  1. I need help guys! Is there anyway possible someone could draw me up something on sketchup or something similar for two skar ma-8, they are recommended 1 cuft per sub tuned to 35hz, I have no real experience designing boxes and all help would be greatly appreciated
  2. So I have an 1987 toyota Pickup/Hilux, regular Cab 2wd with a 5 speed transmission in it, was wondering if anyone knows if there is a prefab sub-box for behind the seat. Have a small wedge in there right now on a Clarion 10" sub, yes it isn't the most powerful thing out there that would fit but it was 100$ and it shakes the truck, but the box pushes into the seat a little making it not the most, comfortable ride ever. Great little A-B truck but not really the long road hauler I am looking for. Was wondering if anyone knew of a box or by chance has a box just laying around that fits right over the center trans tunnel in the cab. There is also the factory jack location as well but can easily remove that. looking for something that can fit a 10" piston sub. On an MB Quart FX1.700 amp. Power the sub nicely with extra in it if I ever want to upgrade. -Audio system- Pioneer head unit (bought used) Rockford prime 4" dash speakers Rockford prime 6X9 with boxes behind the seat Generic wedge box for 10" sub 10" Clarion piston sub MB Quart FX1.700 amp -Little demo of the system- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhH7x8_XszQ
  3. I'm currently trying to run an 18" DJ subwoofer in my car but it sits at 8ohms and is a single voice coil sub. Is there any way to lower the impedance to 4ohms by jumping a wire from the negative to positive terminal? Not sure if this will hurt my amp and/or sub. Thanks in advance!
  4. Hi guy's , just bought a Brand new JVC DRVN 12inch (Black cone) , going to run at 4ohm as is a single voice coil , off a 250 rms jvc amp . Please help me design a box !!! 5. This will be my first post here on the site. Im currently running the American bass xfl 12" subs in a q bomb pro box off a hifonics brz 2400.1 with a red top under the hood in a 95 Avalon. So I need help designing a box where my subs face the rear but my port is facing the cab. I want the port in the center bc I want it blowing through the "arm rest hole" of the back seat. I will be posting a few drawing of what I have drawn up. no measurements yet, just ideas im playing with. This box I've designed is an L shaped ported box with the port in the back. what do you guys think??? will it work?? *******The blue represents the air flow. I also drew braces in the back....
  6. Ok, so I've seen The band pass box left and right. Even built a few. But I need to shove 4 memphis c3 subs in the trunk of a 90s caprice. I would love to make this guy happy by facing the subs to the rear in the center, and firing the port up at te rear deck. With modifications to the rear deck obviosly. I've built some good systems that hit over the years, but I've always wondered what these boxes sound like. I have a slot port in my truck with one twelve, no big deal building a normal box. So my question is do I have to change anything in the box to fire the port straight up at the back of the box and do they sound good?
  7. Hey guys, im making a box for home theater purposes, and since it has a 0.51 qts, im thinking about 15-16 cubic feet after displacement, tuned to 15, 20 or 25 hz. What do you think for tuning? for home stuff, i was told big enclosures and super low tuning [like, under 25 hz] Edit: im doing a slot port
  8. Hi guys so basically I was wondering if I could use the SMD sunflash alone and on its own (no matting no paint) on the outside of my box to offer protection from the elements of rain ice and snow or if I should just use some standard polyurethane for this? I'm not very familiar with paint products but if I did use the Sunflash resin over the polyurethane my understanding is that there is no mixing required, it is ready to be applied straight out of the can but I do have a few questions/concerns regarding its use... (1)should I sand or prep the smooth MDF wood prior to applying the first coat of resin? (2)should I lightly sand the resin between coats? (3)how many coats should I apply for it to withstand direct exposure to water and moisture? (4)is it best to be rolled or brushed on? (5)how much will a gallon cover on average (6)Lastly does this stuff tend to dry clear or cloudy? Thanks to everyone who took the time to address my needs here and offer any tips experience or advice all input is greatly appreciated!
