Got a new amp ts 1.3kw (nothing else has changed) dd1 works fine. I'd send mine in its collecting dust

I've tried Track 1 (40Hz 0db) Track 3 (40Hz -5db) and Track 5 (40Hz -10db). Wow if it won't clip with the 0dB track then it must have a anti-clipping circuit in it or some type of rollback circuit so that it can't be pushed too hard. I personally have not seen or played with one of these amps in person though I know that it is VERY similar to a model in the Hertz lineup and we have heard of people having trouble with that one as well. If the amplifier is not allowed to clip one may consider that an amplifier problem, not a DD-1 problem. The DD-1 is doing what it is supposed to do, alert the user of distortion over 1%. If the amp isn't capable of clipping it not work on the DD-1 or DD-1+. If you want to set it with a voltmeter like someone mentioned, you can do it, but you must use one of the overlap tracks. Simply using a 0dB sine and setting with a voltmeter or scope will result in ZERO gain overlap. As a side note for you number chasers, a 1000 watt amp that is allowed to clip will be significantly louder on the meter than a 1000 watt amp that is not capable of clipping. Based on the information you have presented to me here, and not playing with the amp in person, I'd say this amp has a rollback circuit of some type that doesn't allow for clipping. Definitely not user error. I swap out the JAD1200.1D for my old hifonics amp and follow the same procedure (instructions that came with the dd1) and it works, distortion light shows up. With the JAD the distortion light never lights up. Guess I would have to make a video of it. RCA voltage is 1.8v at max clean volume. I can get it to distort while finding the hu max clean volume through the RCAs just not after I hook into the JAD1200.1D. Alright playing Track 1 off the CD, I get 1.837v directly on the RCAs. Coming out of the speaker outputs 9.93v with gain at minimum LPF at max (320Hz) SSF at lowest (20Hz). Max gain I get around 50v. One thing I did notice though, when I was up closer to max gain the voltage would fluctuate drastically. It really wasn't a solid voltage after I got past 39.9V. It would bounce all over the place. 60v, 40v, heck even up to like 65v playing track 1. Go back to the RCAs and they read 1.837v without fluctuating.

It's an NVX not an alpine but it may be the same board I guess. It's a mono block. It only has one channel. Two inputs but one channel.

I don't have any problems with heat.

well currently I have my gain set by a dmm to 34.64v. That voltage should be 1200watts @ 1ohm

Any chance he could do a video on the newest version being as though NVX informed both the OP and me that the internals have been changed?

Have the SSF at 20hz which is all the way down and the LPF set to 320 I believe or whatever the maximum frequency is. I get the Signal light and the 40hz light.

The OP talked to nvx he said. The amp won't work with the dd1 due to some new chips in them I guess. Ive seen a few different people complain about the dd1 not working but none with a video to prove no user error. Ive seen numerous vids of the dd1 used with multiple amps with no problems. Just because someone says they did it all right doesnt mean they did and it also doesnt mean they possibly overlooked something. Without being there in person a vid is the only way to see. I dont see how a single chip in the amp could affect how the dd1 works but maybe it does idk. Maybe I will post a video showing no user error but think about this, this isn't the first amp that I have used the dd-1 on to set the gain and it worked just fine. BRX2400, SAZ 1500D, Hifonics x1900d just to name a few. All work fine. Even when I put my buddies BRX2400 in my car and take out the JAD1200 the dd-1 works just like it suppose to. The only variable that changes is the amp. Something with this amp makes it not work with the DD-1.

This is directly from an email from NVX: The SMD-DD1 or the AMP DYNO have issues with some class d amplifiers. I have tested this and seen amps from JL, Kicker, and Alpine. This has something to do with the chip set on the amps. You can still accurately set the gain with out a DD1 or dyno. You can do it by ear. 1. Get a 50hz test tone. Youtube works. Get that to play through your system not using Bluetooth. Aux in , CD ,.USB drive are all fine. 2. Find the maximum volume on your head unit with out distortion. On my Pioneer deck the max is 33 out of 40. With the volume down, play the 50hz test tone. Slowly raise the volume on the head unit until you find a distortion. From there, back it down. Get that number and remember it. That is the maximum volume for your head unit. Anything above that will be distorted. The volume should never go past that. 3. Set the JAD12001 to minimum gain, SUB SONIC to 20Hz, and the LPF to anything above 50hz. This will allow the 50Hz to get to the amp. 4. Turn on the 50hz tone and set the head unit to the maximum volume with out distortion. 5. With the 50hz tone playing slowly adjust the gain on the jad12001 until you hear distortion. Once the signal is distorted, back down the level until the sound is not distorted. Now your gain is set to match the output of your head unit. The bass knob can now be used to mix the bass as desired for each song if needed. You can do it with an oscilloscope as well. 1. Set the volume on the deck as described above using the 50hz test tone. 2. Connect the scope the the speaker load. 3. With the 50hz tone playing slowly adjust the gain on the jad12001 until you see a clipped signal on the scope. It will be a square wave. An un- distorted signal will have a smooth sine wave. Once you see the distortion, back down the gain until the sine wave is smooth. I have tried this same result. Explain how taking out my 2v preout hu and putting in a 4v preout hu that reads over 4v on a dmm how I wouldn't be getting 4 volts? lol. The RCAs come out the back of the HU and go into the amplifier. I also would like to put out there that I have used this DD1 to set the gain on many amps. Worked just fine. This is the only amp that acts like this I've seen. Since you asked. Just because you have a head unit rated for four volt on the pre outs doesn't mean It will actually have that. Some only do it with the sub out turned up all the way. Others don't. Some don't ever make four volt either. Some split the the pre out rating between all the channels. Some only make it on the sub out too. Hence the so many variables. But I didn't realize I was dealing with an expert and all. I guess it should have been obvious Seems that I upset you. I never said I was an expert but okay. I guess I should've added that the voltage on the rcas are actually 4v according to the dmm. Wasn't trying to give you a hard time was actually asking a legitimate question to see if I was doing something wrong.
