  1. I have a question for anyome who can help. I just ordered 2 sundown zv6 18" subs. My first big boy subs. I know they each call for 7 cubic ft, with 112 cubic inches of port area @ 32 hertz. So if im making a dual 18 box, instead of single boxes, do I need 14 cubes, 224 cubic inches of port? Or would it be better to go like 12-13 cubic ft and a little less port area since they are in the same box? Also, would it be better to run single boxes? Or a dual? I have an suv so space isn't an issue, and I am going for spl/DB scores. Anyone have any opinions feel free to chime in please. Thanks for any input. Also, I have been looking at a box design by intune designs, anyone ever used it or seen the design they have? Thanks guys. I added a photo of the design im looking at.
  2. Buying an enclosure designed for zv3s, I'm wondering if I can put Us in it instead and not buy more zv3s
  3. Whats up bass heads. I recently got a pair of sundown U series 15s, dual 2 ohm. I have a 2006 double cab toyota tundra and obviously, 1st thing i did was took my back seats completely out. Lol. Im looking for box recomendations for these 2 sundown U 15s. I currently have 2 american bass xfl 15s in a 8 cubic box tuned to 32 hertz. Subs up port facing driverside door. Port area is 120 cubic inches. Huge port! They absolutely slam. But im taking them out and installing these sundowns. Could i just drop them in this same box? This is everything i am installing this week- 1 Deaf bonce apocalypse AAK 4000.1 amp 2 sundown U series 15s 1 pioneer DEH-S6220BS head unit 2 DS18 neo pro 6.5 loudspeakers 4 memphis audio 6.5 in the doors 1 Deaf Bonce Apocalypse 1000 watt 2 channel amp For the ds 18 6.5s I already have- 1 brand new agm under the hood 1 brand new yellow top optima inside 1 Xs power 630 farad super cap All 0 gauge ofc and 10 gauge ofc for subs and 14 ofc for speakers. HO alt coming soon. Im currently running the xfl 15s and a taramps md 8k. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks guys.
  4. A friend wants me to recone his Sundown 10" sub but we can't figure out what model/version it is so we can order the correct recone kit. I've sent 2 emails to Sundown and also a email to directronix for help but so far no response. I don't want to guess and end up with the wrong recone and have to send it back. I've included some pics before the sub was stripped down. Really hope someone can help.
  5. I just bought a dd1 distortion detector and I was wondering what track I should play to tune my amp. They have -5db, -10db, and -15db. I currently use a usb with all songs downloaded at -7.5db and want the loudest and cleanest sound I can get out of it. I have 4 skar ddx 15s on a crescendo 4.5k @ 1 ohm. And will using a dd1 make my system much louder if tuned right?
  6. I’m debating if I should get 2 12” u series subs or one 15” zv5 sub. I want to be able to feel the most bass. If I got 2 u series subs I would give them 2000 watts each making 4000 watts total and if I had the zv5 series I would give it 4000 watts. Which should I go with?!?
  7. I'm looking at building my first 4th order for a sundown zv4 rev2 15"d2. I have experience building custom boxes but have never built a bandpass. I'm not sure on what ratio to go with. I like lows but would really like something musical. It's going in a extended cab f150 powered by a shark 3500.1@1ohm. Could someone tell me how many cubes for the sealed and ported side and how many sqin my port should be and what's the best to tune it at? Any info is greatly appreciated!
  8. Finally finished the enclosure. 2 Sundown X 15s on a sundown SAZ-3000d. Running at 1 ohm. Box is tuned to 32 hz. Running 4 neo pro 6.5 in the doors and 4 sundown super tweeters. Sounds awesome!
  9. I really need help with a box design for a zv3 15" d1 that I just picked. I have it in a Dodge ram 1500 reg cab. I pulled out the center console and built a box between the seats. The first box I tried was 3ft after disp @34hz using 2-4" ports and running off a sundown sae1200. The sub was facing up and ports coming out the front towards the dash. It sounded OK but would not play Lowe's very well for a 15" sub. So I built another box that is 3.5ft after disp @ 31.5hz using a single 6inch port, same with sub facing up and port forward and it still does not pick up lows like I think it should. Is it the port size? Is it the single cab of my truck? Is it the way the sub and port are arranged???? Any help would be great, thanks!!