  9. Hi everyone, For some reason my custom made sub box for my 1x sundown zv3 12" dual 2ohm from my local car audio installer sounded not as ok as I think it would. I suppose you can say it hits some bass notes (frequency) pretty well but some just unbearable or missing or can't be heard or weak. For example: when i play lil wayne 6ft 7ft its good but when I play something like yg - who do you love. the intro onwards is just weak (shouldn't say weak but seems semi-missing or should i say not hitting maybe) Anyhow my low bass setup: skar 1500.1 setting 90hz LPF , phase 0, bass boost 0, subsonic about 32hz can't really tell as its extremely hard to tell where its at, gain set with multi meter at about 39 (1500 square root) Sub - single SD 12 zv3 dual 2ohm Most importantly the box: 17W x 14H x 22D MDF 0.75 - port 2" with port length18" L1 + 8.5"L2 should be at 32hz ( I did used the RE calculator but human error could happen) I don't know why this is happening but I did try to put the subs in my 1.75cu box it sounded boomier but bass were not that clean) but its still better than missing or unable to hear. Note : car BMW e60 520i 2003 with ski hole cut should i just have another box build? By the way i'm looking for best in both world SPL & SQ. your valuable inputs is very much appreciated SImon
  10. Hoping some of you can offer some insight or first hand experience. I blew my Rockford R1200 amp so I decided to go bigger and just got a crescendo bc3500. Planning on an xsd3400 under the hood, and maybe an alternator depending on what voltage looks like during testing. I've been somewhat out of the game for a while so I need help deciding what subs to throw this kind of power at. GOALS: 2 10" drivers 2.5 - 3 MAX cubic feet box Musical but with authoritative lows (will be using them primarily for electric funk hippie rave music, rap, and soft rock) Reliability/durability to handle 3k+ (on 2) Subs will be in the boot firing in to the cabin and probably sealed off with some form of ghetto hackjob. So far I've looked at the Sundown X, SSA Xcon, SQ HDC3, and Crescendo Contralto, they all look good from reviews, but I haven't modeled any yet though. I'm sure i'm missing some beefy 10's out there in the 1500-2000 rms range, help me decide! P.S. no idea what my old username was, havent been on any forums in years so I might look new but I promise I'm not
  11. I'm not a pro in this area so please be patient. I recently had my sub installed at a shop in my area along with an amp and a lc7i. Whenever I crank the volume up I get this low rumbling sound from the sub. It makes this noise even when there is no bass in the music I'm listening to (i.e. intro, outro). However, it doesn't make this noise while the music is paused. When I looked in my trunk i noticed that they ran all of my signal cables with my power and ground, so I figure there's a ground issue. I went back to have it looked at and the guy told me that since my car is so small it will make that noise due to the amount of bass that I have, and if it was in the trunk of a small car instead of the back of an suv I wouldn't hear it. None of this sounds correct to me, am I correct in assuming that he was just being lazy? I also noticed that my bass knob does not turn my amp all the way off. When the knob is all the way down I can still hear my sub, just at a much lower volume. Is this normal? Oh yeah, due to my sub being a 2ohm and my amp not being 1ohm stable I am forced for now to operate at a 4ohm load. This is only pushing 750 watts to a sub that 1100 watts is recommended for. The instructions say that I can safely power it with 500-1200 watts rms. Could this be a contributing factor? 2009 BMW X3 single Kicker Comp Q 15 Kicker ZXS1500.1 Audiocontrol LC7i
  12. Does anyone know if wiring one jl audio 13w7-Dual 1.5 ohm can be wired to one ohm on an amplifier? And if so does anyone know where i can find a wiring diagram?
  13. SO... I have been wondering about this for a while... Right now I've got a Kenwood KAC-8105d monoblock amplifier pushing my one JL 12w6v2. This amplifier pushes 300w Rms at 4 ohm and 500w Rms at 2 ohm. the sub can handle 600 watts Rms. Right now it is set to almost full blast and i feel it can be louder.. because its not that loud. The amp gets pretty warm I think its either because Its up too high or my sub is too much for it. Ive been wondering about upgrading. I wanna get a Kenwood KAC-9105d. It pushes 500w Rms at 4 ohm and 900w at 2 ohm. I know 900 is too much but I will have it tuned lower so It doesnt blow the sub and so its more then 500 Rms. Is this a good idea or??? is there any other amps out there that push around 600 rms at 2 ohm??? i can get the kenwood off SonicElectronix.com for $175. Thats a good deal!!! anyways.. any suggestions would be helpful. 14. Is an amp without the subsonic feature a bad amp? Just wondering if using an amp without subsonic is potentially harmful.
