RF T4000.1 burnt resistor?

the yellow things are tantalum capacitors.

Kind of looks to me either the MOSFET, resistor, or capacitor is cooked.

so if i replace all 3 of those the amp should work again? and where would i even get ones to match?

FETs would be the only component to produce the black residue when it fails.

Resistors would show a burnt ring around it and the cap should be fine.

It would be a great idea to replace all three. With one part failed, the others could be stressed.

Looks like the FET shorted or blew.

Look at the number on the other FETs around it and do a search on Digikey.com.

Look up "resistor color code" to find out what value the resistor is.

Or use a DMM and measure one of the other resistors.

Look at the printed number on the cap and look that up as well although its probably fine.

Not to rain on your parade, but the FETs should probably all be replaced... :ehh:

Different lots of FETs could have different series resistances.

More current will flow through the least resistance, so if the new part has a mis-matched resistance from the others then it could blow again...

call Rockford and see if they can fix it. You have no idea what you are doing and are going to mess it up worse then it already is. If RF cant do it, find a reputable company that can.

Just cause you can only see those 3 parts blown Doesnt mean thats all FETs should all be replaced in thst section

I was planning on calling rockford on monday. I just want to know why this happened to my amp.. what causes a MOSFET to get cooked? i never had a problem with this amp till i ran its first 1ohm load in my new car..

MOSFETs die from voltage drops and heat. Heat causes more resistance which means they use more power to put out the same amount of power as they were before. Voltage drop means they use more power to put out the same amount of power. Heat and/or voltage drop will rise as more power is used thus creating more heat/resistance/voltage drop and inducing a "cascading" effect until the parts burn out.

One part can be weaker than the rest and go out first, but often if you have been seeing overly large voltage drops then more than one mosfet may be on the edge of blowing up or may have blown up.

MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..."

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through.