  10. Hey guys I am looking to start a new build in my 2008 Tahoe. I am set on 4 SA 15's. I was wondering if anyone could lead me in the right direction to get some ideas for an enclosure. I will have the whole trunk to work with. (Behind the rear passenger seat, third row has been removed) Any replies are appreciated !
  11. Hey guys, I am new to this forum and would appreciate all the feedback I can get! Decided to go with sundown because of all the positive reviews and great community! Anyways I want to build something that will give me the bump I am looking for in my daily driver. I had 2 15 kicker l7s previously with rated rms. This will be for a 2012 chevy Tahoe with alot of room to work with. After tons of research I have decided I really like the X series. I am thinking about ordering 2 x15's with an either sundown4000.1 or the skar 4500.1 (little cheaper) (student loan life) and building a custom ported box to spec. Now with it tuned correctly and installed correctly, do you guys recommend upgrading electrical for this set up? All feedback is greatly appreciated, and suggestions are welcomed.
  12. First time posting in this thread. Looking for a reliable hard pounding card audio system for around $1k. It is for a chevy Tahoe. So far I am considering getting a pair of Sundown Audio 12" 750W Dual 4-Ohm with the sundown audio 1500.1 or going with the skar audio 2000.1 monoblock (200$ cheaper). Will custom build the box accordingly and have a solid aftermarket head unit. Does this sound like a good set up for someone looking to get some extra bass from using a pair of L7s in the past?
  13. Hello everyone! New to this particular forum. I am looking to replace my old Rockford Fosgate T1 10D4 with something new. I ran the T1 for a long long time then stopped. I just don't feel it hitting in my chest like I remember. So hence the need to upgrade. I am running a Rockford Fosgate Prime R500x1d. Birth sheet says 633 RMS so real world I'm estimating 560 RMS. I have seen the SA-10 rated at 500 RMS but I've seen conflicting details. I do not want to under power this sub. I know the sd.3 is supposed to be more SQ based and has an rms rating of 500 rms. Obviously I would like whichever speaker I decide to have good SQ but I also want to feel it in my chest. I miss that feeling and watching everything in my truck shake. Any opinions or advice in either direction would be much appreciated. Thank you
  14. Hello people, Does anyone have or know the dimensions of the sundown team 15? I'm trying to build a box but can't seem to find the specs on the sub -Thank you
  15. Hey guys i just acquired a sa 8 and after reading many post about it i wanted to try a rear horn design . Can anyone direct me to past post with this design or assist me in the specs for this build . Thank you in advance Rory.
  16. Hello guys, i'm going to wall a jeep cherokee with 4 zv.4 15" d1's. Is it possible to drive them on a banda 10k? What would you guys recommand me? Regards from germany, Jacob
  17. So first of all, let me say that this is a subjective review, backed by some testings. Don't expect something ultra scientific - just my opinion on this beast. The subwoofer belongs to a friend of mine. It is a Sundown Zv4 rev.2 15" with NSv2 D2 coil. Here it is next to his Ground Zero Plutonium 15" and next to my humble 12". His car is an Audi A6 C4 Avant. He has an OEM 120A alt (which will be changed when possible), one 70ah AGM battery at the front and three 105ah AGM batteries at the back. He has a GZPA 1.10k HC amp, which claims to produce a bit over 10k at 1 ohm. The subwoofer box was built by me - 4,6 cu.ft. (130 litres) tuned at 32hz with an interchangeable 8" aero. Double layer mdf everywhere and triple layer baffle. And in the car: Now for some impressions. Pictures and videos do this thing no justice! If you haven't seen or touched a sub that big, it literally shocks you. I am very impressed with everything about this thing - the new cooling on the motor, the new surround, the leads.... Let me say that this is the first sundown new platform sub that I have touched with my hands. I can only imagine how big the NSv3 and the Team are... I won't post pictures of different parts of the sub - you have probably seen them already. The cooling is a bit noisy (which I think is a good thing because of the higher velocity of the air that cools the coil - Jacob could chime in on that) but the suspension itself is VERY quiet up to very high excursion. I don't think the