dbmonster
It's about time I finally get around to posting a build log over here. I'm in the planning stages of a big build in my escalade, but in the mean time I need something to compete with for the rest of this year, so I'm building my first ever "little" comp setup in my '96 civic hatch. I built a small setup just for daily listening a couple months ago, which was 2 Sa-8's on an AQ1200. I was really impressed with these "little" subs so I decided to keep them for my comp build and buy 2 more. the new build will be designed for spl, but will also be a daily setup so the new box will have an interchangeable port setup. the goal for this system is mid 140's on music. here is some pics and background of the car. I bought it back in February to have a clean gas saving daily driver. but just my luck the day after I bought it, the original motor blew up. so instead this car became an unexpected project car. here's the car a couple weeks after i bought it, sitting in my shop with a blown motor awaiting a transplant. the new motor before and after being freshened up and the new motor/tranny/ecu/etc swap complete (swapped from a stock d16y7 to a vtec d16y8 for a little more power) and this is how the car sits now And now on to the part you really care about I started out by making a sturdy floor for the box to sit on then made a simple amp rack to go on the back of the seats. amps mounted. aq1200 and aq4x90 new components for the front doors and 6x9's for the rear '05 escalade - now for sale '96 civic hatch - 4 Sundown SA-8's on an Aq2200d TL numbers coming soon '00 suburban - 4 AQ sdc2.5 15's on 2 Aq2200d's 153.1db @ 40hz / 150+db on music now retired
dbmonster
specs for the box box built Originally the plan was to wrap the box in the same red fabric as my headliner and door inserts, but while building the box a buddy suggested I should make a cardboard sub box as a joke, so I went with that lol this setup has been in the car for a little while now and I love it. I give demo's to friends every chance I get and nobody believes its just 2 little 8's until I pop the hatch open. I haven't got a chance to put it on the meter yet, but hopefully I'll get to before I take it out to start the new build. dwright27
I'd think about a driver side port along the bottom to try as well. Decaf
ur tuning is not accurate if u do not put in 3 for the common walls and baffle thickness needs to say .
dbmonster
yea I agree. I made the sketchup with the port on the right out of habit, but the box will fit with the port facing either side so I'll test to see which is louder. I thought about making the box wider and doing port up as well, but the length of the daily port would require an L bend which wouldn't work with the whole interchangeable ports idea. dbmonster
ur tuning is not accurate if u do not put in 3 for the common walls and baffle thickness needs to say .75 actually the port wont have any common walls, that's not the port in the skethup, just a whole the interchangeable ports will slide into. and whats in the baffle thickness box only makes a difference when you have double baffles as far as I can tell.
