  1. Awesome Jake. I'm so proud of you guys for how far you've come. I still plan on coming by soon to show you the new car and I am on the second setup already.
  2. Mechman is the only way to go. I've dealt with all the big alt companies and they are ahead of them all in product and customer service.
  3. how many cubes are you running, and what tuning are you at? I'm at 6.5 after woofer and port displacement. The box is tuned to 35hz and peaks at 42-44ish on an SPL tone. Best numbers I've seen to date is a 155.8 at 43 hz on the dash sealed. If I had to guess dropping two woofers and two amps I could still do 152's. So you should definitely be able to get loud, just be careful.
  4. I run 4 sa12s on 2 saz3500d's with each amp seeing a half ohm. I have the gains set conservatively and don't abuse them. I have never burnt the coils at all, but over time I did rip the suspension from more than a years worth of use. You will be fine if your smart about it.
  5. While I will help you I am too lazy to figure dimensions out for you, so your on your own there. I have a shit ton of experience running those stubs (check SIG) so I can give you my opinion. If the amp that you are using does a solid 800 watts RMS this is what I would suggest. A box with 1.5-1.75 cubes after port and woofer displacement. Next the woofer should fire either straight up or to the rear of the car. I suggest placing the port on the side of the box firing into the drivers side wheel well. Also I would reccomend using 1 4" aero port cut to the length of the tuning frequency you want. A single custom made 5" aero port would be perfect but they are a lot of work to make. If done correctly this setup will easily do 140's. I have built this exact box in Civic sedan, which is similar in size to the Focus, and done a 147.6 with a clamped 1345 watts. The setup I'm referring to was woofer firing back and port to the driver side with a 5" custom made port. I made the box tuned to 40hz and it peaked in the car at 48hz. It also would play low down to 35hz without any issues.
  6. funny, 1 18, no wall, 150+ how many people can claim that I can claim it with a 15, less power, and 2 db louder Score was a 152.6 and all Sundown equiptment. Sorry for not posting DC scores but you asked how many people could claim that. Got you beat too Alpine
  7. Without dimensions I would try 3 cubes after displacements with a single 6" port like you suggested. I would fire the sub back and put the port on the drivers side of the box side firing into the trunk wall. I built a similar box except for a Nightshade 15 and used an 8" aero and did a 152.6 but in a hatch. I'm sure you would still have decent results in a trunk. However I did use around 4k watts. Use the box calculator to figure out the dimensions. I can't do it on the tablet I'm using. It is a pain in the ass.
  8. A Focus Zx3 would work if you ditched the back seats. You could do 6 15s all day long in one.
  9. I would but I somehow managed to cram three of them in my spare tire well and the box sits on top of them. Are you planning on doing any reinforcements due to all the weight?
  10. Electrical Engineering, at ECPI University. I'm currently a sophmore. Love it and don't want to stop.
  11. Numbers, just cause I have the same car My Zx3 has something that can't be described as flex. I can't keep tail lights and brake lights in the damn car because the bass breaks the bitches.
  12. Im from very close to Sandusky but now live in NC. I also have close to a 156 @ 42hz that Im sure would be loud enough for you to hear. Next time I go home I can let you hear it.
  13. that what i was thinkin just buy the basket soft part and use the magnet i have and put it on the new one.......but that 600 bucks.... where i could just buy some foam since the rest of it is perfectly fine If you want to try to replace the surround yourself give Jake at Sundown a call. He would more than likely sell you some surrounds to use. However, it's not going to sound the same as before due to the difference in the cone's mass, but should work. It's just not the best route to take. If he doesn't have surrounds that will work like someone else already said try PSI. I know he does recones on those woofers so he should have surrounds.
  14. i need to refraze myself i need a RE-FOAM!! not a re-cone my foam is all fucked up and cracked and i can find any who has a big enough refoam for these be sides the W7 yettttt idk if that weird surround could work out with my sub Your pretty much fucked. You won't be able to repair the surround and have it last like it would if you just reconed the woofers. I know it's probably not what you wanted to hear but that is going to be the best possible route for long term use.
