  1. Could you link me what you are referring to? I would definitely want to check it out. I know that there WAS a Federal Assault Weapon Ban that expired 4 years ago (The Federal Assault Weapon Ban of 1994 that lasted 10 years and it's renewal was voted down 8-90). You maybe referring to that. As for having a lower dated before 2006, I have yet to hear anything like that. Like I said before, as long as the lower isn't specified on the ban list (like colt lowers) you can build a full AW off it.
  2. I have started to look at different configurations of parts and so far they are about 1/10 of that price. For the lower alone: Stag Arms Lower - Stripped Stag Arms Lower And from there you need a stock, upper, and bullet button. The most expensive part is the upper which would be about 500 to 1000 depending on who you go with. Stocks about 100 and bullet button is about 30 so 10k is a bit much. You could get a barret 50 cal for that IF FREAKING CALI ALLOWED THEM.
  3. I have yet to go to a shop but after reading up on the topic over at calguns.net it looks like you can own an AR-15 even after the AW ban. There are some rules that must be followed precisely but if you have an Lower Reciever that isn't on the ban list you can go ahead and make or buy a complete AR-15. If you don't have a pistol grip on it as well as no "evil features" (folding/collaspable stock, flash suppressor, even gernade launcher, etc.) you can have a full 30rnd mag because it's technically won't be considered an assault weapon (mainly because of the lack of a pistol grip). If you do want a pistol grip and you want to have those evil features you must have a fixed 10 rnd max mag that can only be removed with a tool. Here's a helpful flow chart from that site as well Calgun's.net AW Flow Chart Of course, I don't believe everything I read on the internet, especially when it comes to laws and their interpretations, but these guys seem pretty legitimate and have set me up with a good footing to go ask some good questions at some location shops.
  4. Hey, thanks alot. I'll definitely have a look through the stuff and also check out a local shop. It does look like a lost cause though. I'll have to stick to pistols most likely. Alot more ranges for pistols then rifles down in the part of socal i am in anyways but it does suck getting owned by my lawmakers.
  5. The guy on the right looks pretty familiar. Is it just me or does he look like the kid that worked for Unique Autosport?
  6. x2, i used them in my first system and i liked them
  7. Hey everyone, I am going to graduate from college pretty soon and I thought what better present for myself then an AR-15, the only problem is I am from California and I know there has been a pretty good amount of hatred toward all assault rifles from our great lawmakers as well as a good amount of laws passed to accompany that hatred. I was wondering if I went through with getting one, would there be anything special I would have to do to actually get one post-ban or to make it legal. I have heard somethings about a "bullet button" and 10rnd mags but not sure if that's all you need to know. Thanks
  8. Hello everyone. My name is Mike and I have actually been a member for almost a year now and have cruzed this forum nearly daily for the whole time. As I logged in today, I saw an introduce yourself topic with like 800+ replies and figured it was actually about time to introduce myself. I originally found this site while just looking around at other sites about car audio using google. I have gained alot of inspiration just by being a member of this site, not to mention the knowledge. I basically didn't know anything about audio besides how to hook up home audio stuff through a receiver. I have always been a computer builder/customizer and was looking into things that were more "cool." I know have done 2 systems (one in my explorer and one in a family member's ranger). And I have loved doing them both. Just like to thank all the members and staff (especially steve, of course) for keeping this site up and full of great new tips, techniques and knowledge.
  9. I am down with both. I go to the range at least twice a week and play at a nice little course every 2 weeks. Wouldn't trade my system or golf for one other. Although my clubs/bag always ends up blocking my port...Went with a subs up config just to make sure my bag never pressed up against my subs =)
  10. 71.4 C is the Max Temp (Intel: Q9450) I use Everest to monitor all my temperatures while overclocking and as far as getting that 100% cpu usage on a quad core (or any chip for that matter) I use Prime95. If you have an unstable overclock, you'll find out while running that program. Sorry if you feel I am talking down to you btw, I just don't know how much oc'ing you have done. I just recently got into the oc'ing game and I have found those programs to help a lot. Head over to Overclock.net and check out similar builds. They are pretty cool over there and have some great info. I mostly check out the water cooled setups, people go off on some of their systems. Edit: Changed SuperPi to Prime95...Linked the wrong program originally
  11. Just keep it under the threshold temperature at 100% cpu usage. Idk which quad core that is but I keep my q6600 under 60-65C at full tilt. Say that was the q6600, with that fan i was able to go from 2.4 to 3.0 and keep it under that temp at full tilt.
  12. That's a pretty solid setup. I built a setup similar to that with just one generation older things (built the system about 6 months ago)...Asus Striker Extreme, q6600 and SLI 8800 Ultra's. With your next gen stuff right there, that will be great system. If you really want to take it to another level. Look into water-cooling. I was able to push that q6600 (2.4 ghz) to 3.8ghz. But as far as air cooling goes, that Zalaman will keep that system nice and cool.
  13. Acronis True Image 11 Home http://www.acronis.com/ I use that to back up files on a schedule and to clone any hd's. Really helped when I wanted to upgrade my primary drive to a bigger drive and not have to reinstall windows/all programs.
