  1. 2000 Chevy S10 V6 Running the stock 105 amp alternator and Duralast Gold battery with 1/0 big 3 Alpine CDA-9857 head unit Alpine Type R components in the doors
  2. Decided to make a seperate thread for this build as it does not really have anything to do with my current big build here: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/159860-the-roadmonster-wagon-build-6th-order-bandpass-success/ here are the posts from that thread: 6th Order Bandpass Enclosure for Alpine Type R 12 So, for my first side project! I recently aquired an Alpine Type R 12 very cheap. Came in an OBCON vented box. Decided to have some fun with it. I've always wanted to try a 6th order, and this is the perfect time since I'm waiting for the good stuff. At first I was planning on building an ABC box but decided to give a 6th order a chance (can always convert it to an abc later.) My goal is to get good response from 20hz to 60hz+. According to winisd, this box design should meet those requirements. Here is the response graph compared to a standard 40hz ported box: This is the fun part. The cone excursion graph is the fun part. 1000watts and keeping control down to 22hz! Quick sketchup. Model not finished, but it gives you an idea of the layout. Wood is cut and ready, I'll be working on assembling it tonight. 2 4" precision ports per side, externally mounted. Rear chamber ports will be around 33" long and front chamber will be around 15"

High wattage 1 ohm budget amp

I have 2 12 inch alpine type rs. Dual 4 ohm voice coil and currently theyrw hooked up to my kenwood kac9006d 2 channel amp. The subs are wired indipendantly of eachother from the amp so the amps max 1k watts at 2 ohm is only sending 500 to each sub. I honestly think my system was just as loud when i had the full 1k going to only 1 sub. So im looking for a 2k+ watt amp that is stable at 1 ohm for around $300. Im only going to run the amp at about 1800 watts so 2000 or larger is fine. Ive been looking at the hifonics brx3016.1d amp.. is this any good? Or should i look at others? Im also upgrading my stock alternator to one around 250-300 amps after i buy the new amplifier so power shouldnt be too big of an issue.. any suggestions?
  4. I have an f150 crew cab and im building a flow through center console for my two alpine typr r 12s. My max dimensions are 13.5 wide and 30.25 long till the back seat but it will come up over the middle of the back seat. I wanna keep it around 17-18 inches tall cause it will serve as an armrest too. The subs will most likley be down firing and im gonna do the port in the area over the back seat. However i know absolutly nothing about ports and since it is a somewhat weird shape none of the box calculators are acurate. Any help on the port design/size will be appriciated. Also, how do you post pics on here so i can show a drawing of what im thinking about doing
  5. im building an SQL set up with a single 12 for my daily. im stuck between 2 subs. dayton Ultimax http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-um12-22-12-ultimax-dvc-subwoofer-2-ohms-per-coil--295-512 OR Alpine type S or R 12" R: http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/swr-12d4/ S: http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/sws-12d2/ i will only be running 500rms for the sub as i plan to get the alpine PDX-V9 amp http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/pdx-v9/ ill be running Alpine SPR-60C in all 4 doors http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/spr-60c/ ive owned and heard the new type r's before and they are great in a good box but when entering some info into winisd pro it shows the dayton will have a much smoother gain and much better low end compared to the alpine. but reqires a 3.5ft^3 box to do so... Dayton is orange 3.5ft^3 dual 3" aeros 15.5" long each tuned at 24.9Hz Alpine Type R is Yellow 2.0ft^3 dual 3" aeros 16.5" long each tuned at 32Hz
  6. Alright ive been thinking about this and i want to build a box with two alpine type r 15s and i want them to be on top of the box and the port go across the bottom I have dimensions of w40, h22, d20 which comes out to 8 cubes i need to know how i should make the port depth and width cause im getting so confused on these port and box calculator websites i want it tuned from 28-33 htz i just need help with that and i want to make sure the box will fit in the back of my 97 ford explorer xlt 4 door
