  1. Harrison Labs has been around since 1979 and even touts creating the first automotive power amplifier back in 1974 under their previous name Audiokintecs Corp. Who knew they made an amplifier rated to deliver 20,000 watts back in 2000? I had never heard of this unicorn amp, but my friend Jason had one to show off during my recent visit to Texas. I posted a photo on Instagram and Facebook and got a ton of feedback from my audience saying they wanted to see more. Well, check out this amazingly rare, one of 5 amplifier, in this video. Can't wait until you see what's inside... Watch on YouTube in 4K UHD quality or embedded below:
  2. Today we take a look at the smallest amp in Taramps "Bass" series, the Bass 400. This mini amp is rated to deliver 214W at 4 ohms and up to 400W at 2 ohms at 13.8 volts. As usual, we don't always believe what manufacturers say about amplifier ratings, so we test them ourselves! Let's fire up the SMD Amp Dyno and see how this little "bass" amp performs. I'll also show the internals and some subwoofer action...check it out! Note: this video is NOT sponsored by Taramps. I bought this amp from Amazon so all of the opinions are mine. I will ALWAYS let my viewers know if a video is sponsored and this one is not.
  3. I would contact Ampere or one of the techs on FB. Can't believe they didn't put it in the manual, that's crazy!
  4. Today we are going to try out an inexpensive powered subwoofer for your car from Walmart...the Dual TBX10A. When I bought this unit a few months ago, it was only $50, now bumped up to $80. This sub offers a 10" driver in a compact, truck style enclosure, along with a 100W RMS power amplifier. Seems like a lot for $80, but it is any good? Let's take a closer look at what makes this subwoofer work and find out how much power the amplifier puts out. Make sure to watch the video all the way to the end so you can see my scooter fail from years past. Watch on YouTube in 4K UHD video quality or embedded below:
  5. Today we'll test out the Quantum Audio QAZ4000D. I recently came across this amp selling for $119 on eBay as a refurbished amp. Ratings suggested 4000 watts at 1 ohm, however with 120A of fusing, it is easy to expect these ratings are inflated. I decided to pick it up anyway so we all can see how the amp performs. Are you ready? 6. C'mon Feel the Noize! Today we look at the Boss Riot 1100m, which has been the best selling car audio amplifier for 2019. The amp was $49.99 when I purchased it, now $54.99 shipped via Amazon. The amp promises 1100 watts "Max" and comes with a remote bass knob, uses Class A/B technology and is a monoblock design. The included 30A fuse warns us of the limited power output, but again, 50 bucks...how can you complain? Let's take a closer look at this cheapo amp and see how it performs not only on the Amp Dyno, but also powering a 6.5" subwoofer. 7. #AmpDyno #Jensen #OldSchool As many of you know, I'm a big fan of the oddball amps including Flea Market, cheap and wacky looking designs. I recently came across this purple and pink Jensen JXP460 from 2002 and knew I had to pick it up to show off and try it on the Amp Dyno. This amp is a two-channel model rated to deliver 85x2 at 4 ohms, 115x2 at 2 ohms or 230 watts bridged at 4 ohms. Let's find out how it performs! 8. Time to test some tiny amps! I recently found a good deal on an NVX MVPA1 micro monoblock amplifier and decided it would be fun to test this amp as well as it's replacement, the VADM1. Both amps are almost small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and offer between 300-500 watts of output, depending on the model. NVX stepped up to a cast aluminum heatsink on the new VADM1 amp and although it's slightly longer than the MVPA1, it is still small enough to fit almost anywhere. Today we will test both amps head to head...which one is more powerful? Stay tuned to find out! Watch the video on YouTube in 4K UHD quality or embedded below:
  9. Back when cheating was a good thing? Yeah, in the 90's, some organizations used 4 ohm stereo wattage to divide competition classes. How could you "cheat" the system? Get an amp rated for high current, low impedance operation. Today I'm going to discuss the Old School SPL challenge and the details. I'll also show a couple of (lame) SPL runs with a Lanzar 50c (50 watt) and Crossfire CFA-30HC (60 watt). This is all for fun, but feel free to join in by taking some of those old school amps off the wall and joining in on the fun! 10. Back when cheating was a good thing? Yeah, in the 90's, some organizations used 4 ohm stereo wattage to divide competition classes. How could you "cheat" the system? Get an amp rated for high current, low impedance operation. Two shown today are the Lanzar OptiDrive 50c and Crossfire CFA-30HC. Both amps are from approx 1998 and are some of the most powerful sub "100 watt" amps ever made. Let's find out which one is king! 11. I go crazy finding mint flea market junk. Easy to find old, expensive amps in mint condition, but usually amps like this are beat up. I've got some strange obsession with them, not sure why honestly
