  1. So I noticed the db-r has a 1500d for sale at an awesome price but it is the older second version. My question is. Having vastly different boards (from the pictures I've seen) how much different it is than the newer version. I know output is going to be a small difference but what about cooling ability ( I realize the v3 has a fan) and overall reliability? Thanks!
  2. I just went from a Hifonics BRX 2400 to a SAZ 3500D V2 Sundown amp. Problem is, it sounds identical to the hifonics amp. I don't hear any difference from what I can tell. Its rather dissapointing since the hifonics was around $350 and the Sundown was almost $1,000. I'm running my subs at 2ohms because they are both Dual 4 ohms. Though the box I have isn't big or spacious for these subs at, I would have thought there would have been some difference in the quality at that. On another note, I'm getting a constant "humming noise" through my subs even with the volume all the way down. I think its my rca cables and not the amp because I switched between amps and it was doing it on the hifonics as well. Just seemed to crap out between the switch which is odd, since i was bumping an 1hr before the switch. Maybe there is some mixed wiring somewhere, I'm not sure tbh. Thanks
  3. I know that in the description of the sundown x series that they are low frequency drivers and do not expect to have them excel at high frequency bass notes. what is considered high frequency for this sub because everyone has a different definition of what a high frequency bass note is. my crossover is set to 85 hz give or take a few hz. Thanks Greg
  4. I have a sundown saz 1500d v2 I just bought off the org owner ...he had a wreck and needed money for a new car he lost the remote and I need one... so the question is where can I get one, and does the warranty carry form owner to owner if its within the time frame and would it cover the remote??? edit: are ther other remotes that are compatible with my amp?
  5. Hello, im from Belgium so sorry for my bad english, i hope you will understand me. im planning on buying 2 Sundown SA 12's and im going to run them on a Massive Audio N3 amp. and i need your help and thoughts, i know a little of how to calculate a box for the subs bud im not not that good in it. 1, i drive a Ford Fiesta mk6.5 and my car runs on 14.3/14.4V 2, Does the 12's going to be too big for my car? i want A LOT OF BASS, i love the very lows like decaf songs etc... 3, i will do the big 3 upgrade to my car bud i would love to keep the stock alt, is that possible? 4, will someone plz design a box for me for the 2 12's? i was thinking about a 30Hz tuning, subs facing up, and the port in the middle of the subs (also facing up). or would it be better to face the port to the back? my trunk dimension i can use are: 45cm height, 97cm wide, 45cm deep. I really hope you will help me out with this, i dont know that much of subs/amps/box making, i ony installed some entry lvl sub/amps an made 1 box for a kicker L7 12" so i dont have that much experiance. and if you agree to help me out with this, will you plz design a box in centimeters / millimeters with 18mm MDF? because here in belgium we only got 18 or 21 millimeter MDF. (not 19mm like 3/4inch and with torres calculator you only can use 19mm MDF) You don't know how much i would appreciate it if you would help me... Plz let me know something... grtz
  6. I ordered and purchased a saz-3500d v2 on May 3 and from soundsolutionsaudio and shipped out may 5th and received on may 7th. Hooked it up to my 2 fi audio dual 1ohm subwoofers that are wired to 1Ohm. barely any bass. I had my 2 saz1500d ran each to their own sub wired at .5ohms before the purchase and changed the wiring to series on both subs and parallel outside the box for 1ohm and had one of my saz1500d hooked up to them. had no problems with the saz1500d at 1ohm. so a friend and I took my subs out to check everything. checked the ohms with my dmm, did the volt battery test to see if subs are both in phase, hooked up to my friends rcas and headunite. so I filled out a RMA with sundown and had to pay to ship it to them for warranty after I emailed ssa. sweet. now im over $1000 for this amp and have to wait longer. so waited for the authorization and ended up sending it fedex on may 15th. well it got there on Saturday and their not open so it was delivered on Tuesday may 20th since they don't deliver on Mondays. great.. even