  7. So I'm looking for some dimensions for building a box for two alpine type r's dual 2 ohm there 750 rms each but im trying to build it for a 1997 ford explorer xlt 4 door i dont want to build a huge box because i have to be able to fit it in a car to take it to the explorer but i want it to have a bigger port then it calls for some people where telling me i should make it 8 cubes but that is way to big this is my offroad toy im putting it in only drive it in the winter time and on trails so im gonna use L brackets to hold the box down i have a rockford t1500 that im hooking them up to i just need help with what i should kind of box I should build i heard birch is good wood but im in a budget with this build so need some help
  8. Hi im building a box for 2 alpine type r 15s dual 2 ohm and a rockford fosgate t1500 and i want the box to have a bigger port then the type rs are recommended and for it to sound good i need help with how big i should make the box
  9. After designing 2 different slot ported boxes for my Type R's, I have trashed the ideas of a slot port after reading about Aeroports. I have designed another box on Torres and believe this is the best one, and the one I'm going to stick with, just looking for a second opinion or any suggestions! Measurements are just for one half, I will mirror it for the other side/sub. Subwoofer Specs: Alpine SWR-12D2 12" Dual 2 ohm (wired parallel to 1 ohm) 1000 RMS 3000 Peak Amp Specs: Pioneer GM-D8601 Class D Mono 800 RMS @ 1 ohm 1600 Peak @ 1 ohm Box Specs: 13"H x 24"W x 16"D Single Port per Chamber Port Diameter: 4" Port Length: 13" Gross Volume: 2.17 Cubic Feet per Chamber Sub Displacement: .10 Cubic Feet Port Volume: .11 Cubic Feet Port Area: 12.56 Cubic Inches Net Area: 1.96 Cubic Feet Tuning Frequency: 32.92 Hz Open to any suggestions! Thanks for any and all help!
  10. I am new to the site, and I'm looking to build a box for two Alpine Type-R 12D-4 subs. I'm running them on an Alpine MRX-M100 have have enough max space for a 42" long, 15" tall, 18" deep box. What type of ported build would be best for these subs?
  11. Hey i have a few questions about 4th order for my hatch. Was at the pawn shop and they were selling two of the new type r 12" for $120... couldn't pass it up. they have a couple small cracks in the cone but both play as they should. As far as design, doing 2cu^ft sealed and 5cu^ft ported 4th order, my questions are as followed. For the two 12's i should have around 80sq inches of port correct. So if i did a 9"x9" port it would be 14.13" long for 45hz tuning. Should i face port toward the roof? Or you think there would be added gain to kerf port toward the rear (cabin gain possible?) Any input is appreciated, ive always ran ported boxes, this would be my first attempt at a 4th order. set up 1991 civic hatch (work car mpg+) jvc head unit 6.5" focal component in front Have two 12" alpine type r (new style) getting Hifonics 2200wrms cea compliant (i know there are haters...) plan on running 800wrms to each sub, want to have room to play with if i change subs in the future. Putting two pairs of 4" speakers up front to help. Focals sound amazing with one sub but i know they wont be able to keep up with the increase in power and addition of another sub
  12. I recently purchased a 2007 Volvo S60R and a Silver Alpine type R 12 inch. I was wondering what would be the best way to get very low end Bass. The stock system is plenty good (6, 8 inch subs, 4, 4 inch mids, 4, 1 inch tweets, and a center 4.5) I just wanted some more low end bass to complete it. Not 100% sure what the lowest the stock goes but I can definetly feel and see the car flex with the low note on "put on". So what is a good way to go about the box. cubic feet, ported, sealed, or bandpass, material? I do not have an amp yet, but I will as soon as I finalize my plans for a box. If you need any info for help I will do what I can.

    Alpine Amp / Sub combo?

