I was gonna use the roll of nickles comparison. It's hard to apply it to welds on odd shaped surfaces and strange bends sometimes. Anything flat though should look JUST like Nine8 said. Airborne Posted January 30, 2012 Report Share Posted January 30, 2012 a mig weld doesn't need to look like nickles layed out. A TIG weld looks like that because you heat, apply filler, heat, apply filler etc. You can run a continuous puddle if the job calls for a single pass with the MIG and it will be solid. Go for proper heat and penetration. You can practice making it look like nickles after you get the basics down. And those first boogers are going to fail.
