Dremel or Router?

Recommended Posts

He never said anything before your response about them being good or not being good for boxbuilding.

That's exactly my point... Maybe you should READ my post again.

Either way, you are wrong, and a dremel has its place in car audio fab, and even box building....

I would never suggest a use of a dremel for cutting speaker holes, or rounding over corners because a dremel cant compare to a routers power, but there are many uses for them in box building at times (not always) and examples given...

Not bashing you, dremels do have there spot. I would suggest to try and not use them though when fabbing anything wood related, I used one yesterday to flatten some edges on a amp rack I built, was very unfriendly and not fun to use. I am sure if I had a router, would have have soooo much better and cleaner in the end.

I'll admit, half way through sanding that fiberglass in the rain and cold while I was all itchy I was definitely starting to question why i was doing this haha

I still need a router, I cut all my wood circles for the stuff I fiberglassed with a jigsaw, cause I dont have a router yet, dremels are great for removing fiberglass and shaping it around corners after it dried, so they both have there place, you can get by without a router and using a jigsaw, but a router will give you perfect circles and save alot of time, its one of the next tools im gonna be getting :D, a table saw would be nice too, but a circular saw and a straight edge works, just takes more time, and you have to do a lot more measuring :P its all about time and what you need, a dremel from my exerience does not have the power to cut through 1/2 to 3/4 inch + mdf, it reall struggles, where a jigsaw would just cut through it no problem, even with a dull blade :P
