I recently bought a DD1 from SHCA and tried finding my headunits max undistorted volume. I get distortion way before a signal. All settings are off or flat, I unplugged both RCA’s from the amp and plugged one into the DD1. Im not sure if I have a faulty unit or if my headunit isn’t strong enough for the DD1 to pickup the signal. for reference: Headunit: Boss Audio BE7ACP Amp: Skar Audio RP1500 sub: Skar EVL 12 RCA’s: Rockville

I’m using Bluetooth/Spotify as my only way to listen to music on my HU Could be this be the reason why the dd1 is not detecting distortion?? I have a marine head unit, Fusion ra670 along with a JL 800/8v2 amp. I'm using the dd1 and it won't or can't detect any distortion from my unit. Heres what I've tried. New batteries used are Rayovac and then Duracell. I've tried hooking the red probe to positive speaker terminal (positive puts out signal) and black probe to ground. I've tried hooking the red probe to positive speaker terminal along with black probe to negative speaker terminal. I turned the INPUT SENSITIVITY all the way down, filter mode switched off. Even turned frequency levels up on the 3rd try even tho it wasn't necessary. Went through all the settings in my head unit, put everything to flat in each zone, and turned off loud options as well. I used the 0db 1khz and 0db 40hz test tones from the Smd website via bluetooth. The dd1 detects signal at around 15 and 40hz at 16, same for 1khz track. I kept going up on volume and the dd1 could not detect any distortion for both tracks 1 and 2 test tones. My head unit max volume is 24. I also made sure each zone volume limiter was set to 24 as well. I also have a JL Rd 1500 amp with 2 subs, I did not test that yet since I've been trying to figure out what's going on? What am I doing wrong? or could it be my Deck is distortion free, which I doubt.

I finally added the AMM-1 to my toolbox. I received it last week and of course I decided to do some bench testing with it. However, I was pretty disappointed to discover that my DD-1 and Oscilloscope are both detecting clipping BEFORE my AMM-1 does. (See Attached Video) Can anyone else with an AMM-1 and a DD-1 or Oscilloscope confirm this same performance? My DD-1 is the older "Made in the USA" version but my AMM-1 is the newer "Made in China" version, so could it be a quality control issue? I'm just wondering if I might have gotten a defective AMM-1 or something. I mean it's gotta be defective right? You can clearly see the signal is clipped on the oscilloscope long before the AMM-1 ever picks it up. Of course the DD-1 is all over it though so why would the $450 AMM-1 not be performing just as good as the DD-1? I tried sending an Email to [email protected] but haven't received a reply yet. @meade916@TonyD'Amore O-Scope vs DD-1 vs AMM-1.mp4

Hello all, new to this forum and I’ve stumbled across here many times for research. Now brings my question and I’m hoping someone will be able to provide me with some insight with the DD-1+ (which I also recently purchased and have used a few times). While finding my maximum undistorted volume on the headunit, I notice the distortion light illuminates at about halfway on my 2016 VW Passat stock headunit but if i go a click up... the light stays out and continues to stay out until the headunit’s volume is maxed out. Now why is this happening, it’s been puzzling me all day, does my HU just distort at one point for some odd reason? Or is this device just capable of detecting such small amounts? So far I’m highly satisfied with it just have this very question with my situation. I have a P1000x1bd amplifier that has the “clean setup” and is equipped with led that comes on when the HU distorts, but this stays off consistently throughout the process. My guess would be the DD-1+ Is superior to detecting it over the clean setup, but like I said I’m not too sure, any insight helps. Thanks guys!

hello I recently purchased a distortion detector and the problem is I have a BMW 3 series and it does not show the volume level, How would I use this properly without knowing the acutally volume level that its at?, it's the navigation headunit type, Plus if I remove the subwoofer speaker wire from the amp, the door speakers still play loud from the Cd tracks is that normal ? becuase in YouTube videos i see online i dont hear any sound while they set their gains. 2 Amps: Mrv500, do I set the LP filter back to 80hrz after its tuned? 2 subwoofers: Pioneer TS-W309D4 12" Champion Series Subwoofer with Dual 4 Voice Coil

Ok, so I have a Pioneer AVH#### head unit, and the volume it distorts at is 37. So when adjusting the gain on the JAD 1200.1 I can max out the gain on the amp and still get no distortion, but even when I have the gain all the way up and put the actual head unit into distortion above 37 I still get no distortion from the amplifier. I do notice that when adjusting the gains I hit tiny bits of distortion but it quickly goes away. Could there possibly be an issue somewhere with the amp? Has anyone had any similar issues? Note that I have 2 of these amps and I get similar results with both of them. I know it may be a slim chance both of them would have the same problems, but you never know.

I have a dual audio deck that i guess rms at 18watts. is there any other way than using a DD1 to find the clipping volume. I know how to use a DVM to find the rms on my sub amp abut i wanna get the best volume from the deck first. Secondly. Everything in my jeep is stock except for the deck, mono amp, and subs. .... alt, battery, everything else is stock. im only running 250rms and my lights dimm a little on heavy bass (yes i know its only 250 but it slams for just that) i want to upgrade. 12's down to 10's for more punch but go from 250rms to maybe 500ish to 1000rms (for now). and get a 4 channel for my speakers and get some decent compenents. What are the best things to upgrade on a budget that are necessary for running a god amount of power. Thanks