Ok guys, I currently have a spare amp I'm wanting to put to good use; Alpine MRX-M50 (500w RMS @ 2 Ohm, or 300w RMS @ 4 Ohm). I'm wanting to power one of these sub combo's below in a sealed box on a 2 ohm load. x2 Alpine Type-S 10" 10D2 2 Ohm (300-500w RMS rated) ... OR ... x1 Alpine Type-R 10" 10D4 4 Ohm (300-1000w RMS) Would either of these choice's be an ideal match without having too much strain on the amp's output causing it to under-power them. Thanks in advance.
  14. I'm looking to build a big ported box for 2 alpine type r 10 1042D.. I have a 3000 watt bassinferno amp.. I'm putting them n a 98 blazer 4 door with a drop tail gate.. I want at least 1 cubic ft of air space per sub.. I think subs faced up and big port at bottom of box at the tail gate.. But what ever is best for deep bass.. I only have one hooked up now in a ported box and it sounds good for what it is.. If u have any ideas or specs let me know
  15. So here's whats going on: 2 - Alpine Type R 15's (SWR-1522D) 1 - Alpine MRX-M240 Laser Etched Plexiglass w/LED lighting. Separate Chambers for each sub roughly 4 Cubic Ft. each Sky High Car Audio 8 Gauge Speaker Wire This box was built for a friend, it took us about one month to build but it was only really about 7 days of actually working because we were mostly only able to work on weekends. Had a few problems here and there but all in all it turned out well. It is going into a 2003 Denali Yukon XL. This build was done by me and PortSideAudio.
  16. Hey everyone. Long time lurker first time poster. You guys have really helped me out in the past so thank you. You will have to excuse me for my n00bness. I have been searching for a while on here and I have not found all the answers I am looking for. Actually I am a lot more uncertain than before I started searching. Which is good instead of me building a box I won't like. I am attempting my first box build. I have only used prefab in the past. I have been trying to find the best setup/dimensions for my situation. I ordered a single Alpine Type R 12" SWR-12D4 and an Alpine MRP-M500 for it. It will be wired @ 2Ohms. Yes I know it is half the rated RMS power for the sub but I have plans on my electrical upgrade but it will be some time before that happens. At that point I will add another R and the proper power for them. Also this will be going in an old body style Suburban (1998) so I have plenty of room so no max dimension restrictions for the most part. I listen to a little bit of everything and prefer a ported enclosure over sealed. Mostly Hip Hop and Metal. I like it low but would really like a fuller range for daily listening to several genres. I like SQ but lean towards SPL. I know I can't have both but would like it loud but not just sound horrible (I know their tradeoffs). I feel a box tuned to ~35Hz would be optimal from what I have read here. I found this info and feel it is close to what will fit the bill but shortened the port length to tune it a little higher than the original config of the post. Here is what I came up with. Click for Full My concern is will this be optimal to get the most out of the sub with this particular amp in the amount of cabin space I have? I had an Alpine Type X and MRX-M100 in this same truck at one point but in a prefab box. It sounded good but I know it could have sounded a lot better in a correctly tuned box. This time around I want to get it right. Is there something I am missing or any suggestions that would perform better? Here is the SWR-12D2 specs recommended from Alpine: Click for Full Thanks in advance for any help.
  17. I still have this truck but no longer use it. Just waiting to sell it to the right person. It started out with 20 american racing torque thrust wheels then I moved up to 24s but after the tires were slashed I put some A/Ts on it and got some tow mirrors and gave it a different look. I thought it came out looking pretty good in both its phases. It also had a decent system… Used to be all alpine but slowly went through a couple different setups. Last one was 2 type r 12s in a mid gate box (the avalanche is ideal for this kinda setup because its basically got a bed cut out from the factory), hifonics brutus brz 1700.1, 2 sets of hifonics mercury 5.25s all around on a hifonics 4 channel, pioneer flip screen, clarion equalizer, power master 200amp alt, yellow top battery. Some of the other mods included: side exiting Cherrybomb extreme exhaust, gatorbacked cladding, custom built headlights (there was never aftermarket headlights made for the cladded avalanche so I retrofitted some projectors in my first set of housings then I got another set and custom mounted LED halo rings and some really bright led light bars in those), glow gauges (love how bright they are), interior lighting, the hood was redone after i had to body fill a dent, its only primered but it was going to follow the same paint scheme as the primer had, blacked grille and bow tie, interior trim painted, LED taillights, a few other small things. Heres it back a couple years ago leaving scrapin the coast with the Velocity 855-b 24's You can see here the retrofitted projector headlights in this one. Then came the new reflector oem housings which i dismantled to install halos. I started out with CCFLs which for those of you that don't know are the rings that don't use LEDs. They provide a much more uniform light but its nothing as bright as LED halos. So those came out and these went it: the LED rings Much much brighter - Oracle is probably the most popular brand for halo lighting but I cut corners and order rings from ebay for a grand total of $8. And let me tell you that was the greatest mod I ever did for cheap. They've been in my truck for over 2 years and not one LED has burnt out even though they're probably from china. I also went with some "Audi style" markers. Didn't want to use the cheap ass strips you see people decorate the front of their cars with so I got these "bars" with 3 SMD LEDs that have individual lenses over them to magnify the light Glow gauges You ever see 24s on a Honda CRX?

    custom sub box build

Hey everyone i am new to the site and forum i was wondering if anyone could help me out with any knowledge they have on the subject. I am building a custom build for my truck which is a 2000 silverado extended cab, and i cant find anything out there on what im looking for exactly. my goal is to build a ported box to specs for 4 Alpine 1043D subwoofers i would like the box to be ported and as loud as possible. I have a Rockford Fosgate t1500-1bdcp that is going to power the whole system and was wondering if anyone has any ideas on a box that would fit my truck preferably on the bench seat in the back but i can take the bench out if push come to shove please help out if you can. Thanks. 517 Audio
  19. Hello all, first post here on the forum. Needing a little help with a design for a ported enclosure. This will be my first ported enclosure build. Last week, i acquired two Alpine Type R 12s (SWR-1223D) dual 2 ohm voice coil..already in an Audio Enhancers brand pre-fab box from a kid for only $70 so it was a great deal! I have an Alpine MRX-M110 amp. First of all the box doesn't have enough airspace, it only has .92 cubic feet per chamber before displacement. Secondly, it is tuned to a whopping 43hertz! I got this info from their website. I mainly listen to rap, r&b, hiphop, alternative rock and a little pop. The subs are not performing very well on the low notes in the music im listening to so its got to go asap! I have a 95 blazer 4x4 4 door. I have room for 37.5" wide, 18' tall and 18" deep. I would like the new enclosure to have alot more airspace with a common chamber and common port, with a much lower tuning! Any and all help will be appreciated! Opinions and designs please?

    Best amp for my setup?

I have 2 12" Alpine Type R subs, they are dual 4 ohm subs rated at 1000 RMS each and right now have them on a cheap amp and they need more power. What kind of amp should I get that fits them the best? I see on most amps they say they are like 3k but they end up putting out about half that when they are tested, I need an amp that will give me true power. They will be put into a sub box I am building now that will be tuned to 33 hz. Let me know what would fit them the best.

    Need help with box.

I'm currently running two alpine type-R model SWR-1243Ds. I was wanting to build a box with the subs firing upwards and the port towards the rear. I'm going to be running a square port. I will be using a router and rounding the edges off and all around the box. I need help with some specs to build a box. the subwoofers specs are: Ideal Ported Volume: 1.5 ft^3/woofer Vas (liters): 38 Fs (Hz): 31 Qts: 0.53 Xmax (millimeters): 20 I listen to a good mixture of music; Rock, country, rap. Not much metal or anything. I'm thinking around 28-32Hz port tuning? I'm a pretty good builder but I really lack when it comes to the math involved with building speaker enclosures. I'm working with a '98 Ford Explorer Sport (the two door model explorer) I plan on using a sheet of MDF and raising the floor and running all wires and amps below the box with a plexi-glass cover over the amp. Any help with box and cut measurements would be awesome.

    Box Build Help!?!?

I just ordered two 12" Alpine Type R SWR-12D4 and a Hifonics Brutus Elite 2000.1. I need to build a box to fit in a 2000 Ford Taurus. I am fairly new to the car audio scene so I don't know how many hz to tune the box to or how hard it is. Just looking for a cut list and any suggestions on how I should build this.

    Need help with box

I need some help designing a box for my new subwoofers.I bought 2 Alpine Type R's 12inch(SWR-12d4, 5th gen) to replace my 1st gen type r's. I listen to mostly house/trance/dance music with the occasional rap. I am purchasing an AQ2200D amp to power the new subs(replacing my kicker kx600.1) The box can be 14 1/2 inches height and 34 inches wide. Thanks in advanced and happy holidays SMD members!
  24. Would it be possible to build a T-line box for 2 Alpine Type R 12? How big would it need to be, port area, etc. Has anyone done this, or have schematics?
  25. K-Swift

What kind of amp should I get?

I have two 12" Alpine Type R subs (the new ones rated at 1000 watts rms) and want to upgrade my amp. Right now I have a Bass Inferno BI3000DX. The subs are dual 4 ohm. I have them in a sealed box right now but will be upgrading that as well. I'm running on stock alt and battery for now and running 4 gauge wire to the box. Any suggestions on amps?