leads will have any problems with the power you'd like to throw at it. Mechanically this thing is top notch - the linear excursion is high enough to ensure high spl levels without much distortion and the hard bottom limits of the motor/coil are pretty hard to reach. You will more likely stress the soft parts before the coil gets close to the bottom - we will get to that part later. Thermally - WOW! For a "2000" rms sub this thing cools like a champ! Good job on that! I know that this particular one is with a bit longer coil (from NSv2) but you get the idea. When we first loaded the sub, we expected that it won't require much power and we will have to bring down the gains from the previous setup (GZPW 15SPL tuned at 47hz, wired at 0,5 ohm). Boy, was I mistaken! We only had to adjust the filters a bit. If the power we gave it was clean - no signs of any smell or overheating. It only smelled when the power was clipped. Keep in mind that the sub was rather new on that moment, so It wasn't broken in completely. From then to now there is a night and day difference. With this 10k amp, wired at 1 ohm and with this box, we didn't experience any mechanical trouble near or above tuning. The amp would start clipping before we could stress the suspention enough to turn it down. We left the LPF at 40hz with 12db slope. Of course, we had to use subsonic, but nothing drastic. When the cone exceeds its linear travel, the suspension starts stressing and there is BL distortion, so it gets a bit loud mechanically, but we're talking over 3" p-p. Mechanical limit of the motor is over 4" as you all know - we didn't dare reach it. It's not healthy for the driver either Surprisingly, even with a 32hz tuning and a bigger than suggested box, it played the higher frequencies quite well - was very surprised on that! I wanted to tune this thing at 28-29, but there wasn't enough space for that - we used a straight aeroport and we had to keep an adequate distance between the walls and the mouths of the port. Next box will definitely be slightly bigger on volume and lower on tuning! On its first competition it did 151,7db at 36hz on the dash - driver's door open and with people pushing the doors. It also did 135,6db at 25hz, 149db at 33hz and 149,7db at 40hz. It wasn't broken in completely, but I can't say how much that will affect the scores. We measured the power going to the sub on different frequencies using the clamping method, which is NOT the most adequate way to do this, but it gets the work done. There was NO clipping during these tests, therefore the sub stayed cool the whole time and there wasn't any sign of smell, even when measuring at tuning. I'll just put the numbers we got at tuning (32hz) and at best score (36hz). These tests were NOT done when we measured the system on the competition - when we measure we introduce a bit of clipping to get the score higher. System voltage stayed between 12.3-12.8 during the tests. At 36hz 116.1V x 24.7A = 2867 watts, rising to 4,7 ohms At 32hz 109.9V x 44.0A = 4835 watts, rising to 2,5 ohms I repeat, these tests were done with no clipping and without fully charged batteries. The test tones were played for a couple of seconds to ensure that the sub doesn't have any problems with longer playing on that power. The power needed to achieve the scores I mentioned earlier would have been a bit higher. So yeah, I can pretty much say that on 2000 watts, be it clamped or with a 2-3k amp, this subwoofer will have ABSOLUTELY NO problems (if it is clean, of course). If you keep the power clean and adjust the subsonic properly, you could feed this thing A LOT of power. And that's daily - on burp it could and would handle much more. I don't even understand how people can listen to this with a 3-4k amp for example - it just begs for more (clean) power! If I could wire this thing at 0,5 ohm on this 10k amp (after getting proper alternator) - I'd deffinitely do it. It's better to keep a powerful amp down, rather than clipping a smaller one. Of course, with higher power comes greater responsibility, so I'd have to adjust the gains and filters accordingly, but overal I don't think I'll have a problem and it will perform better than now. Do I recommend on going over the rated power? Absolutely no! At least for those who don't know what they are doing. You will void your warranty and may damage the subwoofer. Thank you for your time, hope you enjoyed my review! Here's a little "shirt" trick for finale. Wait a bit for the good part.
