meade916
i started off with a design that i wanted to see if it would work before i went all out. After hearing it and finding it quite loud for such a small port i decided i could make the box stronger and clean it up some. I also decided to make the port removable so i could take it out to tune higher for competitions. Also wanted the option of removing it, retuning the port itself and replacing without destroying the box. Heres how it went. a quick BEFORE: now heres the mods, butchered the old port out.... 1 Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! meade916
this weekends progress.....gettin there! when you see this you know its gonna be a messy day! I used this stuff thats a hybrid between the heavy chop sheet and the woven one. Its like getting two layers with the effort of one. a layer or two and it is very strong now. I tipped the box at a 45 degree angle and let a pool of resin self-level itself into a 45. I did this at every RIGHT angle in the box vertical and horizontal. a lil bright light to help it setup faster. meade916
Filled this area with "kittyhair" and knocked it down smooth. Filled in with a little bondo so its real smooth now. now its time to mount the removable port. These things rule! Drill a hole, dig them in with an allen wrench and she is ready to accept a bolt from the front of the port! Some weather stripping installed and she is ready to install! meade916
If anyone is wondering why the notch is in the box, well heres part of the reason. The batterys cant spare even the smallest amount of space so this mod had to accomodate that. A nice bolt every 3" oughta' do the trick. I bit on the Makita with an 11mm socket and its a quick change. 30hz to 50hz Just like that! There is now a full 5 gallons of Resin and the equivilant of 4 layers of Mat (used the heavy stuff described earlier) This thing is VERY heavy now and solid as a rock, i cant wait to hear it! meade916
i will probably finish it with black texture stone since i liked the way it came out with the previous box. This time it wont be so rushed and it should come out nice. I only had a little to test an area but i like it so now its time to go get a few more cans. Here it is half primered and a little idea how the texture will look. Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! meade916
In case anyone wants to know, that white stuff is a elastomeric coating over the resin to smooth it all out. 1 Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel!