  15. I am looking for more tracks to fill out my flash drive, because my Ipod stopped working and I have a little extra space now because my flash drive is larger, and I would like some more choices. I love deep bass, and almost anything agressive, but I also like some chill and emotional stuff, but with a focus on 808 and sub in general in the nice 30 - 50 ranges usually. (Im not really a fan of like chop and screw or decaf versions of tracks) Stuff I really like (just a few tracks in each category): Rap: Corey Gunz ft Wayne - 6 foot 7, Run the Jewels - Legend Has it, Rob $tone - Chill Bill Metal: Meshuggah - Like everything they've ever done, Vildhjarta - Same, Oceano - Depths Electrap: R.L. Grime - Core, GTA - Hard House, Denzel Curry - Threatz ft. Yung Simmie & Robb Bank$ (Ekali & Gravez Remix) Dubstep: SPL and Triage - Valhalla, Mantis - Hood Shit VIP, 4B x Holly - Juice Chill: Bauuer - GoGo!, Lorn - Anvil, Beach House - Wishes Breakcore: Igorrr - Absolute Psalm, Venetian Snares - Ultraviolent Junglist, BongRa - Sick Sick Sick! 80's: Duran Duran - Union of the Snake, Depeche Mode - The Policy of Truth, The Cars - Let the Good Times Roll Girls in the car: Various popular rap, The Decemberists, The Mountain Goats, Kimya Dawson, Etc.. So anybody have any go to's in these genres that you love and that I might like?
  16. here is my setup in the way of bass. 2X Jl Audio 12w6v2 1200/1 HD amp Does anyone know if it is possible to get the full 600 watt rms to each of the subs? The person ho installed said that it isn't possible because the amp is only 1.5 ohm stable or something like that. Any JL Audio people out there that can help me out? Im getting maybe 400 watts to each sub and one of them just blew. I am thinking that may have had something to do with it being underpowered?? Thanks

  18. Hey SMD! awhile back i posted a thread about coil rub on one of my level 5s. i purchased a reconethrough Cj. but never reconed the sub. i just kept playing on it with the SD8k, then on the k12. i first started noticing this "clanking" sound a couple weeks back when i was demoing a couiple people at a local shop. before i left, i played a song, My shit bang- e-40, i totally forgot that there is a very low note in the song, i broke a dustcap on one sub, and blew off the other. the note was extremely low. after the most recent show i attened, i gave a couple demos, but by the time i was to be metered, the "clanking" noise became louder and output seemed to be less. now its really bad. recone time? heres a vid to help describe the noise. and heres some pic:

  21. Hello, I want to run 2 PSI platform 1 12s on 2k, my voltage does not dip below 12.8 so i will be getting right around rated. I have a screenshot to show the upgrades, Biggest box i can fit is 34"wide 15" tall and 23" in length I would like for the box to be tuned so i can play slowed bass songs about as low as 26hz if the small space i have will allow it I would like a slot port design with the subs and port on the same side (center port) Thanks for looking and hopefully you can help me out! -Mike-
  22. i need someone who will teach me how to calculate and tune ports correctly, so if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated!
  23. Hey guys, I Currently have a slot ported box (my first build) wich doesnt look that nice becuase i made a mistake during the build and i think with a new box i'm gonna get more spl and sq. I'm going for a "SQL" build so i was planing on rebuildig a box and trying out some aeroports instead so i've just come here to ask your oppinion on the desing and port placement and such and maybe recommend a tuning for me? also should i have the subs fire in to car or the ports? Anyhow the car im working on is a 02 bmw 328ci (coupe) so space is Really limited but i got the last box in and its way bigger then what im planing on making this time. also my first post and will follow up on the build later. 24. I'm looking for suggestions for a 12" sub-woofer with the following specs: 500-1000 watt RMS, I have a ported box tuned to 32 hz, listen to 20-70 hz music range, dubstep, rap music daily, NOT for competitions, but with SPL still as important a factor as SQ, $200-$300 range per sub. I've looked really hard at Sundown SA12, DC Audio Level 3, Soundqubed HDC3, American Bass HD. Almost everytime I think I've made my decision, I find a "spec" that is better on another brand. I fear I am over thinking it now, and feel more lost than I was when I began my search! I'm not looking to build a 10k watt system, so I feel, at the price range I'm looking for, I should be getting a pretty "high end" sub. Not top of the line maybe, but VERY far from a starter sub. Any other brands I should look into? Or suggestions that narrow the ones I've already listed? With SPL, SQ, build quality, and customer service all being very important factors. Thanks guys, and gals if applicable.
  25. I'm going to be building a box for my 1996 Honda Civic EX, and it's going to be tuned to ~32Hz. My sub is a sundown audio SD-12 D2. The question: If i have a single sub like this in a not so big box, should i be fine without baffles or bracing? I also don't fully understand what those things are... So anyone who can explain those would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. -Dylan