  18. It's time to get some new equipemt in my new car. I was hoping I could get some opinions on which route to go. I am stuck deciding between one or two SA 15's, or one X 15 or 18. Budget is about $550 for subs. Space is not an issue and I don't mind using up the entire trunk. I also plan on selling my amps and just getting one nice amp for the subs and same for my speakers (unless anyone thinks I should just stick with what I have) Below is what I have so far for my build. I am contemplating between a SCV-1500D or a SCV-2000D depending on what I end up going with for sub(s). Car: 2002 Trailblazer LT Alternator: Stock 140 amp (I will upgrade it if I have to) Big three: XS power XP kit for ease of installation Battery: XS Power D3400 under the hood. Head unit: Pioneer deh-80prs Front stage: Morel Maximo 6.5 components (I plan on deadening all 4 doors) Rear fill: Morel Maximo 6.5 coaxials Speaker amp: old school Soundstream Pic 4.480 (had it for 10 years, it will get me by for now) Subwoofer amps: 2 Viper d1200.1's that can be strapped. (more 10 year old amps) I heard an SA 15 briefly and liked the way it sounded, but didn't get a chance to really hear it on a lot of different music. I have not heard the X. I wish I could just go somewhere and listen to them for myself, but that obviously isn't an option. I don't plan on competing, just looking for a nice daily driver setup that gets loud and low, while sounding clean and hopefully getting a little air moving I listen to mostly Rap, EDM, dubstep, and a little rock music here and there. Only thing that scares me away from the X is seeing a lot of people talking about how they aren't very musical, but then I see people saying there are -- too many mixed reviews. I feel like the more I read and research, the more confused I get. I don't care want all out SPL and probably will never get it meetered. Loud to the ear while moving a bunch of air is good enough for me. Well, as least as much air as I am able to given the limited amount of power I will have. I don't plan on upgrading so I want to get this right the first time. I would like to keep electrical upgrades to a minimum,. I am sick of going back and forth on sub/amp decisions for the past couple weeks. I want to just place and order already -- preferably today. Thanks in advance for any input anyone might have.
  19. I am thinking about putting 1 12" Sundown ZV4 12" REV 2 in the trunk of my bmw 530i. Most likely going to face the box towards the seats since my seats fold all the way down. I will most likely get a 220 amp H/O alt from exsessive amperage, its about the biggest I could find from a notable company (singer, mechman, dc power, or anyone else that might be named has already been contacted and they wont make one for my car). I will probably have 2 extra batts (xs power d3100s probably) and a stock replacement, big 3 and a couple runs of 0 guage ran. My questions are, What size amp can I get away with here? I was hoping to go with a sundown SCV-3000d just to keep it in the sundown family. Would this be too much for a single ZV4 12? Reccomendations welcome... Would a straight back facing box or maybe a rear deck blowthrough get me better numbers? Would the elictrical I have be enough to keep this amp happy? Please help me out, all opinions are welcome. Any opinions on possible numbers? Any help is greatly appreciated. (No im not a "sundown fanboy" I actually just had a 15" FI BTL N2 on a BC3500d in my last vehicle, I just dont have the room for it in this one and wanted to try something new)
  20. Well if you like low end monsters get these, the box is built for 18s but i am just waiting on recones for the new 18s, there are 10s and they get DOWN.
  21. i was going to buy 2 sa-12s, but i just got a offer for 2 soundstream t6-15s. should i take that instead?
  22. Gotta question for sundown and figured I'd post here since someone else probably wants to know too. Ive got an X8 - D2 ordered and would like to model and build a box. I want to double baffle flush mount it so I need to know a few things. T/S specs, cutout diameter, and outer diameter for sexy mounting. Mounting depth wouldnt hurt to know either. Ive searched everywhere and cant find anything. Can you hook a brother up?
  23. I plan to purchase some Sundown Audio equipment within the next 2 or 3 days, and I would like some suggestions on where to purchase it. No "brick and mortar" dealers near me, woofers etc. is not an option, 800 woofers is not an option, SSA is looking like my only option, so how is their shipping, customer service? I don't want to order from somewhere that has a ton of old stock, but don't want to wait 2 or 3 weeks for a build either. I have read mixed reviews on SSA's shipping times, but only from one side of course. Any other options other that the ones mentioned? Also would LOVE a coupon code, or forum member discount maybe?! Input appreciated!
  24. So I got an saz-1200 and would really like to match subs and amps. What you you guys personally recommend? I have plenty of air space. I like hard hitting lows. Most of what I play is below 45hz so I'm not really picky about being loud up higher above that. I really like the lower 30s and upper 20s. So what are some sundown recommendations on that kind of power? And it can either be 1 12, 2 12s, or 1 15. So what dother you think? Single sa 15? X 15? Sa 12s? X 12? Very open to suggestions. I hope this doesn't count as a vs thread. Thanks! Greg
