Getting started on my S10, will be a slow build due to budgeting limits but I'm starting with the Alt.

It's a 2.2l s10 so the stocker has to go and there aren't aftermarket bolt ons that have good idle output...so I'm adapting a DC Power 270 SP.

It's tight and not much room to work with (the alt is friggin heavy compared to stock !! )

I built an extension bracket out of 1/4" steel and just ground it down 'till it fit. It was a bitch getting the top bolt started by myself 'cause I had to hold it in place and sneak the bolt in from the back at the same time.

Here are the pics of my progress so far.

CURRENT SYSTEM:

  • Alternator:
    1. Stock alt on mids/highs
    2. Isolated DC Power 270 SP - Charging @ 16.8v
  • Batteries: (2) XS D1400s
  • Power Cable: Double Runs of 1/0 KNU Kolossus Fleks
  • Headunit: 80-PRS
  • Sub Amp: DC 5.0k
  • Subwoofers: 2 RE MT 15s /PSI dual .7ohm recones
  • Subwoofer Enclosure: 9.1cubes @ 32hz - brutal.
  • Mids & Highs Amp: CT125.4
  • Active Components:
    • Mids RE XXX 6.5c
    • Highs - 3 RE XXX tweeters per side(A pillar)
  • Noise Control: Damplifier Pro all over the cab.

what's your plans for it? I kno first hand how hard it is to change them alts... they suck. lol

1/0 big 3 all shok industry single run to the back

New mid/highs coming not sure what

Soundqubed q2200d at .5 (have)

2 soundqubed hdc3 12s (have)

New box to be built.. sealed firing forward (yet to be designed)

200 amp alt not sure exact size or manufactor xs power batts

Yeah, they really should have put a little more effort into making the standard 4.3 alt bolt up to the 2.2.

Plan is 2 15" RE MTs - cut-through - on a Soundstream XXX 4000d - 14vbats/16v charging

Plans may change though...regardless of the end system I need a beefy electrical foundation :bunny:

Just curious why you would make a bracket instead of getting a mechman 270a made for the 2.2l?

Didn't know they made one for the s10 and if it bolt right up I doubt its a beefy as this one. There just isnt enough space in the stock location for a large alternator. What does a mechman 270 made for a 2.2l s10 do at idle?

165amp at 700rpm-full output at 1700rpm. Not sure what the specs were on that dc power.

are you sure that mechman would bolt into the stock location on a 2nd gen 2.2l s10 ? What alt casing do they use?

Not that it matters at this point :)