longer wait. didn't hear from them so I emailed on Thursday the 26th if they got the amp even though I knew they did with the tracking number and got a reply that they did and give them some time to look at it. on the 29th I got a call from them saying they had the same problem with the amp I had and will send out a new amp. good because I wasn't going to take a freaking refurbished amp. so I get the amp yesterday the 31st from fedex. I had my daughter this weekend so I didn't bother opening it up since I had no time and I work both days for overtime 3rd shift. I ended up opening it before bed and I give the amp a look over to make sure it was a new one and not the one I sent back to them refurbished. one of the tabs at the end is so horribly bent upward that there is no freaking way someone who works there didn't see or didn't know that the damage happened to the amp. im so freaking pissed at waiting this long for a freaking working amp; by the way haven't hooked it up yet as I got off of work at 7AM and not even sure if I want to keep the damn amp. i need another saz-3500d v2 for my setup for 4 fi audio 12" Qs but now i don't want to purchase the last amp. how did this amp get through visually at all. i have owned 3 sundown amps. i still own 2 of them my saz1500d's and owned a saz3000d that i had hooked up to my fi BTL fully loaded subwoofer. but this just ridiculous. if this is what i get after sending a amp that should be working in the first place like it should without turning the subwoofer level on deck all the way up and over 1/2 gain. and its the tab that i actually use to screw that amp down. i would like to send it back never hooked up and get my refund and ill take the hit on 2 times sending the amps back and purchase a different companys product.
  7. Components that count for this question are as follows: Amp: JBL GTO-751ez Sub/Box: Sundown SA-8v2 dual 4 ohm in 1.4 cubic feet net @ 33hz I know the enclosure's too big, especially for the power. That's why I've been GENTLE with it. I've got a lot of amp gain to go UP before it's 'tuned' (a long, long way)-- I tuned it up using the JBL setup cd and then proceeded to crank it way the hell down (to about 1/3rd of where the setup CD put it) because I didn't need any more to get full excursion. Max (tuned) volume at the Head unit is 30 (out of 50). I only rarely break 20...never played full tilt (can't stand the highs anymore past 25, rockfords are loud as hell!) Anyway, the sub cut out today on the way home. Dual 4 ohm sub is now reading 2.3 ohms and 3.5 ohms on the respective coils. I pulled the sub out of the box, and the coils look fine, as do the tinsels and spider so I'm hesitant to think I did any mechanical damage from the big box, but there's no burnt coil smell either. Actually smells like MDF sawdust and new woofer still. Only a few months old. Checked my connections (first thing I did, actually) and everything's good there. Anyone have any input? EDIT: Just measured the coils again. Dead-on 4.7 ohms per coil now. Perfect match. Either my DMM sucks (probably) or I'm a retard.
  8. Well, hello guys. I'm new to the sundown group, and last week became the owner of my first sundown product, a SAZ-3500 v1. Got it in a trade for my Skar sk1500 plus 160 bucks on my end. So i got it for a steal. Amp looks brand new, and is fully functional. I love it! I have it on 2 PSI Platform 2 18s. So hello everyone! Also, has this amp been on the amp dyno? Really curious to what it actually does. Heres a link to my build thread for anyone that cares:http://www.down4sound.com/forum/showthread.php?24951-93-Exploder-Build-Log
  9. I am thinking about putting 1 12" Sundown ZV4 12" REV 2 in the trunk of my bmw 530i. Most likely going to face the box towards the seats since my seats fold all the way down. I will most likely get a 220 amp H/O alt from exsessive amperage, its about the biggest I could find from a notable company (singer, mechman, dc power, or anyone else that might be named has already been contacted and they wont make one for my car). I will probably have 2 extra batts (xs power d3100s probably) and a stock replacement, big 3 and a couple runs of 0 guage ran. My questions are, What size amp can I get away with here? I was hoping to go with a sundown SCV-3000d just to keep it in the sundown family. Would this be too much for a single ZV4 12? Reccomendations welcome... Would a straight back facing box or maybe a rear deck blowthrough get me better numbers? Would the elictrical I have be enough to keep this amp happy? Please help me out, all opinions are welcome. Any opinions on possible numbers? Any help is greatly appreciated. (No im not a "sundown fanboy" I actually just had a 15" FI BTL N2 on a BC3500d in my last vehicle, I just dont have the room for it in this one and wanted to try something new)
