Probably a dumb question, but...

Is it possible to modify a stock alternator to achieve a higher output? One of my friends talked about how he just did this to his Toyota Celica, and I was wondering if he's blowing smoke or not...

2001 Toyota Corolla CE:

4x Crescendo PWX6.5's

2x Crescendo FT1-SE's

1x DC Audio lvl 2 M1 8 (looking for more)

Slot port box 0.7ft^3 @ 31.77hz

Yes it can be done... Reliably? Not really.

you can always get your stock one rebuilt, or wound tighter. yeah it will probably get you maybe 50 more amps, but how reliable... idk

example a mla module will boost voltage too

gm also sells A "voltage booster..ups it by .4 of a volt )

and xs power sells a vcm for chevys thatll up voltage too

but i call bs in his story lol

it is dueable swapping out the diodes n shit

Depending on the alternator case you can buy a high output rebuild kit, but as stated it wouldn't be as reliable as purchasing a well built alternator.

So the story is half true, half bs? Lol I knew it!!!

Anyway, if this is the case (no pun intended), my aunt worked at Richmond Electric here in Wichita. From what she told me, they hand-wind alternator windings and can custom make their own diodes for commercial and recreational use. I can get this done dirt cheap, and it'll help out in the long run until DC starts producing the 320A alt for my car!
