The Big Oki's Ground Pounder

Recommended Posts

Thanks again for the props.

For explaination, my first education

after school was becoming a mechanical toolmaker.

That requires that your a perfectionist and have a closer look on the little thingis :)

After that I became a certified designer for products and grafics.

(Never got an employment, just worked formyself and the "Hobby")

Anyhow, everybody can do everything with a little practice.

Just dont give up.

And this posting is another big bummer what took me some time to write,

but its a pleasure for me to share... (But please dont expect that every day :) )

I found some pics about my Kicks.

As I said, no miracle. It looks like a box in a Street car.

Looks like a lousy simple box, but MILLIONS and ZILLIONS of hours testing.

These ones were built in 2001 !

For my first SQPL car, the Ü2. They fit almost in all of my

cars til today. But I have three sets with different speakers.

Once I hit 143 dB on the old Audio Control with music

and one Zapco Studio 500 on each side. It makes your

ears ringing, but just after turning down the music.

You dont feel pain, but it damages already your hearing.

But its clear, and is able to win SQ competition, at least it WAS :)

I use Andrian Audio speakers, a german brand. Anselm, Developer is

a veeery good friend of mine. (BTW hes an american native)

Had Sonys budget compo systems in the other pair, sounded good also.

These ones are usually made out of a material mix

do have different resonant frequencies what kill each

other. Its Ureol, beech and birch, plywood, small

parts of MDF and fiberglass. Also some dampening paste inside

and filling material. For highs I use Tweeters with ventings.

Posted Image

They requiere a volume what I give them as about 150-200ml

in form of a sphere. Sounds the best in my eyes/ears.

Also the parts of the passive x Overs are to determine.

Takes WEEKS sometimes. Usually I use a mix between active and passive x overs.

What I DONT use is Time Delay. I have it, its ok, but with my speaker

arrangements its not neccessary ! I may test a little in the new car with

the cool Zapco DSP, bc. I want it to do :)

I often use a pair of "Center Tweeters". But theyre sometimes difficult to

position and to tune so that they help to complete the soundstage.

Part Two (I knew I post too much...)

Next set will be made out of special material. Harder than Diamonds.

Project for next year. Speakers will be from my actual sponsor,

Radical Audio. EVERYTHING with Neodymium, like my woofers then.

And amps are all digital :)

Its a 12 liter (0,4 cu ft³) sealed enclosure what has

4 5,25" on each side. I also have a 2 Liter sealed one what is placed

between the legs ! Dont laugh, I made some SQ competitors MAD with that !

Sounds great and uses the reflections of the window.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I always tell the ladies when I give them a SQ demo : Spread your legs and have fun ! :)

Posted Image

THEY HAVE ! If built in properly, it can look awesome. Some friends of mine did.

Must find pictures. Tweeters are placed wherever they sound good.

Sometimes also between your legs or somewhere on the dash, just test it

with closed eyes to position them. Then glue em down hehe.

And dont give a Sh!t if somebody says it looks weird. But it sounds great.

As soon as the clear sound will reach their ears, they will forget the look immediately !

And if we are honest, its all about the MUSIC !

Some germans who read here also (btw. SERVUS ! :) ) will see my setups

as "old hats" , bc. most of them already know them :)

These are some kickpanels what are made by friends of mine from Austria.

I promised to try them and was satisfied. Name of the brand is "PanX".

They build them for several car models. Very solid, good work also.

Put some 6,5" in from Anselm and had fun and more space for my

feet :) Use them from time to time.

(Changing speakers and amps for me is like changing underwear,

but guess what I change more often hahaha)

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

You also can see the sphere enclosure made out of stainless steel.

Friend of my adopted my idea of placing the speakers where they work the best.

Heres one result of a VEEERY good sounding car in "SQPL" manner !

My friends CRX with, of course, Strokers , Andrian Audio Mid Highs and Zapco Amps.

Dont laugh, it looks really weird but slabs you in the face...

(BTW, I FIND that the good old Strokers are the best sounding subs still,

what are capable to produce real high levels, I LOVE THOSE OLD FARTS !)

When competing at Euopean Springbreak in SQ with my Ü2,

it was required to run through the RTA Lane. I got the Audio Control

from a friend of mine, played around about 15 Minutes and got 19 of 20 points.

That was enough for the work :) Regardless of that, I dont like flat RTA curves.

I always listen different, and I am glad that the SQ organisations here

saw that and cancelled the RTA measuring in competition.

The old RF Symmetrie was a very good helper for that hehe.

Happy Part 3

Here, the one day (!!!) installation what got almost

best of sound of one show and beat a very expensive install.

Took DAYS (believe me or not) to find the right position

for the little panels to make a perfect and deep soundstage.

But it worked more well than some people would have thought.

(Especially my SQ opponents hahaha)

Its an old Zapco Studio 50/4 amp WITHOUT power supply.

Just IC Amplifier with 4 times 12,5 Watts at 4 Ohms and I

dont even used all channels haha. Put my Stroker Unibandpass

http://f23.parsimony.net/forum50149/messages/23694.htm

onto the one channel for sub. Was about 8 watts. Together with 1st place

in sound quality, I won my ESPL Class and was 2nd loudest of the day,

with one Stroker 18 and 8 watts... (Ok, just SQ Fuzzies participatet at the ESPL ).

When I came back from the competition at 1 in the morning, I took everything out again, LOL.

I also made doorboards and so on, but stuck on the

sealed, interchangeable kicks. I am small anyways, so that I have

no pain with such big things close to my feet.

Posted Image

Posted Image

In the TÜRANN so far are just speakers in the OEM placings.

One 8" in each door and one tweeter under the grill.

Just powered by a 9.0 in Full Range Stereo. It sounds good,

but just can keep up to a given level, what is understandable.

I can put also my old 2001 kickpanels in and then, with over 1000 Watts

on each side, the cow starts to fly :) You see, these are the 6 year old

kickpanels what still fit almost perfect into a total different car.

Its like a LEGO System (I used to play with that as a child, if I am honest,

I STILL play with it sometimes LOL)

Here some door/kickboards and solutions of my other, recent, cars

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

So you see, no real big deal over here.

And because I spent so much time in research to find the best result,

I kept these Kickpanels for YEARS now ! No need to build more and more.

No waiste of time and money, just Joy and Fun and LOUD MUSIC !

PS.:Timothy, man, when I see my Babyface now...

I have lost almost 40 pounds since then. Still

have "Belly Rings" but I feel much better now :)

PS2.: Randy, I still have the little duck sitting close to me...quack quack...

PS3.: After looking for intall pics the WHOLE DAY yesterday

(heck I have no time) I think it will make more sense with

an own section or it will be too much for one thread here, hehe...

PS4.: Regarding the "Storyteller" thing, yes, unfortunately I talk

like a waterfall if the day is long. The pro is that I have no

real secrets bc I tell everything, if you want to hear it or not, hahaha.

The contra is, that most people get bored after a few lines...

But thanks also, I try to let everyone participate on my doings,

so that you feel like being there. And as we are all adults,

(almost all), everybody can choose to read my novells , or not :)

Hey BigO :)

yes, I guess I can do a lot of things here, hehe.

But also I have to take care that its not too much...

As it looks that the thread looks messy with all the mixed things,

(basically the typical look of my postings haha)

it will make sense with the own section. Then I can post pics

of almost everything around me haha.