  12. Today we look at the Kingwood RK-904 "1000 watt" amplifier I recently found. This is a cheap, Flea Market car audio amplifier designed to rip off the unknowing consumer. Sure, it looks like a Rockford Fosgate amp, but what's inside this beast? Let's take a closer look at the amp and try it on the SMD AD-1 Amplifier Dyno! 13. In a quest to find a powerful amp under $75 for the $150 SPL challenge, I came across this amp which seemed too good to be true. I've never heard of DTI, but this amp promises 2500 watts at 1 ohm, 14.4 volts at 2% THD. If true, it would be the best watt per dollar amp I've ever tested...but, is it true? Heck, even at 1/2 of rated power it would still be a supremely good deal. Let's take a closer look at the amp and try it on the Amp Dyno. Is it the deal of the century or just a bad joke? 14. Today we check out a 1997 Thump THA-2000 amplifier I picked up for cheap off eBay. I'll unbox, clean up, test the amp, try it on a subwoofer and more. This amp is a direct knockoff of the Phoenix Gold M series amps from the same time period, but does it perform as well? We'll find out and also check out the internals to see what makes it tick. 15. It's about time to show an update with the Savard HiQ 8 v2 DVC subwoofers. This sub offers dual 2 ohm 2.5" coils and 500 watts of RMS power handling. It appears to be a mini monster, but how does it sound? Let's take a closer look at the custom, slot ported box and try out these subs with some real power. I'll show SPL test as well as some flex with music. These subs are getting down! Watch in 4K UHD on YouTube or embedded below:
  16. Soundstream introduced a new line of amplifiers for 2019 called the "Bass Extreme" series. There are four monoblocks and one four channel in the lineup. They all include a built-in bass processor and seemingly lots of power for the money. The one we are testing today is the top of the line model, the BXA1-10000D, claimed as 10,000 watts MAX. We all know there's no way you are getting 10kW for $200. The Soundstream website provides "RMS" numbers of 1400, 2100 and 3300 watts at 4, 2 and 1 ohm respectively. Let's take a closer look at this "10kW" amp and see how it performs. Make sure you keep watching all the way until the end of the video as I also test a Bass Rockers BR2000.1D amp Watch on YouTube in 4K UHD or embedded below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EdxB53zuqQ
  17. The annual Spring OSS Meet was held on May 18th in Wake Forest, NC. This video covers some of the day and also 3 demos from OSS members including fellow YouTube Star EXOcontralto! 18. This is not your father's Blaupunkt....only the name remains. We tested the "1500 watt" monoblock a while back and had lots of requests to try out the two and four channel models. I'm not sure why, honestly as these amps are horribly overrated and cheaply made. Oh well, enough talking, let's see how (bad) these amps perform... Tested are Blaupunkt 2-channel AMP7502 and 4-channel AMP1504 Watch on YouTube in 4K UHD:
  19. Thanks to Skip01 from EveryDay Audios for the tip about this Brand X amp for the $150 SPL challenge. It was available for a period of time as a refurb for $74.99 and I figured I'd pick it up to see how it would perform. First we'll take a closer look at the amp, then we'll try it on the Amp Dyno, finally put it on the (4) Blaupunkt 12's and see how it performs... Amp is Brand X XXL609x2HE and sells for $99 brand new. Amazing value, although overrated... Watch on YouTube in 4K UHD or embedded below:
  20. So right off the bat, I'll admit...I'm not an SPL junkie. I'm just a guy who loves audio and enjoys the idea of a challenge. I also thought it would be cool to share the idea of this challenge so other people could join in. TFade has been hosting the $150 SPL Challenge for many years and this is my first entry. Unfortunately, my vehicle is a Toyota Sequoia, not a CRX, so no way I'm getting 150''s here...but who cares, it will still be fun! Any tips or tricks, let me know. Also, join in if you can. See the rules for the Challenge here: https://12voltmag.com/2019-150-spl-challenge/
  21. I wouldn't say garbage, I've been hammering on it for the past 2 weeks and it's done well. Just wish they would've rated it 600/1000/1500 then it would be an easy recommendation
  22. My friend HiFiVega let me in on this DS18 amp on eBay that was being sold by Sky High Car Audio as a refurb. It was $119 one day, then dropped to $99 the next...shipped! I was confused as all get out with the ratings and what the amp was actually supposed to do. There's a big "7000 watts" number on the amp itself and the specs online said 750/1500/2000 RMS at 4/2/1 ohm...so for $99 I thought it would be a no-brainer. Not to mention you guys would be able to see it tested. Well, I bought it and put it through the paces, let's see how it did. Watch on YouTube in 4K UHD quality or embedded below:
