Lexus IS-F - Figs Engineering Rear Control Arms **UPDATE PAGE 4 - upgraded supports, Painted BLUE!

Recommended Posts

Steve, which tires did you have on it when you did the doughnuts visible from space? Is this your 2nd or 3rd set of tires?

Proper suspension geometry FTW!

I know quite a bit about racing suspension geometry. My suspension designs set a few track records. Including South & North West Tour. Even set the track record at Daytona. Bobby Allison was having serious chassis problems early in the season 1987. His chassis guy purchased my software to setup the chassis. They were desperate and had heard of the amazing results people were getting in South West Tour. They set the car up as instructed and took the car to the next race, never touched the suspension. It was like a some kind of brand new super car. Several races later he went to Daytona and set the track record. He won the Firecracker 400 BTW.

Unfortunately I didn't have access to a wind tunnel or he would have gone a whole lot faster. Aero at that point became the weakest link by far. The car was going so much faster that it was pushed into unknown territory with regard to aero stability and dynamic chassis loading. The increased speed lead to unfamiliar tire loading which caused a tire failure and his infamous crash a few races later at Talladega. Watch Car 22.

Have you thought about upgrading your rear sway bar endlinks to spherical rod links like your control arms have? Or is that not really necessary with the coil overs and control arms? Still looking good......

  • 1 year later...

If you haven't already, ISF owners who lower will also want to consider front camber adjustment to get it to sit right just like the rears.

http://shopfigs.com/v1/index.php?route=product/product&path=43&product_id=197

I have the above, plus their essential lowering kit installed on mine. So far, so good. Set to slightly more aggressive than stock ISF specs.

  • 1 year later...

UPDATE: I heard Figs had a new rear control arm available, redesigned with some extra reinforcements. The new ones come with a support bracket up top and a few small gussets in key places. Mine were ok but getting a bit old so i didn't want to take any chances.. Combined with the fact i always regretted not getting blue one's, i decided to get my hustle on. I called up Figs and explained that i wanted the new ones, but completely bare bones, no powder coat, no paint, no mounting accessories. Just the arms with the new upgrades. He was willing to take mine and upgrade them for me but my car would be down and i didn't want to do that. My plan is to buy new ones (and he gave me a good price), paint them next door at the body shop, reinstall them, and THEN send my originals in for upgrades. When mine come back i will have them re-shot and then sell them. In the end, it will have cost me very little (so long as i can sell mine) and i will have the newest latest product.

So i did it and here it goes.

They arrived on Tuesday (yesterday) and wow, they really are bare! haha. But they look cool like this. I was VERY tempted to just clear coat them and call it done. But i really have my heart set on blue (to match my brakes).

I call up Jay and say "hey, my arms are in, can you paint tonight and have ready in the morning?" As usual, he is like "hell ya no problem"...and that is what i love about the guy. Jay, if you are looking (probably not) but if you are, THANK YOU BRO you know i appreciate it!!

So we let that dry for the night......and about 9am when i got to the shop, i picked them up! Now THAT is SERVICE!!!! Jay is the MAN!!! And my landlord who owns the body shop is the man for having such a great place and letting us use it after hours.

For those that are wondering, no that is not an H pipe. That is actually just support. It doesn't flow through that. There is however an X pipe in front of it.

The blue looks so much better!!

Shit I wish I lived in that area, after a couple years that underbody still looks new. One winter in my area the underbody looks like it went through and acid bath with all this damn salt on the roads...

it looked even CLEANER than that until recently. I wipe down the undercarriage and the insides of the wheels about once a month. But when me and the wife took the ISF to Tahoe for our anniversary, i was greeted with salty roads. So yes, one day in the salty roads is all it took to make it look NASTY underneath. Right now it looks fairly clean but it really isn't as nice as i like to keep it. Not bad for 45,000 miles though :)