  15. Jake's got a boyfriend J/k, but I do need to stop by and see you guys again. It's been too long.
  16. 1.6 cubes per sub tuned to 36hz in my car = 155+ db. Your box is 100% cool and should be just fine. If I were to make one suggestion it would be to swap out for aeroports 3 4" ports would be perfect and fucking loud.
  17. Thanks The US is not everything. That's the kind of attitude that will get you flamed to death here. Probably not a good idea to make comments like that on a US based board where most of us will light your ass up for doing so.
  18. Do you have a link to his new setup at all? My mechanic is the one responsible for the pcm bypass. How the hell he did it, I don't know. This is why I pay him to do it and not me.
  19. I believe that your refering to Tim, from Sac Town. We've actually talked some and I've actually given him advice. He was in a video that Meade made using his distortion detector to tune his Soundstream 10K. He was running a single 18 at the time and iirc he was right around the mid 150-151 mark.
  20. Yes...challenge accepted. Hopefully my recones will be together this by this weekend, and we can get my zx3 bumpin. I've got two 18" Fi BTLs on 4 AQ2200's. So, we might can compete...lol That should be loud, but 18's are too big to put up great numbers in the car with the entire install in the hatch. There is just no way at all to get an optimum enclosure to fit without blocking off airflow which significantly reduces spl. I've been working on spl in my ZX3 for 5 years now and have tried every type of box and sub configuration that would fit in the hatch, and the best I've come up with so far is the 4 12" setup that I have now. If you're looking for numbers only and not a daily setup you'd be better off running just one of those 18's and strapping all 4 amps to it. I've personally done a 152.6 on the dash sealed with a single 15" and 3800 watts clamped. I welcome all to challenge what I've said here, and believe me it's not going to be easy. I will gladly bow down to the ZX3 owner that puts up a louder score than a 155.7 on the dash with the car sealed, and the entire install in the hatch of the car. If you've got an install that goes beyond the hatch then we're not talking the same thing here. By limiting the enclosure to the very small defined space that's available in this car it makes louder numbers than what I've already done very very hard. I have done my research across the forums and searched for other loud ZX3's and the closest that I've seen is high 152's. I wouldn't make such a bold statement if I didn't believe it to be true. Sorry for the off-topic curveball here. If there is really interest in this becoming a topic on it's own as kind of a challenge to all ZX3 owners with the loudest sealed hatch install then a thread can be made to further discuss the details.
  21. The 12's are SA's dual 2 ohms, so each amp is seeing a .5 ohm load. After impedence rise the amps are putting out 3400 or so watts, with the addition of the 100.4 I'm going to say a solid 7K watts is what the alt is supporting. However, you have to remember that I have 3 D3100's and a D3400 under the hood.
  22. i accept your challange sir lol. jk mine isnt that loud yet. Also the entire setup is in the hatch Game on sir!
  23. A little more info for everyone asking. The alt is internally regulated. Since I dropped the alt in the car I've added a D3400 under the hood. At about 3/4 volume driving down the road voltage drop is .2-.4 volts max. When I hit full volume I will see a drop from 14.2 down to 12.9, so only 1.3 volts of drop. I have 3 runs from front to rear, but one run is out of service right now due to a blown fuse. Then there are 3 D3100's in the spare tire well. The pcm is bypassed and the battery light comes on as a result, but doesn't matter to me. I still have the Iraggi sitting in a box and needs to be rebuilt. I mainly went with Mechman on this one because of their reliability. Lastly the box is about as big as it looks in the picture. I can cruise around at 153db with almost no voltage drop. Also since I added the alt to the car the spl has jumped from a 155.2 up to a 155.7 at 43hz sealed on the dash, which means we're looking at mid 157's in the passenger side kick. Any of you guys that own a ZX3 know how fucking loud that is in this car. I'm confident that it's the loudest unwalled ZX3 on the planet.
  24. Honestly as much as I love Sundown that is not a good choice for what you want to do. Go with a 5 channel and do it right. Rockford makes a beast amp that will do the job. Or you could just deal with two amps from Sundown if you can get away with it.
  25. Item was as described, and shipped very fast. Thank you.
