Nasty1
I have two yellow tops that are about a year and a half old and they rest at 11.8 and 11.9 volts. I read that if they rest lower than 12.5 they are bad. They were on a mechman 250 alt with 2 runs of + and - with 1/0 and the big 3. My ? is there a way to bring up there resting voltage or do i need to buy new batterys??? c.director
That's low, a 12 volt battery should never fall below 12 really. Ive had a Optimas rest between 12.5-13.5. SnowDrifter
Charger would be step 1 Batteries self discharge over time, so if they have been sitting for that long - expect them to be pretty dead. There might have been internal damage to the battery too because it was sitting in a discharged state for so long Quote ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

snafu
Yep, this is not uncommon with Optimas now-a-days. The red top in my Mustang typically rests at between 11.8 and 11.9 VDC. I really can't comment why this is because I'd be guessing, but this is something that I run into often. Maybe one of the battery gurus here can chime in - Nate? Scottie?