  10. It's time to get some new equipemt in my new car. I was hoping I could get some opinions on which route to go. I am stuck deciding between one or two SA 15's, or one X 15 or 18. Budget is about $550 for subs. Space is not an issue and I don't mind using up the entire trunk. I also plan on selling my amps and just getting one nice amp for the subs and same for my speakers (unless anyone thinks I should just stick with what I have) Below is what I have so far for my build. I am contemplating between a SCV-1500D or a SCV-2000D depending on what I end up going with for sub(s). Car: 2002 Trailblazer LT Alternator: Stock 140 amp (I will upgrade it if I have to) Big three: XS power XP kit for ease of installation Battery: XS Power D3400 under the hood. Head unit: Pioneer deh-80prs Front stage: Morel Maximo 6.5 components (I plan on deadening all 4 doors) Rear fill: Morel Maximo 6.5 coaxials Speaker amp: old school Soundstream Pic 4.480 (had it for 10 years, it will get me by for now) Subwoofer amps: 2 Viper d1200.1's that can be strapped. (more 10 year old amps) I heard an SA 15 briefly and liked the way it sounded, but didn't get a chance to really hear it on a lot of different music. I have not heard the X. I wish I could just go somewhere and listen to them for myself, but that obviously isn't an option. I don't plan on competing, just looking for a nice daily driver setup that gets loud and low, while sounding clean and hopefully getting a little air moving I listen to mostly Rap, EDM, dubstep, and a little rock music here and there. Only thing that scares me away from the X is seeing a lot of people talking about how they aren't very musical, but then I see people saying there are -- too many mixed reviews. I feel like the more I read and research, the more confused I get. I don't care want all out SPL and probably will never get it meetered. Loud to the ear while moving a bunch of air is good enough for me. Well, as least as much air as I am able to given the limited amount of power I will have. I don't plan on upgrading so I want to get this right the first time. I would like to keep electrical upgrades to a minimum,. I am sick of going back and forth on sub/amp decisions for the past couple weeks. I want to just place and order already -- preferably today. Thanks in advance for any input anyone might have.
  11. So i have what i think is a pretty simple question. If i have a regular flooded battery as a starter battery can i use an XS power battery as a supplement to my car audio system. for now it would be a saz 1500d at 2 ohms, so only about 800 or so watts, which i know is not much for that battery but when i get some different subs and wire to 1 ohm ill be around 1500 watts. my main question is would i HAVE to run a relay as to separate the batteries when the car is off? would their be a constant push/pull from the two batteries that could potentially cause the batteries to drop below 12.6 while im not using the car. the longest i go without using my car is about 4 to 6 days. its rare that i ever go a full week without at least cranking it and letting the regular battery charge a bit while i listen to some music. Thanks in advance to everyone who answers!
  12. I'm trying to determine enclosure specifications for a pair of 12" ZV3's for my car. Planned power is a pair of SCV-3000's strapped at 1-ohm. I've never had the opportunity to play around with any Sundown drivers bigger than the SA Series. I did just finish a box for my girlfriend's X-12 which called for a considerably larger enclosure than what I am used to for your average 12" driver but wasn't sure if the rest of their mid-to-upper lines all preferred larger enclosures. Their website recommends 2.0ft^3 per, but i'm also putting more than 1500 watts to them. Note: I have already searched the forum to no avail. Any help is appreciated!
  13. Well if you like low end monsters get these, the box is built for 18s but i am just waiting on recones for the new 18s, there are 10s and they get DOWN.
