SMD Double Din Head Unit Review

Recommended Posts

OK so I'm in the market for a double-din player. Now I am old school and set in my ways but, with becoming a father recently I have let go of some of that. I run Alpine in all my Chevy's. Since I went ahead and purchased a non-chevy based on statistics I am willing to purchase a stereo based on some of the key points:

QUALITY

FEATURES

ACCESSIBILITY

LONGEVITY

&

PRICE

I've done some online searches for double-din reviews and couldn't really find anything. Also did a search in SMD for one so I figure make a thread and label it right and hopefully this can be useful to others besides myself in the market. Thanks.

The "easy bypass for video in motion" is pretty important. I suggest making that a high priority, unless you wanna have a switch, or wire in a relay. It CAN be a pain in the rear, believe that!

And honestly, I'd stick w/ the Alpine. They just make such nice HU's, and I'm sure their d dins are really nice too.

I run a Clarion, which I really like. BUT, I had to run a switch.

I have personal use with a Pioneer AVH-4200dvd which is identical to my 5200 flip out

Price point $400ish

3 sets of 4 volt preouts

8 band EQ I believe

Vert fast USB and iPhone/ iPod interface

Rear USB and 3.5mm so you just have 7"s of screen in your dash. Very few actual buttons to clutter the screen. Very easy to see display even in direct sunlight. Screen is very responsive. Not much of a delay and no weird click here but it opens something else..

My vote atleast but I haven't used any other double dins.
