  1. bike stolen in ...... :(

Good project and good on you for doing it steve. Maybe a "stealth" system might be a better idea next time though? Could build a helmet with speakers and a sub on it (i'm already doing that actually lol, using 4 aura 3" drivers and digging around for the sub yet) or... I dunno.

  2. I had a similar situation with a buddy of mine. He went and strapped his amps and said he didnt believe in the dd-1. well summer goes by and he blew his very expensive subs, so i said lets check your gain with the dd-1. well as it turned out his amps had an issue when strapped that caused distortion 100% of the time even with the HU off and amps on.

If he would have let me set his gains we would have found the issue before he lost $1200 in subs lol

Guys, distortion isnt clipping. Its just a difference in the audio signal to what was intended. Distortion could blow your stuff if it flattened out the sine wave to square blocks or something, but its not very likely..

  3. You know what the worst part is? If you took that head unit back to the place you bought it, explained the situation, they wouldn't even consider replacing it.

They'd say that's not possible for you to detect that, or they stick it on their O-scope and see nothing (if they even have one). Just try to convince them that the DD-1 was made by some of the top guys in the industry, but they won't give a shit.

And then you'd be out $1300 on that brand new head unit.

Thats when you call them noobs for using an o-scope to detect distortion. You use a distortion meter to detect distortion.

  4. Hey man you should paint the intercooler black. It really helps out for heat dissipation. Check out this vid

It's by Mighy Car Mods. I've been watching them for years now.

That was due to emissivity, not dissipation. His intercooler is mounted out in the open which means it would increase heatload from sunlight.

    edit

Should have read page 2 before trying to nuke you I guess.

    EDIT 2

Steve, maybe put a sock over the filter to reduce dust/sand building up in the element?

  5. Exactly, you need to excite the largest volume of air you can to "get" the bass. Its why horns and t-lines work great in huge areas, they are the most effective vs standard ported enclosures for "exciting" the air volume in front of the enclosure. Port directionality could be used to reinforce the bass as well (fire ports towards floor/footwells so output reflects back upwards to riders).

You could put a door on the t-line so you can put stuff in it still lol :)

Or just try building a t-line that fits in the space you have available but still loading it with both drivers. It really just means you have more electromotive force and diaphragm area to utilize the available output vs what a single driver would give you in that same t-line. They are surprisingly flexible..
