2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS IB Trunk Build - RF Fi Infinity Pioneer XS Power MechMan SHCA Knu Gates ...

Recommended Posts

About 10 years ago, my Dad found a crapload of the stuff, both that thickness, & half that ... that I used in other places I described ... in a dumpster out near Rochester (NY). Yeah, you can say he was dumpster divin', but it's not the reason he was at the place. He grabbed all he could shove in his car at the time, & we considered going back at the time, because he was told he could have as much as he wanted ... & much of it was literally in "sheets" ... at least considered that way by me ... 10 feet long by 3-4 feet, etc. Hell of a find, ... not much left.

Do you, by any chance, remember the name of the company that let you have it?

Hey buddy, hows it going? Nice electrical upgrades, looks real clean. I hope that helped with your dimming issues. Keep up the good work.

Thank you, Brett ...
I have been throwing some knowledge & $$$ in the right places each time something arises as I finish up this project/install.
The final issue(s) I am having is voltage drop / interior / exterior light dimming while system is playing at really no more than 50% ... Frustrating for sure, ... but I have some solid ideas, & plans to talk to some folks - including MechMan - so I can the problem first thing Spring 2014, when I bring the car back out for the "good" weather.

Looks good, Heres what i got coming up to install.

Yeah, definitely love those T3's, Brett ... If I had had a tad bit more loot, I would have bought those instead of the Kappa Perfect's I ended up with ... Though when I think about it, I really do not think I could have done a pair of T3's any justice with my set-up of a T400-2 & on passive x-overs ... so it was really between the Kappa's or RF T2's ... I snagged up the Kappa's, & I, personally, could not be happier with them for what I am trying to accomplish.

Be well, ...
JRS

I do believe it was some indie business somewhere in the Eastman (Kodak) Business Park, Sir.

(I also PM'd you.)

Well, ... to combat the voltage droppage issues I was having last Fall before I put the Monte up for the Winter, I just sent my 170A MechMan in to get pumped up to a 240A.

I will likely - likely = 100% - be installing either a XS D925, 975, or a 1200 out back as an extra to help the D3400 up front.

Someone with some good knowledge suggested the 925, ... then I thought: "Why not grab a 975 since I could likely afford it?". Then the 1200 took on the same profile in my mind, but something tells me that would genuinely be real overkill for what I have, ... especially knowing that I am not going to upgrade anything as far as the amps & subs go ... in this car ... if anything, maybe I would swap in a different deck someday & probably someday a better set of 6.5" components in the doors, even though I really like my Kappa Perfect's.

Ugh. Decisions, decisions.

Thoughts? Ideas? Criticisms?

Back in December (2013) - all set for a nasty Central New York winter ...

20131205_123733_zpsbf15914c.jpg

April 1st ... Ahhh, ... some fresh air ...

uncoverMONTEspring20140001_zps01b6d8a6.j

Then quickly with the BATT charger on the D3400 that started December 1st sitting at 13.0v, & ended up April 1st when uncovered at 12.45v. Does that seem like quite a big drop for only four months? FYI: NOTHING was connected to the BATT whatsoever ...

underhoodMONTEspring20140003_zps8f1a3c2a

I took advantage of the charging time by changing the oil & filter ... Nothing but the best - Amsoil Signature Series 100% Synth & Ea filter. I like changing the oil before cranking the engine in the spring ... everything, if there was anything, has had a chance to leach down into the oil pan & you can really start "fresh" ... As an FYI: ALWAYS put oil in your new filter before installing it, also use your finger to rub just a light film of oil around on the rubber gasket, then screw it on ... just a nice firm "hand tight" will suffice. Fill that filter as much as you can with oil, ... I know with GM's 3.1L it is hard to get a full fill because of the angle the filter is on, but some is better than none. Another 'lil trick? Get a small bottle - like a quart of oil - of Marvel's Mystery oil, & use that as the first 1/2 of what you can put in your filter. Let it soak in, ... wait a good couple minutes, & put a little more in, then put your engine oil of choice in right over the top of it, ... & whatever you have left of the Marvel's, you can either dump in your fuel tank - if it's at least 3/4-full, or save it for your next oil change. Mine went right in the tank, as I always store it with additives in the winter ...

Next ... Time to install my upgraded MechMan S Series ALT - needed to rock a 240A instead of that 170A I started with last year ...

MECHman240aALT2014-0001_zps2bca5e73.jpg

Then with the BATT up to 12.8v+, ALT in, oil/filter changed, & airing up two tires, ... I fired it up, ... & get 'er in the driveway ...

Wow.

I am sure almost nobody does this in their Build Logs, let alone anywhere else, but I just took a peek & I saw that there has been exactly 8,000 views here. I think that is pretty cool ... I know that is about 7,200 MORE than I ever thought I would get when I first started.

I will stop gushing here, but only after I say thank you, because if you are reading this, you are someone who is over 8,000.
