  1. I sat down at my computer desk here and brought up the forums and was just minding my own business then a strange thing happened. Let me give you just a bit more info before i continue. You see i have allergies, and sometimes i get a bit of mucus, gross i know, but it's life. Anyway, i hocked up this wad of phlegm and i needed to spit it out. I just put in a 12hr shift at work and had finished dinner and just didn't feel like walking all the way to the kitchen. So here is a 1/4 full cup of coffee sitting here, i figured it was mine from the night before and so i just spat in it. Well, my wife walks in a few minutes later, and picks up the cup and... Well, I forgot all about what i had done, but the look on her face reminded me real quick. She asks me, "is this my cup?" to which i quickly replied, "nah, that's not yours, That's an old one." Now should i fess up and tell her what happened or just leave it be, cause man it's kinda buggin my conscience a bit.
  2. I don't know if you can say there is a "right" way to do it, but there are lots of wrong ways to do it. Like others have said, make sure the surround isnt going to touch the baffle. And make sure the sub isn't so heavy that it may pull away from the baffle. So take that into consideration. And just like mounting normally get a good seal between the baffle and sub face.
  3. lol, the stuff is so soft, unless you have a counter sink bit it can get ugly. I used to just jigsaw my boards and then slam screws in it and silicone the hell out of everything and not even paint. Ever notiice how the baffle will lift off the board behind it unless you have it glued already or pre-drill? good times, good times...
  4. sounds about right, be careful counter sinking your screws, you know how mdf is..
  5. are you gonna counter sink your screws and fill the hole with wood filler? Or just spray and pray?
  6. Primer wait 2-5 minutes between coats, medium coats and get good coverage,. Paint depends on what the can says but about the same. just keep adding coats till you get good coverage. this is why you want to get the primer right. i like rustoleum texture paint but if you just want black get good black, not cheap stuff. it took two cans off primer and 3 cans of paint for my 34x15x13 box.
  7. This has been brought up a few times before. And there are different opinions on the matter. It seems one popular opinion is to set the head unit with the 0db so you will not ever clip unless the source music is clipped, then set the amps with the -5db. To compensate for for "music". But no matter what you do, you are just going to have to either check every single song for clipping before you play it on your system, or learn to hear clipping when it is present.
  8. Sounds like you had it rough too. How did you end up handling it? My buddy and i talked about it, we couldn't understand how you can get hit by a train. After all, they don't just sneak up on you. We always wondered if it was suicide but he never showed any signs of depression. But we were young and when you are young you are more resilient. after a month or so we just kind of moved on. I know that sounds kind of harsh but i guess thats just how it went. To the o.p., i agree with the statements here that you should take your friend out. Even if you guys do nothing but talk about what happened the whole night that's ok, he needs to talk to someone so he doesn't bottle this up and carry the weight around.
  9. I agree, seems like its seeping water into you cylinder after you shut it off. once it cools and you try to start it, the cylinder has a bunch moisture in it. once you rev it, it dries out the plug then runs fine. I had a 86 astro with the same issue. don't put off the repair if it is a head gasket cause you don't want that kind of trouble.
  10. One time i went with my friend to a friend of ours house. We knocked on the door and his mom came to the door. We asked if he was home and it turned out he got hit by a train and had died. we were 15 or so at the time. That's something I'll never forget. But death is part of life, I've had my share of it. in the last 10 years I've lost 4 grandparents a cousin, a brother to cancer, a brother to suicide and now my mom has incurable cancer. I know your situation is different but, if there was a crime committed i hope for you that however did it get put behind bars for a long time. Best wishes.
  11. I was just making a joke. Thats the flaw with text communication, tone of voice just doesn't carry over well...
  12. now i want to run my cars a/c through some of those liquid cooling heat sinks for cpu's on my magnets. lol
  13. Compressed air gets hot Decompressed air gets cold my bad, i was thinking of how air is cold when it comes out of an air compressor, i got it backwards. lol
  14. at the risk of being trolled, compressed air gets cold. are you using a sealed enclosure?
  15. How about this place, Looks like you can customize it however you want. http://www.stumpfballoons.com/Refill.htm don't bllow yourself up mang!
  16. are you saying that the bass is not louder now with a bigger amp? Here is my question. Did you have the gains set with the old headunit using a dd1? If not then you where probably louder before because you may have been clipping and not known it. You can have clipping on your subs and not hear it pretty easy. Also the manual says to set the subs with -5db not 0db. Not sure if you did this or not. If i misunderstood you, then just ignore my rambling.
  17. huh, i just noticed there are 3 replies here. This post sat dead for a good bit so i almost gave up on it. I did post in that other thread, bur it requires a moderator approval first. It's going to cost me about 750 to rebuild it not including a clutch and getting the flywheel resurfaced/replaced. So that's just not an option right now since i am dumping a crapload of money into reroofing my house. Thanks for the replies though.
  18. So I need to replace 5th gear in my 87 accord. There isn't a lot of info out there or parts for that matter. Anyway, on to my question. My transmission is the A2 manual 5 speed, i found this thread http://www.g1teg.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=35945, and it shows a gear swap on a CG tranny. I have the same cover plate on mine and am wondering if this technique would work for my transmission. All i will be doing is putting in a new 5th the same as mine, I really don't have the budget to completely rebuild the tranny and don't want to tear it down completely just for 5th gear
  19. I learned on a manual, funny thing about my car that i drive now is, the previous owner trashed the clutch. So no matter how you adjust it it either slips, or doesn't release. So i have to shift without using the clutch. It releases just enough to let me downshift, but i have to blip the engine to go from 3rd to 2nd, and 2nd to 1st. lol gonna cost me 500-700 to get a clutch and have the flywheel surfaced since i don't have the tools to do it.
  20. you can use these to hook into your stock wire so you dont have to cut the plug off they sell these at radio shack and walmart
