dual 12" type r box

Recommended Posts

I have two Type R 12's going in a box im making and was wondering if my volume and tuning are good. I did try to stay within the specs that came with my subs.

Here are the specs on the box im planning; H=15" W=32" D=20" V=4.41 ft cubed. after displacement of port and woofers its 4.01 @32Hz.

Also its dual ported with round ports 4" in diameter and 12.3" long.

How much power are you going to be running to these subs? And I'm by no means a box design master but I'm getting 5.51cft before displacement. Of course that's not considering what you're using for wood/bracing etc.

Also I believe displacement of the driver and ports would consume more volume that 1/2 a cube.

You are going to want about double the port are you have now.

I came up with 6 1/4 sq in/cu ft for the box. You want at least 10 per foot for aero ports

i believe something may have gone terribly wrong while using the box calculator

Trade some of that box volume for more port area. You only need about 3.5 cubes for two 12's.

i had a box made for me by davetheboxguy and its 4 cuft total internal and a 6" aero tuned to 32hz. he told me the 1 6 would be better than the 2 4s so try for that. i trust him over alot of ppl on here.

That's not all that great dude.. That's just over 6" per cube. He's right about it being better than two 4" ports, but still..

well i don know the exact dimensions on how long it is but the diameter is the aero is 6in. couldn't tell you the length. my box is roughly 20ish inches deep and it goes back most of the way into it so idk.

It's gonna be around a foot long. But the length isn't what determines your port area. Well, I guess it does slightly in the sense that it takes up box volume. But port area is the measured by width x height or the diameter with a round port. Just doesn't seem enough for me I guess..
