  1. hello I recently purchased a distortion detector and the problem is I have a BMW 3 series and it does not show the volume level, How would I use this properly without knowing the acutally volume level that its at?, it's the navigation headunit type, Plus if I remove the subwoofer speaker wire from the amp, the door speakers still play loud from the Cd tracks is that normal ? becuase in YouTube videos i see online i dont hear any sound while they set their gains. 2 Amps: Mrv500, do I set the LP filter back to 80hrz after its tuned? 2 subwoofers: Pioneer TS-W309D4 12" Champion Series Subwoofer with Dual 4 Voice Coil
  2. I just bought a dd1 distortion detector and I was wondering what track I should play to tune my amp. They have -5db, -10db, and -15db. I currently use a usb with all songs downloaded at -7.5db and want the loudest and cleanest sound I can get out of it. I have 4 skar ddx 15s on a crescendo 4.5k @ 1 ohm. And will using a dd1 make my system much louder if tuned right?
  3. i put in an audio control lc2 to use my stock radio on my 2017 silverado. my issue is that the dd1 shows distortion before signal detect on 1khz and i can turn it all the way up and it never detects 1khz. Im tapping into my dash speakers for signal since thats where the chimes and bluetooth calls are heard from that way everything still works like stock. i dont have my cd that came with the dd1 im using what i could find on google and youtube either one does the same thing.
  4. anyone in oc have a DD-1 they could let me use/help me set my gains? ill drive to you and bring you some beers
  5. Is the SMD DD-1 worth the money? I just blew a sub and want to try to prevent this from happening again, and just want better sounds.(mids, highs, ect) Thanks
  6. Please help me. Here’s my situation. So for my equipment, I’ve got a Pioneer KEH P88 as my head unit and a Pioneer DEQ P99 as my dsp. Yes I know they’re old but I like the look and the reverb effects of the dsp. I wont bother going into my mids in highs since all that is running flawlessly. For my lows, I’ve got a Deafbonce Apocalypse 4900.1. I have a 370a Alt with a D3100 and big 3 0 gauge. Also, since I like playing my music with reverb effects, those effects transfer over to the subwoofer output which make the sun play weird so I have the subs directly to my head unit. I am running a Q power 10” for testing before I throw in my sundowns. I also have an audio control epicenter installed. So I tuned my amp with a DD1+ and matched the voltage required for my q power wattage. I ser my Gain knob to 100% and set my epicenter knob to 0%. I played a 40hz at my headunits max volume before Clíp and tuned my amp. So I go to play rap music or any other music that already has bass where I don’t need the epicenter and I max my gain knob and everything works perfectly fine. Then I play a song with minimal bass and I go to turn the epicenter and don’t even get 1/4 of the way with the knob it sends my amp into protect mode and also I notice some serious voltage drop down to 10.4v. Keep in mind I was playing the amp at full tilt before I used the epicenter and it would be at a steady 14.6v. After that happened, I decided to not use the epicenter and have it at 0 and I played my bass full tilt and about 5 minutes later, it goes into protect. So here’s me theory. As far as the epicenter killing my amp, I believe I need to open it up and lower the voltage to 2v. As far as my amp turning off without the epicenter, I think it’s just maybe my old head unit, since it’s from the 1980s. Can anyone suggest what may be wrong with my system? Thanks in advance
  7. So I saw the manual that said use -10 for loud setting. So what is the -15 used for? Wouldn't that be used for louder sound? I did some research and found music these days whether it be pop or hip hop use a range between -12 to -14 on their recordings.
