  1. From XS power Could you explain “amp hours”? People often wonder what the term “amp hours” means when referring to batteries. Many people assume that “AH” (amp hours abbreviated) is a standardized rating for a battery’s ability to discharge current; a true statement. The actual method for de terming the AH rating is more often times not fully understood by the automotive enthusiast. AH capacity is measured in hours. AH is most commonly used to rate deep-cycle type batteries, or any type of battery used for relatively low discharge rates across an extended period of time. Most batteries, including XS Power batteries, are tested in a 20 hour cycle. AH tests can be performed for 10 hour cycles at a higher amp load, but results are not as useful for determining long term capacity. An AH test can easily be conducted by the end user, which is why we at XS Power are so adamant about strict honesty regarding all of our battery ratings. To conduct your own AH test, simply calculate 5% of the AH capacity, and use that number as the amp load. Make sure the battery maintains the standardized 25°C temperature for the duration of the test. The idea is that the battery needs to maintain that load for 20 hours without falling below 10.5 volts. Please note that 16 Volt batteries would be tested to 14 Volts. Here is an example for a 30 AH 12 Volt battery: 5% of 30 (amp hours) = 1.5 amps. A 30 amp hour battery should be able to maintain a 1.5 amp draw for 20 hours at 25°C without falling below 10.5 volts. When a manufacturer is initially determining AH, the calculation is done in reverse. The amp draw is multiplied by the test cycle length in hours as evidenced by the example below. 1.5 amps x 20 hours test = 30 AH The AH rating is most useful for determining how well a deep cycle battery can maintain a relatively low amp load across an extended period of several hours, as the example above illustrates. This information is especially important to customers who plan to use XS Power batteries in Recreational Vehicles (RVs), boats, show vehicles, or any other application vehicle that will need to sustain a low draw for extended periods without being charged.
  2. See my post above, but if you aren't dropping when you are charging at 13.8 ecu controlled, then you probably won't drop at 14.4 if you alt can supply the current demand at 14.4 Volts. So you might just have to set it at 14.4 volts, it is hard to say exactly where it should be, there is some unknowns, like size of cable, how far apart are the batteries, big 3 done, what brand of cable, how far are the batts from the amp, do you have strong grounds? All that changes voltage....LOL
  3. Bring it up to 14.7 - 14.8 and see what your drop is?
  4. Bottom line constant high charging past 15 volts is not good ever on a 12 volt agm. People will say oh I do it, but there is alot of variables to consider that are not the same as your setup. Temperature makes a huge difference in what you can charge batteries at just to name one. It is your choice, but I wouldn't do it until you understand it more and realize what is going on with the battery when the voltage gets that high.
  5. Are you trying to get your voltage up for daily or burps? Cuz just running it at 14.9 is better then 15.0, because it is the voltage per cell. You have to remember you have 6 cells in most AGM batteries.
  6. Yeah, me and XS just figured, well it happens, sent it back and hopefully it was just a bad battery, which is my thoughts.
  7. Are your agm's spiral cell batts like the optima's or sealed flooded like XS power/kinetik?
  8. They where trained, charged at 14.9 for three weeks, then drained to 12.5 and recharged again.
  9. How many amps your amp pull full tilt and what your alt put out full tilt? Amps wise.
  10. I bulged my d3400 from just charging at 14.7 constant for 4 hours. So it happens with less voltage if the heat is right.
  11. Since you asked about these two different people, if they are charging that high once they are in hot float mode of the alts, then they are overcharging if they are running that high, and emit gas from the batts. It is chemistry there is no way around it.
  12. Read this AGM battery so you don't have to take my word for it. If you are dropping voltage, since you asked, you don't have the current from the alt to supply the demand, upgrade your alt. If you need more info I would be glad to help. Not trying to come off as a dick if I did, just trying to help and save you headaches that I have already experienced several times over.
  13. If you OVERCHARGE, which running at 15 volts constant is overcharging, that will emit gas. WOW!!!!
  14. Perhaps you should do a little research then because you are wrong. Here I will help you out, this is one of Optima's disclaimers all there batts are AGM's, XS power has a similar disclaimer but I can't find it anywhere Always use a voltage regulated battery charger with limits set to the above ratings. Overcharging can cause the safety valves to open and battery gases to escape, causing premature end of life. These gases are flammable! You cannot replace water in sealed batteries that have been overcharged. Any battery that becomes very hot while charging should be disconnected immediately. You can also run into the battery expanding or bulging out due to excessive overcharging due to the extreme heat that is created from prolonged overcharging.
  15. So you guys that charge these at 15+ volts for several hours like turning you d3100 into a d3400 or smaller, because you are aware you are forcing the gas out of the battery. Have fun replacing batteries every couple of years.
  16. What do you have your bass boost set to? I believe that is driving you to clip faster, and if the light is blinking it is just a "soft" clip, only once it is solid it is actually clipping. I have the bass boost on my 3500d.1's set to zero, you don't need bass boost ever!!!! LOL
  17. This is the only audio forum that I am on really, only cuz I know a few fellas on this forum. The build log is on gmfullsize.com under the audio section and then also on arspl forum, which is the local state comp forum.
  18. Thanks, I would like to do a build log here, I have one on another forum. It won't allow me to link pictures to this forum from my website since my pictures don't have jpg or jpeg in the address, some feature with this forum I guess so it means I would have to host all my pictures on a different server, which there is over 100 for this build.
  19. It sounds awesome on music, it is tuned to 37 hz for music and pounds!!!! Here it is demoing at another show, that is Tony(fritosaregood) getting hairtrick'd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNbSBezm3J4&playnext=1&videos=nKElK_n8j_8&feature=mfu_in_order
  20. First score, sealed up on the dash, second score and watch Cody's face that is outlaw style. This show was October 3rd. Enjoy
