4 15s in a Toyota Celica: The Austrian Bandpass ;)

Recommended Posts

Hi @ all!

my name is Dominik, im 22 years old and i live in Austria. The 92' Celica is my first "bigger" build and i want to show you my progress so far. I am doing EVERYTHING myself, except the paintjob of the car itself. Please consider that im not a pro ;)

Its the 1.6L 16 Valve 105 HP engine, which is very reliable :)

The story:

In 2010 i started rebuilding the whole car: new Polyurethane Racing bushings all around, new braking System from the ST185 Rallye Version, lowering Kit, new wheel bearings all around and TONS of other stuff :)

Additionally, i bought a 270Amp Mechman alternator, i think i was one of the first Austrians (the first?) to have such a great Alternator :D

In summer 2011 i started building the Stereo System. A short overview of the Components:

4 pieces of CZ Audio "DIY" 15 inch Woofers in a 4th order Bandpass

currently only 1 SPL Dynamics D9S, waiting for the second one to be delivered :S

5 Batteries: 4 CZ Audio 4000s, 1 Stinger SPV45 as Starter Batt.

4 CZ Audio 6.5" Neodymium MIdBasses in CB Doorboards @ Calcell HF500.2

2 Andrian Audio 25 G² Tweeters @ Audio Art 200.2

(4 PA Tweeters @ MTX Thunder 280......equipment in the Garage, just need some Time to install it ;) )

let me show you some Pix:

In April this year, i had the car repainted, because the old paintjob was horribly done by the guy i bought the car from, as you can see in the pix above.

Now its white again :D

here are some semi professional pix by my brother in law:

the 270Amp Mechman Unit. Notice the fan beneath the alternator! it blows fresh air upwars to provide cooling. additionally, i installed an air scoop to get the hot air out ;) works great!

did you notice the 2 different sorts of midbasses in the doors? i was testing my old focal 165K2P against the CZ Audio Neo drivers, but the Focals are at least 3dB more silent...

behind the seats: 4 Batteries and the Mid / high Amps. The MTX will seat right above the little Bussbars

my selfmade eightball Tweeterhousings :D with copper frontring.

custom stickerbombed centerconsole with my GalaxyTab for navigation and Multimedia.

img20120617123315.jpg

The Carbonplate holds the switches for the Alternator-fan, the Amps, and the light in the Bandpass.

img20120617123258.jpg

I also have a temperature Sensor placed direktly on the Windings of the alternator. the display in the Glove-Box shows me the temperature of the alt so that i always know whats going on under the hood ;) -> btw: its degree Celsius :P

img20120617122540.jpg

Just waiting for the second D9S to show up, then i will carpet the little remaining spots ;)

img20120617122616.jpg

my main Buss Bars in the back :)

All the cables are 70mm² ( 0 Gauge is 53mm² afaik)

Of course i have metered it already.

It plays 153.1 all sealed up with the TL legal on passengers side's dash at 47 Hertz. When i open the door, i hops up to about 155.

I get 10500 Watts RMS (measured!) out of the single D9S @ 0.9 Ohms (0.4 Ohm without impedance rise).

Curious how it plays on music with the second D9S :)

heres an older Video (before the new paintjob) of the Roof Flex:

If there are any questions, just go ahead :)

Regards from Austria,

Dominik

It wasnt easy, i hat to cut a lot of metal out of the car.

But it worked out :) It plays not too low, just as i like it. Its fast, extremely powerful and versatile and very aggressive. I dont like those low tuned Ported Boxes which lack the dry punch ;)

Hairtricks work as well ;)
