Babyjuice Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 just got a new muffler installed on my 03 v10 and moved the exhuast forward and added a 6" tip...the muffler is a custom designed muffler from mufflerman in O.C. I got it done today and it seems like I'm getting worse gas mileage then before(I had a gibson catback performance muffler)..could it be that the muffler isn't giving the engine the right back pressure? Or does it take a little bit for the engine to get used to a new muffler? Also it kind of smells weird..but idk if its because of the new muffler? And suggestions on what it could be? Quote BABYJUICE
bassrace Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 I Dont think the engine will get used to it, if its not right call the company and tell them Quote 145.9@40hz 145.3@34hz big 3 X2 group 34 Deka Group 31 All 0/1 awg jl meta wire Alpine CDA 7894 Orion HCCA D5000 2 AQ HDC312's Crunch gpv1100.2 (for 6.5"s only) AQ pro audio 6.5" - 3 sets AQ supertweeters - 2 sets 2000 Slamry
Ecco Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 I think it's the muffler. I have a feeling that it doesn't need to 'get used to it'. I guess see if it has gotten better, or else call the manufacturer and let them know. also, see if it's a common occurrence.. Quote
OrionStang Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 If the exhaust was 'custom' made, tell the builder about the issues you're having and that the design may need to be adjusted. What size is the piping from the exhaust manifold to this 6" tip? Quote SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread
Skullz Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 Are the O2 sensor's connected? Changing mufflers will usually have little impact on gas mileage but if other changes were made like removing the cat from the system than there is you problem. OrionStang Posted August 2, 2011 Report Posted August 2, 2011 I did some reading on a Ram forum and it seems these motors do like some back pressure. Most issues were power related, so I don't know about mileage. But most of these guys, even with engine mods, are running only 2.5-3" pipes back to 4" tips. So, pipe diameter could be it, or O2's like Skullz suggested. Quote SMD Super Seller My Feedback Thread

This could be a potential area to look into. Babyjuice Posted August 2, 2011 Author Report Posted August 2, 2011 Its 3.5 inch piping...and the cat wasn't removed either...its a high flow muffler. It goes headers to cat 2" piping to muffler to 1.5' to tip Quote BABYJUICE
