Box Design for 2 SA-12's

Recommended Posts

Quick question, I just bought 2 Sundown SA-12's and I'm designing a box.

they say the SA-12's like 2 cubes each, but can go as large as 2.25 cubes....now personally i feel like i can give them a bit more, but i'd like to ask some people who have had SA's before if they do best in the recommended volume.

Each setup will be tuned at 34 hz or if you SA owners have any input on the tuning let me know!

Last question i have is should i use just one 6 inch Aero? or use 2? or even 3 4 inchers?

Thanks,

Chris

1 6" aero will be just fine, what power are you running?

i would do a box just like this if you could:

a2d1f86c.jpg

that box was 4.55 cubes tuned to 34ish hz for a pair of SA-12s. I had them on my SAZ3500D @ .5 for daily.

heres the vid:

depending on your power of course, i would try for 4.0-4.25 cubes @ 34hz with a single 6" aero, also which vehicle is this going in?

For a 4 cubic feet net enclosure a 6 aero 12 inch long (about half of the flange(s) length(s) excluded) will tune you to 34 Hz. But port area is below recommendation,

3 4" aeros 16.8 length will do the same within recommended port area range.

Going in a civic and These will be going on 2.1k Rms and the problem with having everything on the same face is that my trunk allows a box no wider than 34 inches and 16.5 tall....which if i did the calculations right, would be too small for the ports and subs on the same face,

unless i offset them with the subs moved down a bit on the face and the port moved up. The only think I'm really worried about is that with this cramming, will there be enough room for the MDF to have enough support to not flex.

I also came to ask u guys, if i did do the 3 4inch aeroport or even the single 6, will subs forward into the cabin and ports back create some noise issues?

Or is subs up port back a better design for the given space?

- I could just stick with everything on the same face with a single six crammed on the face but will subs up port back/subs forward port back be relatively the same efficiency

you dont wanna have subs facing back and port firing into the cabin in a trunk, or even the other way around, if you have a custom 6" aero (the one in my box above) the 6" cutout is only 7 1/4" rather than the 8 3/8" a PSP aero is, or you can cut the outer aero flare

but why do you want to use aeros? you can get away with a slot box easily if only doing 2 12s in a trunk

Alright but that means i can only do 1 6 on the same side which someone said might not be enough port?

1 6" aero is just fine, did you even watch my video above? exactly what i'm doing... plus i just did a build with 2 sa12s and 2 4" aeros, which 1 6" has more port than the 2 4s by just a little... 1 6" aero will be enough for these.

for a 4 cu box with an 8" aero how long would it need to be for 32hz? 34hz? Thanks
