Overcoming cabin peak

Recommended Posts

Doing a build in a truck. I've tried many different boxes, small, big, tuned low, tuned high but no matter what the notes around 45 hz and up are pitiful. The low notes, low and sub 30 are the loudest.

So how can I fix this? Sure low notes are cool but playing all music is better than playing only super low stuff

its a 2002 chevy silverado

the rest of the info you requested is useless since we have this issue regardless of type of sub, number of subs, size of subs, box, tuning, orientation, and even power

6th i may consider

midbass drivers wont be able to keep up at that low of a frequency. they would need to take over at 45 hz and about 140 db (not much but for a midbass driver it may be a bit of a stretch lol)

Probably have the best luck going bandpass if you are having a tough time getting to the higher 'more musical' notes. A 4th order would be a fairly easy way to get what you are looking for, though I do personally love my 6th order, as I get a near perfectly flat response from about 25 up to 50.

What sub(s) are we talking about though?

So it says that you have Hertz ESK 130, that's a 5" components, those usually start to kick in at 80-100Hz I'd say your gap is upper in frequency also, after all you said you tuned high and it didn't fix it looks more a gap in the 50-90 Hz region and not much below.

I don't think going bandpass will help you with your problem, do you know for real the exact specs of the box you are using now??

whats the box config.? i know in my truck, 2 18 Fi btls on an AQ3500.1 subs forward port up, it would play down to 20hz no problem.. ( tuned to 34) so, i cut the port down and tuned it to "42hz" ( on paper) and i brought peak up to 29 and also had a peak around 46 or so as well..

subs forward port up seems to work best in my truck ( before i walled it)

subs up port side also seemed to work ok
