Lexus IS-F Sound System install - Custom SMD VM-1/OM-1/TM-1f Dash Piece (update page 71)

Recommended Posts

Thank you for the distro blocks idea, was going to hit up toolmaker for something fancy, but as you're proving, a simple aluminum slab will do. Flow of the trunk is very nice btw. :good:

And where are all the people that suggest a HO alt as soon as you go over 1000RMS? :roflmao:

Google it

I can't think of any build I've enjoyed watching more than this on the forum. And that IS-F is getting a fitting system... Not too much and not too little it seems.

And thanks again for going out of pocket for SOTM April. I'm listening to the RE 8" sub I picked up with the cash right now... it's prolly the best overall sounding sub I've owned LOL

Do work, bro! 8)

Birch is the latest "fad" bro.

having done alot of work in home theater, pro sound, and building guitar and bass guitar cabinets, i can say that birch is more than just a fad. it has superior tonal properties compared to mdf, and of course the obvious weight difference. though if folks cared for ultimate material as far as the perfect balance of weight, tonal characteristics, and strength, then they would be looking more toward poplar.

i was being a smart ass. I dont know about the tonal qualities being different though. Especially since i glass the inside of my boxes.

i love birch but you always get the hardheaded people that say you can only build a box from mdf, as long as you use decent quality birch ply or hardwood ply you'll be fine.

anyway nice work in the lexus steve, looks great so far

i thought about it but i didn't feel like going and buying it....plus, i have never tapped holes with a drill press, always by hand. Can it even be done on a drill press? I know you can do the holes, duhhh but what about tapping the threads?

Tapping the threads can be done with a press, but you gotta baby it lol. I still prefer to do them by hand. Go too fast with a press and you'll heat up and snap the bit.

No, you want to do those by hand always. You have a feel for it by hand...but machine you cant! too easy to mess the threads up
