replace tinsel leads.

Recommended Posts

i got a dc level 4 18 and last night sub started sound real scratchy and bad for a second then it quit. took it out of the box and found at 1 tinsel lead on each side broke. i wanted to know is it possible to replace the leads so i don't have to spend a bunch on a recone. thanks

I have before but it was a little bit crappy of a fix. Different subs also. I used some 450lbs test picture hang wire and soldered that to the original tinsel lead and then to the terminal. Had the same problem and same fix for 3 of the same woofers. After many different materials tried the picture hang wire was the best in my case anyways. GL

thats some ghetto rigging right there...your safest and most reliable is going to be a recone, what kind of power were you running to it? m1's? or m2's? also box specs? how old is it?

Legal TL scores145.6 on the dash sealed up in the low 40hz area with the port out145.5 on the dash sealed up @30hz with the port inless then 1k clamped on a 3.5k!

Why would you EVER WANT flex?
huh?...flex is what can make the lows lower and more air being pushed correct?

It worked though. It wasnt pretty and I wouldnt do it on any equipment I have now but sometimes the tinsel leads are not engineered very well and a recone will likely just delay this from happening again.

Are the breaks possibly from bottoming the sub out? Or from normal use?

im gunna take a wile guess and say sub abuse, either over powering(if they burnt up) or over excursion/botteming it out

its a d2 in a 6 cu ft box tuned to 32. no it was not abuse it was set with oscope at volume 23 i never turn it higher then 21, all music i play is decaf or stuff i went through to make sure its not clipping. its on an audiopipe 1500d dosent get hot or smell. the sub is about 2 years old now. it appears that it was hitting the pads on the cone and frayed the wire tell it was thin enough to burn up.

that is all heat, user error all the way. when the tinsel is copper/burned color you did something wrong.