  14. So first of all, let me say that this is a subjective review, backed by some testings. Don't expect something ultra scientific - just my opinion on this beast. The subwoofer belongs to a friend of mine. It is a Sundown Zv4 rev.2 15" with NSv2 D2 coil. Here it is next to his Ground Zero Plutonium 15" and next to my humble 12". His car is an Audi A6 C4 Avant. He has an OEM 120A alt (which will be changed when possible), one 70ah AGM battery at the front and three 105ah AGM batteries at the back. He has a GZPA 1.10k HC amp, which claims to produce a bit over 10k at 1 ohm. The subwoofer box was built by me - 4,6 cu.ft. (130 litres) tuned at 32hz with an interchangeable 8" aero. Double layer mdf everywhere and triple layer baffle. And in the car: Now for some impressions. Pictures and videos do this thing no justice! If you haven't seen or touched a sub that big, it literally shocks you. I am very impressed with everything about this thing - the new cooling on the motor, the new surround, the leads.... Let me say that this is the first sundown new platform sub that I have touched with my hands. I can only imagine how big the NSv3 and the Team are... I won't post pictures of different parts of the sub - you have probably seen them already. The cooling is a bit noisy (which I think is a good thing because of the higher velocity of the air that cools the coil - Jacob could chime in on that) but the suspension itself is VERY quiet up to very high excursion. I don't think the leads will have any problems with the power you'd like to throw at it. Mechanically this thing is top notch - the linear excursion is high enough to ensure high spl levels without much distortion and the hard bottom limits of the motor/coil are pretty hard to reach. You will more likely stress the soft parts before the coil gets close to the bottom - we will get to that part later. Thermally - WOW! For a "2000" rms sub this thing cools like a champ! Good job on that! I know that this particular one is with a bit longer coil (from NSv2) but you get the idea. When we first loaded the sub, we expected that it won't require much power and we will have to bring down the gains from the previous setup (GZPW 15SPL tuned at 47hz, wired at 0,5 ohm). Boy, was I mistaken! We only had to adjust the filters a bit. If the power we gave it was clean - no signs of any smell or overheating. It only smelled when the power was clipped. Keep in mind that the sub was rather new on that moment, so It wasn't broken in completely. From then to now there is a night and day difference. With this 10k amp, wired at 1 ohm and with this box, we didn't experience any mechanical trouble near or above tuning. The amp would start clipping before we could stress the suspention enough to turn it down. We left the LPF at 40hz with 12db slope. Of course, we had to use subsonic, but nothing drastic. When the cone exceeds its linear travel, the suspension starts stressing and there is BL distortion, so it gets a bit loud mechanically, but we're talking over 3" p-p. Mechanical limit of the motor is over 4" as you all know - we didn't dare reach it. It's not healthy for the driver either Surprisingly, even with a 32hz tuning and a bigger than suggested box, it played the higher frequencies quite well - was very surprised on that! I wanted to tune this thing at 28-29, but there wasn't enough space for that - we used a straight aeroport and we had to keep an adequate distance between the walls and the mouths of the port. Next box will definitely be slightly bigger on volume and lower on tuning! On its first competition it did 151,7db at 36hz on the dash - driver's door open and with people pushing the doors. It also did 135,6db at 25hz, 149db at 33hz and 149,7db at 40hz. It wasn't broken in completely, but I can't say how much that will affect the scores. We measured the power going to the sub on different frequencies using the clamping method, which is NOT the most adequate way to do this, but it gets the work done. There was NO clipping during these tests, therefore the sub stayed cool the whole time and there wasn't any sign of smell, even when measuring at tuning. I'll just put the numbers we got at tuning (32hz) and at best score (36hz). These tests were NOT done when we measured the system on the competition - when we measure we introduce a bit of clipping to get the score higher. System voltage stayed between 12.3-12.8 during the tests. At 36hz 116.1V x 24.7A = 2867 watts, rising to 4,7 ohms At 32hz 109.9V x 44.0A = 4835 watts, rising to 2,5 ohms I repeat, these tests were done with no clipping and without fully charged batteries. The test tones were played for a couple of seconds to ensure that the sub doesn't have any problems with longer playing on that power. The power needed to achieve the scores I mentioned earlier would have been a bit higher. So yeah, I can pretty much say that on 2000 watts, be it clamped or with a 2-3k amp, this subwoofer will have ABSOLUTELY NO problems (if it is clean, of course). If you keep the power clean and adjust the subsonic properly, you could feed this thing A LOT of power. And that's daily - on burp it could and would handle much more. I don't even understand how people can listen to this with a 3-4k amp for example - it just begs for more (clean) power! If I could wire this thing at 0,5 ohm on this 10k amp (after getting proper alternator) - I'd deffinitely do it. It's better to keep a powerful amp down, rather than clipping a smaller one. Of course, with higher power comes greater responsibility, so I'd have to adjust the gains and filters accordingly, but overal I don't think I'll have a problem and it will perform better than now. Do I recommend on going over the rated power? Absolutely no! At least for those who don't know what they are doing. You will void your warranty and may damage the subwoofer. Thank you for your time, hope you enjoyed my review! Here's a little "shirt" trick for finale. Wait a bit for the good part.
  15. Im selling my L7's and my zx1000.1 for 750you (funniest shit ever) and i wanna make the jump to sundown cuz from what i read are amazing. I heard they can be overpowered nicely. I was thinking 1000rms each on D2 Sa-12's. And im gonna get a box made for them ir maybe build my own. Can i get some amp recommendations?
  16. hey sundown, i was in the process of trying to design a box for my X15 and i ran into a couple of road blocks. btw thanks a ton for posting the T/S parameters for the X series subs on your site recently it's really nice to have all those in one place now. not trying to be a dick but i think there's a couple missing though (at least i think, i could be blind) that are making it really hard to finish my design could you post the, Woofer Displacement Xmax Sd if those were there i'd be awesome. thanks, RevoRacing
  17. There is a local show coming up for me on June 30th in PA...12v thunder hosted by 12v Dave... I had a box built a while back for two DAD bd 12's (fs of 28hz) (I wanted an enclosure that complimented the low end)..The enclosure ended up being 5.0 cubic feet after displacements tuned to 26hz (confirmed with an IM-SG1). The original build was this enclosure with the two DAD bd 12's on their own Skar audio 1500's at 1 ohm...It played VERY flat with a peak of 145.5 db at 31-33hz with the mic on the dash and driver side door open (termlab) and also a 137.7db at 17hz....I also clamped 1800 watts coming from the pair of 1500's... I had purchased four powerbass XTA 6000D's just for the hell of it and out of curiousity put one on the two DAD bd 12's at 0.5 ohms....Sounded to me like a 150+ at around 30hz...although the drivers didn't last long on that power (DAD bd's have two spiders total and are spaced apart...Here is a video of what it did on the 6k though... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUHmK_1ZTXQ A few months back I picked up a pair of Pierce Audio 1k 12's (fs of 37hz) for a client who wanted a build....I tossed em in this enclosure on a rockford 1500 bcp at 1 ohm just to break them in and did a 144.8 at 31-33hz on music (mic was in the same confirguarion as last time). The Pierces sounded good in this enclosure but definitely lacked the low end performance that the DAD's had....I wanted to demonstrate what two 12's can do at 20-30hz in the proper enclosure at this upcoming show, but the current subs wern't gonna cut it.. So I did a little bit of digging and ended up talking to Bryan Chamberlein from Sundown and told me had a pair of sundown X 12's that were there chilling at Sundown HQ and had some coil rub from testing. He agreed that he would recone them both for me with production soft parts and a deal was made. I am the proud owner of a pair of Sundown X 12's, he told me I will have em' before the show so now I just need to play the waiting game... The enclosure was temporarily sold in between set ups and was butched by the temporary owner and I bought it back from him at a reduced price...The enclosure is going to get a makeover and some threaded rod to add some support because I am going to invert the subs which will put quite a bit of weight on the front baffle (front baffle is a doubled up with 3/4" mdf too). The set up will be the pair of x 12's (dual 2 ohm coils) each wired to their own rf 1500 bdcp at 1 ohm. I am very excited to see this enclosure sounds with a pair of subs that are made for low end extension. Sorry about the rant, will upload pics and vids as stuff comes along. The enlcosure needs quite a bit of work done on it so posting this will give me some motivation to get work done (;
  18. I know most men out there love hooters, as well as going to hooters. =] Another thing most people enjoy are hair tricks. So here's a quick vid of both combined! SHARE LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!!
  19. Would a ct sounds 1400.1d be too much for a pair of sa8v2's to handle? The box is 2.2 cu ft with a 4in aero port tuned to 35hz and of course the gains will be set with a dd-1
  20. So after getting to play with the Skar Audio VVX subs - http://www.stevemead...-audio-vvx-12s/ we were anxious to try the amps of the same brand.... and here they are, in Russia, posing for a quick photoshoot along with the awesome SMD DD-1 and CC-1 that we got from Steve We already had the VVX12's out of the Audi (and sold actually as quite a few people were very impressed by their abilities) and the Sundown z12v2's with d1 coils in.... so this meant we could take two SK1500.1's and and run them bridged @ 1ohm (0.5 nominal per amp) Gains were set using the SMD DD-1, to ensure that there is no clipping. here's a good vid playing Gucci, moving quite a bit of air and being slightly loud with 148+ @30hz on the meter (I know it's hard to see in the vid) and here's the clamp of the power figures @ 148.4 we got 2930 watts of clean power from two amps with a rise to 2.5ohms and a drop to 11.6v.....this is also after about an hour of testing and playing music on drained batteries...... which is damn good, especially at this low a frequency Overall, the amps are great, very well built, sound extremely plesant and are stable below 1ohm Good job Skar Audio!
  21. Hey so i'm sure there are many other threads about this somewhere but i cant seem to find one. All im looking for is maybe a link to a previous thread, or some quick dimensions thrown out there that i can run through the box tuning calculator, as i want to do my next system on an Sundown SA-12... Thanks!
  22. So we've naturally been keeping an eye on Skar Audio over the past year or so due to the questions we get here in Russia from the people that follow our builds....you know, the usual - what do yoy think about Skar subs? when do you think they will be available in Russia? how do they stack up against so and so sub? so we had to get some As most of you already know - the quality and overall fit and finish on these subs is amazing. everything from the full-size dustcap to the magnet boot is just the way it should be So we popped the into the shop's Audi A4 sedan box is just a shade over 4.5 cubes net with a single 8" flared port firing to the side...on paper tunning is 37hz, but it peaks much lower due to the loading effect of the port firing into the fenderwell amp is a Sundown Audio SAZ3500D @ 0.5ohms with two XS Power bats and Shok industries wire....the stock alt in the audi is a dog however, so voltage easily drops below 12 so, on to the scores with the subs fresh out of the package, with no break in we managed a 147.4 @ 30hz this was apparently no sweat for the subs and the were laughing at the power.... which was clamped at 2791 watts on this run with a drop to 11.6 volts and rise to just over 1.1ohms.... very impressive then we tried 30hz and were rewarded with a 148.00 !!! the subs obviously need more break in - we clamped 2640watts this time with 12volts and slightly over 1.2ohms then it was time to let them wang full-tilt ob a pretty rough track full-tilt for 3 minutes on a saz3500@half-ohm metering 146+ the whole time with no hint of coil-smell = win in my book overall - we are really impressed with the subs...they pound the lows, move air and can put up numbers stay tuned for moar vids as i get them uploaded
  23. Ok, so some our Team Sundown guys got their NS-1's and clamped them on a resistor...this basically means there's no rise the resistor pack used for this test is 0.7 ohms Power supply 8 Stinger SP 2150's resting at 12.9v measured 80 volts 114 amps voltage drop 11,8v Power: 9120 watts guys said the amps is a beast in terms of low impedance stability, stayed cool the whole time the vid Effficiency 984 Amps of draw at 11,8 volts 78% efficiency at 0.7 ohms is damn good
  24. Recieved TWO nice boxes... The sweetness of the Zv3-10's !! WOOT-WOOT
