Are These Welds Good?

Recommended Posts

Negative....a good weld should look like a roll of nickles flattened out....like this....

I was gonna use the roll of nickles comparison. It's hard to apply it to welds on odd shaped surfaces and strange bends sometimes. Anything flat though should look JUST like Nine8 said. The weld he showed, displays good bond and penetration.

Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.

Yeah, that's some crappy weld....geez. I haven't seen such a horrible job like that in a long time.

New build coming soon.

a mig weld doesn't need to look like nickles layed out. A TIG weld looks like that because you heat, apply filler, heat, apply filler etc. You can run a continuous puddle if the job calls for a single pass with the MIG and it will be solid. Go for proper heat and penetration. You can practice making it look like nickles after you get the basics down.

And those first boogers are going to fail.

These are the only decent welds here! I have beem welding for about 4 years and the other welds are not good. The welds in the OP look like some chewed up gum.
