Sundown Audio SA: 1/2 15" or 3 12"?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

a friend of mine was asking me whether he should get 1 / 2 SA-15s or 3 SA-12s... (3 12s is the maximum budget)

He already has an ESX SE7000D Amp (3.5kW @ 1 ohm) and doesn't want the subbox to be bigger than around 6 cu ft.

What hits harder but still sounds nice and clean?

3 SA-12s or 2 SA-15s in a ported enclosure (but i think the 2 15" box would be too big?) or just 2 SA-12 or 1 SA-15 but in a bandpass enclosure?

What do you think about the recommended enclosures on www.sundownaudio.com?

Are those numbers correct or is it better to build bigger boxes?

Greetings from Germany,

Holdi

For that much power, 3 12s

5.5 - 6 cubes would be best

What do you think, how big would the enclosure be using 3 12s?

And 2 15s?

You're all talking about ported enclosures, right?

What about a bandpass?

A friend of mine had 4 15s built in a bandpass wall (

)

, his new project is a vw caddy with 8 15s also in a bandpass wall....

2 15s ported gonna be like 6.5-7

Yes ported, but those are the air spaces after port and driver displacement you'll want, will be 7-8 gross atleast before port and driver displacments
