I listen to Dj russticals and he records a -6.5db. Should I set my sub gains with a -5, -7.5, or -10db track?
-
Also gonna add that the subs are new and I’ve never really pushed them hard. They were on a 3k before and I played them very conservatively and never had that sweet smell until I threw my 5k on em. To be honest the smell is actually really pleasant. I’m thinking I may not be burning the coil up but glue maybe I hope it’s the glue

Noobie strikes again ok so guys I have my bass stage all set but I ran out of terminals on my bussbars for my multichannel amp. Y’all think I could just attach the 4 gauge lugs I’ll be using for my multichannel to the small bolts? (Picture below for reference) dying to get my doors done! I can’t hear a thing really besides bass because the subs are so loud! I set my gains with a 40hz -5dB test tone and headunit clips at 62 out of 61 so I never go above 61. Used a DD1 to do this. I also purely play Dj russticals rebassed songs which are record at -6.5dbs (correct me if I’m wrong). When I go full tilt for a few songs I get this really sweet smell from the port of my box. Is this excess glue burning because the subs are new or coil? I play them at a low volume to cool them off and they cool off relatively quickly. Dust cap does get quite warm but not painful to touch by any means. Hope I don’t blow em but if I do it’ll be a good learning experience that will come at a price tho lol. I’ll also add my voltage is solid. I stay at 14 and drop to 13.2 if I’m really pushing the subs hard

Hey guys I have stunk up my x15s twice now. It was that sweet smell you get when a voice coil gets too hot. Scared the sh*t out of me when it happened. Going to reset my gains tomorrow and NO MORE MUSI APP. I will be downloading the Dj rusticals app and running all my music through usb connection. My question for you guys is tho have I caused permanent damage to my voice coils? After both times I stunk them up I felt the dustcaps and they were warm. Not hot enough to burn my hand but I could lay my hand on them and definitely feel the heat. I’ve tested the cones of both my subs and did not hear any crackling of the voice coil or stiffness. Subs are not blown but did take some clipping for sure. Makes me nervous because recones are not cheap for these subs and I don’t want to see them go up in smoke

You were able to fit a second alternator? My voltage sits at 14.3 and drops to 13.2 at the lowest and that’s full tilt. Recovers quickly too. You think that’s pretty solid electrical? 1 run of 1/0 welding wire from dc power 270a alternator to two down4sound lto 6.0s with one 1/0 welding ground to chassis of car (like literally underneath the car into the frame of the car). Thinking about grounding my 5k to my car frame as well instead of the d4s battery negative. I have my engine block grounded but I think I might ground my alternator straight to the car frame as well

25hz will be nice for those subs. Are you getting the v2 or v3 18s? If you’re getting the v2s I’d put a 5k on them. I put a 3k on my two 15s and it was ok but they can handle the 5k nicely if tuned right and voltage is good. Definitely go lithium! So much smaller and lighter. Recharge rate is much higher too and output is great. Just comes at a price tho

You’ll love the x’s. They are very well built and can take a lot of abuse. Make sure your electrical is up to par and you tune everything right and those x18s will kick your ass. As for amp you’ll def want to give them at least over 1000watts their rated power because they can take it. Also box is designed by houstonaudiolabs. Check him out, he does a fantastic job!

Appreciate the reply. Just got back from slamology and it absolutely blew my mind! Learned a lot and met JP, Jacob Fuller, and Jacob viral too even!! Got a ton of demos and opened my eyes to what’s out there. I also realized I was worried to push my subs hard and I got in today and it does get down after seeing how hard guys were pushing their subs there (burn your hand when touching the magnet type of hot) I was pleasantly surprised how loud my system is!! I’m happy with it! Need to get my voltmeter installed still and mids/highs but it moves some air at 30hz (box tuning is at 30) Not like hair trick crazy but a nice amount of wind. My amps are grounded to battery which is grounded to frame. Do you think they need another ground? My amp has two negative inputs so should I ground both those straight to frame instead of battery? My port is about 6ish inches away from trunk hatch and my port is 5 1/4” wide. Do you think that is a big deal or no? My box is already bolted down so I’d prefer not to have to move it but it sounds good! Can’t wait to louden up my vocals here soon. Really all came down to me being scared to hurt my subs. I was playing them to where I was comfortable and it just sort of got them warm but I don’t think I’m pushing them like I should. You are correct, that smart 5k puts out some serious power and once I turned my hu up to max volume where dd1 said it doesn’t clip that 5k was nice and loud

My system still isn’t what I want it to be:( installed a smart bass Taramps 5k with two d4s lto 6.0s. I have a single run of 1/0 welding wiring going from alternator to positive on lithium bank then I have a 1/0 ground going to frame of car. Big 3 is done with 1/0 welding wire as well. 270amp HO dc power alt installed as well. I have yet to install a volt meter although I do have one. Subs are wired to .5ohms and honestly I’m not that impressed. It’s a decent bit louder than the 3k I had powering both subs but I really thought it would blow my mind. I also seem to have voltage drop issues because I clip at idle after going full tilt for a few minutes. I’m really frustrated and want to give up and walk away from it all. I had high hopes for this system and hoped to enjoy it for years until it’s time to upgrade and rebuild. Here is my setup and my ground. Let me know what you guys think. I want to get this right

I used -10db after finding where my headunit clips at with the max level on the source level adjustment and I couldn’t get enough voltage with the -10db tone to get the distortion light to go off! -

Not all the time but I can set it now because the light will actually light up on the dd1. With sub level at 6 on HU I get distortion light at 34/40 volume. So I left it at 33 and the distortion light disappeared. Then I set my gain on my sub amp until distortion light came on and backed off until it disappeared. Just feel like I’m missing output. I don’t know. This is frustrating. Also my electrical is: dc power high output 270 amp alternator, big 3, and single 0 gauge run to the trunk where I have a 90ah agm battery. -
Need small size/footprint amp recommendations in the 1,000 to 1,200 rms

All good lol. I did set my sub level to its max but now after all is set I’m getting distortion -

I adjusted the sub level all the way up and it worked! Finally have everything set right. You are wrong about the ground. It does say in the manual you connect black to negative speaker terminal -

I did read about the blinking distortion light. It says in the troubleshooting section you are supposed to aim for the distortion light to stay on constantly then you go down slightly from there until it disappears. My issue was my head unit not putting out enough voltage. I had to raise my sub level from 0 to 6 on my headunit in order for that distortion light to stay lit. It worked. Finally got my gain set right and hu max volume figured out. Next step is lithium and my 5k amp is going in -

I’ll have to try with my sub level on plus one dB. I’ll let you know how it goes! Yeah it’s been a great lil tool so far. Also if you remember I’m the 4Runner with two x15s guy that asks too many questions on here! Just got my new ho alternator in and one 90ah agm to power one smart 3k and I’m already thinking about returning the agm and going with lithium! I think a battery delete will be super easy. Just need to check my vehicles charging voltage but I am thinking of running two Down4Sound lto 6.0 -

Well that was my issue! I couldn’t get it to stay a solid red
