WOW Has this happened to anyone?

We recommend to allow at least several weeks of playing time to break in DD Woofers, full break in may take many months. DO NOT play subwoofers at max amplifier power in the first couple of days, give the suspensions a chance to loosen up.

Dunno if this is relevant for you, but might be something to it.

no not relevant. had it for 4 months. I broke it in and played it pretty much every day.

This same exact thing happened to me with the very first sub i've ever owned. It was a Rockford P3 and i could tell it was going to happen because the surround was begging to wear. I took it back to the shop i bought it from and the guy took it back and let me exchange it for a alpine type R 12 :) Talk about a great return policy!! Anyways, i remember playing with the phase on the amp because at the time, i had no idea what it was used for. Now that I look back on it, i'm sure that was the culprit.

phase on the amp? I'm not sure how that would affect. you must have been running a class A/B amp cause on class D mono like i have (DD M1C) there is no phase setting. This might have happened to me cause I was giving it 1500rms daily without a care. Yea I never smelt burnign coil or even glue but Damn it got some excursion. haha. But your issues sounds more like faulty manufacturing? just as mine was half way/ ahha