  8. Currently I am setting my gains on my d-4.800 and I am noticing something I have never seen before. First I use the dd1 on my head unit and I get max hu value of 39 of 40 When I go to the dsp on the d-4.800 I leave the input at 0db. If I go over this the max input light on the d-4.800 lights up. When I try to set the output gains at HU volume of 39 using the 1khz -5db it allows me to set the gain all the way up with no distortion. I think I am doing something wrong. I have used the dd1 before with my 360 and never had this issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bret
  9. Being new to car audio, i don't understand what "gain overlap" really means, -10db, -5db, 0db ? What is the best way to tune my system with my DD-1? And what settings should i set all my dials in the amp? This is my first time using this and I don't want to misunderstand steps from the manual. 2sundowns U12 D4 wired at 1ohm Skar rp4500 amp LC2I ACR1 (bass knob) for LC2I
  10. Hey Guys, I sent in my DD1 for repair I believe right around the first week in January 2019.. I got a message back from D'Amore Engineering on January 28th stating that it needed some minor repairs and to go ahead and pay for an "Overhaul" and that would cover it. When I went to pay for the "Overhaul" the only payment option was paypal... PayPal closed my account on me because of too many personal transactions. They said I was too high risk for them..lol whatever that means.. So I cant use or open up another paypal account. I replied to the info@damoreengineering email that contacted me about the repair on January 29. I explained that I could not use paypal for payments and asked if there was any other way I could arrange payment for the repair... I have not received any response and have since emailed them again and again. This is in no way a bash post on D'Amore Engineering.. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if there's any way that I can get a hold of someone over there at D'Amore... I love their products and have sent stuff in for repair in the past and never had an issue... Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, James.
  11. okay i just bought the dd1 a few days ago and i had couple quick questions. When tunning the amp should i use cd test track or downloaded versions on phone via bluetooth. honestly i dont listen to cds im either pluged into aux usb or bluetooth does that mean i should tune my amps while playing the track on my phone using aux usb or bluetooth or does it not matter its all them same??? reason i ask is because aux usb and bluetooth are considerably louder than cd i have pioneer 4800 bhs
  12. I am currently using only a SoundQubed 120.4 amplifier, with a set of components on the front channels, and a set of subs bridged on the rear channels. If I set both front and rear channels with the DD1 4 channel instructions, I get significantly less output through the subs. If I set the rear channel (bridged) with the DD1 sub amp instructions, the subwoofer output increases. My question is, is it OK to set the bridged rear channels of a 4 channel with the sub tracks, if that's what I'm using the rear channels for, or should I stick to the 4 channel settings regardless? I haven't seen anyone ask about this yet.
  13. Hello everyone im new to the forums just made an account today but I've always looked for info on here just finally made an account. I recently ordered my dd1 recently and finally got it home today. Ive always had friends tune my amps in the past but this time I wanted to give it a try myself. My amps are autotek sm4 1000.4 and autotek MM2500.1 if yall needed to know. When I go and set my gains up on the amps im not sure what to turn up and down. I have went through all the topics and couldn't really understand much so that's why im asking. 4 multi amp it says put in full and db at 0 but for the LPF and HPF do I just crank both all the way or leave it alone? Because it says turn frequency all the way up. Im new to tuning so I am unsure on what to turn up or down on HPF and LPF. Mono 0db subsonic, level, bass nob, and LPF so do I put the bass nob all the way up and crank the subsonic and LPF all the way before I do the ggains? Im not too sure on subsonic and LPF If yall can help guide me through this that would be wonderful and any information is appreciated thankyou everyone!
  14. I’m using Bluetooth/Spotify as my only way to listen to music on my HU Could be this be the reason why the dd1 is not detecting distortion?? I have a marine head unit, Fusion ra670 along with a JL 800/8v2 amp. I'm using the dd1 and it won't or can't detect any distortion from my unit. Heres what I've tried. New batteries used are Rayovac and then Duracell. I've tried hooking the red probe to positive speaker terminal (positive puts out signal) and black probe to ground. I've tried hooking the red probe to positive speaker terminal along with black probe to negative speaker terminal. I turned the INPUT SENSITIVITY all the way down, filter mode switched off. Even turned frequency levels up on the 3rd try even tho it wasn't necessary. Went through all the settings in my head unit, put everything to flat in each zone, and turned off loud options as well. I used the 0db 1khz and 0db 40hz test tones from the Smd website via bluetooth. The dd1 detects signal at around 15 and 40hz at 16, same for 1khz track. I kept going up on volume and the dd1 could not detect any distortion for both tracks 1 and 2 test tones. My head unit max volume is 24. I also made sure each zone volume limiter was set to 24 as well. I also have a JL Rd 1500 amp with 2 subs, I did not test that yet since I've been trying to figure out what's going on? What am I doing wrong? or could it be my Deck is distortion free, which I doubt.
