Hello guys and girls! The time has finally arrived to begin Stage 3 of my build, the Kickin' Cruiser. If you haven't seen any of the first two stages, you can catch up HERE.

The car is a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser that I bought a few years ago, and fell in love with ever since. Best car I have ever owned!

199099_188244844544849_4588455_n.jpg

189417_188245197878147_7946699_n.jpg

189130_188238281212172_1132331_n.jpg

And a while back, I decided to split the build into stages, so that it wouldn't seem so over-whelming, and so it would be easier to navigate through. So here is the plan for the different stages:

Stage 1 - Initial instal
Stage 2 - Fiberglass and accessories (Learning Stage)
Stage 3 - Dash, doors, and a 4th order wall. (Time to get serious stage!)
Stage 4 - Rims. body, and paint
Stage 5 - Engine/ drive-train (performance mods)

For this stage, we will be focusing on the interior of the car. We will build new custom door panels, dash panel, change all of the interior color from light brown/ dark brown to grey/ black. I'll also be Installing new carpet front to back, as well as building a new headliner. We will finish it off with new seats. Basically the whole inside of the car is getting a make-over!!! Oh and how could I forget? I'll be building a 4th order wall for 4 Skar VVX 15's (v.1), to run off a DC5.0K. Goals are 50's on music, and nasty hair tricks on demand. So here we go!!!!

Okay, so first order of business will be the door panels. This is what they look like to start with.

394015_315975948438404_1767189975_n.jpg

405190_315975988438400_955469241_n.jpg

This will be going into each door!

423874_315575145145151_1973467731_n.jpg

8" slim mount subs

428598_315575238478475_2070527787_n.jpg

2 - 6.5" component speakers

430459_315575385145127_1865698014_n.jpg

And a set of 5.25" to finish them off. So each door will look something like this:

547886_381388888563776_1414285302_n.jpg

So first thing we need are some MDF rings! This makes it way easier!

419296_315575895145076_297619417_n.jpg

395649_315576295145036_572149076_n.jpg

And now we got some rings!

Okay, so next it's time to get some wood. So let's see what the local hardware store has.

427169_315975505105115_2088467852_n.jpg

There we go! Need some of this.

402423_315975568438442_1515097013_n.jpg

409055_315975621771770_1166153434_n.jpg

And about 5 sheets of this

423157_315975688438430_1336957440_n.jpg

418192_315975761771756_1694444250_n.jpg

So then I had to cut down the sheet of 1/4" into 4 - 2ft x 4ft pieces

417357_315976125105053_1915888854_n.jpg

So the next step is to separate the inside of the door panel from the outside. This was no fun at all!!! Took me several hours with a heat gun.

403880_315976375105028_1659752093_n.jpg

Plastic welds SUCK!!!

430220_315976428438356_1329445222_n.jpg

403884_315976488438350_409833101_n.jpg

One down, one to go

419788_315976615105004_1710319971_n.jpg

No turning back now!

So then I use the inner piece as a template to cut out the new piece

420248_315976735104992_1149922549_n.jpg

Also, had to clean up the inside of the outer panel.

408889_315977065104959_1668470548_n.jpg

422052_315977108438288_421123551_n.jpg

And this is what I was shooting for!

426408_315976808438318_1917026447_n.jpg

Something like this, except with 5.25's instead of tweets up top.

429332_315977018438297_1207490704_n.jpg

404222_315976941771638_1117373410_n.jpg

And that is where I quit for the day! Tomorrow, I'll figure out how to mount the new panel to the door, and how to keep the armrest while doing so!
Thanks for checkin' out my work! Stay tuned for much, much more to come!

EDIT:

This attempt failed, click here to skip ahead to the successful attempt :)
However, if you do, you will miss the dual front battery install, w/ custom busbars, as well as some sound deadner and a few other little things.
Your choice!

Thanks fellas! :drinks: Yeah these doors have been on my mind for a long time, since I seen what lowpt did with his doors. They are perfect for upgrades! And yep exactly... mid-wall on each door!!! 8)

After sleeping on it, I decided to go ahead and order another ks component set, this one 5.25, to go above the 8's in each door. I think it will flat out look better. They will be here wednesday, so no real hold-up. :clapping:

So I'm going outside now to start mounting the new panels to the doors, and figure out a way to make it removable. Also, I should have some packages in today. :woot:

Updates coming later! :good:

Purple,

Hello, it was a pleasant surprise to see you back at it. Of course it goes without saying that everything is looking stellar.

The doors are going to look mighty fine judging by the start.

Keep up the good work, as usual, I'll be watchin'.

Thanks! And yeah, it's totally cool to ask!

The reason I am going with Skar atm instead is because of two reasons.

First, I have seen a lot of good things from the new Skar VVX subs, especially on the lower end, if you know what I mean ;)

Second reason is that Kevin, the owner of Skar, made me a deal I simply couldn't pass up. So instead of running three 12's this year, I get to go ahead and build my dream set-up. A 4th order wall, w/ 4 - 15's. How could I resist? If I want, as long as I build it correctly, I can always swap the subs out for some DC XL 15's, and just add more power. But for now, I pretty much had to do this.

And thanks for checking out my build!

I'll be updating it pretty much daily from now on, until she's finished.

Which does take a little extra time, but it's all worth it! Hope you guys enjoy! :drinks:
