Precision Power PC2350 amp guts and specs

Oh yes it sure is. I have done that with plenty of electronics ive worked on in the past. You can do that with the PPI amp just have to unscrew the PCB and take it out. I took out my entire amp from the heatsink and cleaned it all up. Surprisingly it was very clean in side the amp. I figured with the fan that it would be caked with dust and everything because the guy who had the amp before me smoked and cars are fairly dusty inside.

Wow, that is disgusting. Come to think of it, I've never really seen a dusty amp that wasn't exposed to pet hair. That seems to do the trick, as with the common pet-hair clogged dusty desktop PC. Was the standard over-application of thermal compound present? Looks to be. Also seeing some points of contact that have soft burns around them, other areas that appear to be burnt are just coated in old flux or rosin. Poor thing was probably clipped :(

I'm gonna hate

Actually it was nice and clean. And I will admit I clipped the amp hardcore before I knew how to set gains other than by ear. The burnt resistors are what the -12db setting is for. I set the switch on when it should have been off for my RCA voltage and that sent tons of power to those resistors. The other solder points were just like that from day one. As for the shit load of flux that was all from the factory at ppi. They gobbed on the thermal paste and trust me it made a mess. I got the paste all over my hands, shirt and bench when I took the amp apart. One thing idk if you can see in the pics is the plastic guard that is stuck to the back plate of the amp. That protects the main power transformer from shorting out on the back cover of the amp since the transformer is so large and rubs onto it once installed.

Oh yeah it sure is one tank of an amp. It was clipped for sure by the original owner but he wouldnt admit to it lol. I love how this amp sounds but the only thing i can say that is a flaw is that when you play full tilt you can hear the whirring noise of the transformer inside the amp running. Other than that like if i play at lower volumes it isnt heard and isnt a problem. The output on the amp is crystal clear and i love how it performs, especially for its age. I will never give up this amp.

Hmmm never thought about that. I just wonder if its one of the caps because its like a hissing noise that goes with the beat to the music. It would be great if the fets were attached to the body at all times because then i could trace where that sound is coming from and correct it.

If any of the caps are loose it could be them. It's usually the little caps, too. Coil whine gets worse under load cap whine stays about the same but only starts at a certain load. If the amp hums idling then it's probably a coil.

well i just learned something new. thanks!

with the whole "hot-swap" design. do they click in at all or could they theoretically rattle loose?

Technically you do not do a hot swap of them because a hot swap involves keeping the device powered on and taking out the redundant/broken equipment while the other redundant device picks up the slack temporarily. They do not click in but the terminals are pretty tight and require a good amount of force to pull out. I am not too big of a fan with how the terminals are setup especially for the power in the sense that if you have the wire where not all strands are in the opening it may touch the terminal next to it because they are not made completely separate from one another. Its easy to prevent with just a dab of solder on the outside of the wires when you put them in or you can solder the entire tip before inserting it into the plugs.
