  1. Just showed up today. Need a bit of tweaking still (they don't have the stiffer surround on them yet, etc) but at least we have the first looks at them and our new terminal blocks too  * Z v.4 12 on the left and X-12 on the right. * Z v.4 12 on the left and X-12 on the right. * New terminal blocks ! * Z style spider -- these will feature one fewer layer than the Z models. Coil is also lighter on these but overall FS should be right at or slightly below the Z counterparts in stock format. * Essentially looks like a "mini-Z" style motor... 190mm magnet vs. 220mm on the Z series / 66mm tall stack vs. 75mm tall stack / thinner steel / less expensive round wire coil vs. flat wire in the Z, etc, etc.

  2. The 257mm spiders showed up this morning so I assembled the 15" version today. I should be able to test it tomorrow at some point. See photos below : *257mm spider tool

  3. We have an Sd reduction of about 10% on the 12s and 15s -- no SD reduction at all on the 10 (it's slightly over-sized) -- 10% SD is ~0.3dB compared to increasing the displacement limits by enough to equal about 1.5 to 2 dB and also all but eliminating suspension component and glue joint failures, reducing distortion dramatically, etc. It doesn't take a speaker designer to guess which one most folks will prefer; especially in the age of low priced / high power amplifiers. The real truth is that there are almost NO surrounds out there today that can handle truly HIGH excursion beyond the mid to high 30s range reliably -- none of the lauded "high rolls" can do it when one does the math on their rolls. It may take a while for folks to adjust to it but I am willing to bet you'll see many others following suit. So all with good reason

  5. Just wanna say thanks to Steve for going out his way and shipping me an IM-SG. I know its no option on his site for APO but he actually had it hand carried and shipped. Just got it today and the guys at Xtreme Car Audio here in Italy will be super excited to get this thing. I bought it for them as a going away gift for helping me out at all the shows and with my build when I needed help. Thanks Steve and as far as I know this is the first and only one in Italy at the moment.

  6. People need to remember that all the extra throw we're going to get out of these subs is going to more than make up for the reduction in cone size. Also some parts of the surround will still displace some air as well. Let Jacob work his magic. These are beast subs.

  7. Ran some specs on this one too : Re : 3.82 ohms Fs : 25.32 Hz Qes : 0.37 Qms : 5.31 Qts : 0.35 Le : 4.28 mH Vas : 64.03 L BL : 27.56 NA Mms : 466 g Cms : 84 uM/N Sens : 86.19 dB BL^2/RE : 198.68 Box Models : 3 cubes @ 30 Hz ported = F3 of 25 Hz fairly flat 4 cubes @ 35 Hz = F3 of 28 Hz / peak of ~5 dB around tuning 2 cubes sealed = F3 of 50 Hz / Qtc = 0.530 I may try one of these puppies sealed in my ride Of course all subject to final production spec -- but this shouldn't be too far off by the time we use the stock black spider and stiffer surround.

  8. Nice clean build Steve. I've been in IT since 1986. My first PC was a 286 12MHz with 1MB of RAM, 65MB RLL Seagate HDD, 13" amber monochrome monitor and DOS 3.21 and Windows 2.11. People said "What the hell am I going to do with all that power? lol I've built thousands of computers over the years and people keep asking that same question. Still amazes me how good the hardware is these days, quality and performance wise. But it has never been "easy" but it's a real pleasure to build PCs now. As with anything made with care, it takes time to do it right. Chicken is going to get a great system. I dig the blue lights thing too. Classy. I don't see anything I would have done differently. Windows should install pretty fast. Updates kinda suck sometimes. Cheers.

  9. I mean, we all know Chicken likes to spend money, so it was just a suggestion lol

  10. You could do that. But a 690 would be an incredible waste for PhysX lol

  11. thanks for the advice, Captain Late. LOL I had a feeling it had to be mentioned somewhere in the 10 pages, but I thought I'd post anyway just to be safe. its all good. Chicken said "Make it BADDD" and i said "no problem". I aim high, what can i say. I got shot down pretty quick when i realized the quad-SLI situation. No big deal, im all good.

  12. yezzirrrrr i can't wait to try this thing out. My shop is a disaster area now though. You don't realize how many packages you have to open to get all these parts. It looks simple enough but there is a lot more going on then it seems. Especially after i get all the hoses and wires ziptied all nice and neat. I got some blue fluid for the watercooling and some blue LED's for it. I am planning on making him a Chicken Hill logo of some sort for the side window and making it glow. Should be nice, i hope.

  13. Oh if anyone is wondering why i bought 2 mice, its because he likes that dumb ass side-ball type mouse. I hate it. So i got him both, in case someone else plays it they can use a good, normal one (although a gaming mouse)

  14. Level 5s are definitely an option, but has to stick with 9ks since the van runs at 18v.

  18. That's kind of how this place is now. Someone shows what they got, then people say, oh you should have gotten this or trade it for that. :/ I just ignore those people, if everyone did, they would stop. Self-governance is wonderful but I suppose online where there is no identity such a suggestion is heresy. Excellent component choice anyhow my last big PC build had an original XPower in it, loved that board. Yeah you just ignore those people... but imagine you have 10 times the amount of people telling you what you should do like steve would have. Can see how it could get annoying. Easier to just cut it out from the start. Not arrogance. I can imagine which is precisely why I would have worded it differently, personally. Maybe something like "This is not open to suggestions since I have already decided on the components. I know some of you are also experienced in this field and I thank you for looking." I like Steve's work and I have not met him (unfortunately) he seems like a good guy who gets a bad rep in many places online for comments like that with no real ill intention. Again, the PC is top-knotch and I haven't seen that line of power supply from Corsair yet, gonna have to check them out. Ya right. I could post (what you said) and send cookies, milk, and candy to their front door......and someone would STILL get their feelings hurt. I get a bad rap on some sites because those guys are disrespectful internet cowards with big ass internet mouths. I get a bad rep when i don't take their shit on youtube or anywhere else i see it. If someone tells me, "your car is a piece of shit, you should push it off a cliff"......and i say, "ya, maybe with you inside of it" - then they run off and tell all their internet fuck-buddies that i am a dick, when they are the ones who started it. fuck them and fuck anyone who has something bad to say about me. I have never done anything to ANYONE to deserve my "bad rep". If you shoot a rocket at me and i retaliate with a fucking missile, don't blame it on me.
