The new Reference series is designed as well!

New REF1.1000, 1000W @2 ohms

Holy crap!

I never would have guessed the newer amps had that many caps....

More close ups of the cap values please...!

They sound just as good as the old and make more power, they did these suckers right the second time around too. That was a photo from the SS website I'll see what I can find you. May even tear my new REF4.400 open again which has the same caps albeit a lot less of them if I must to help out a fellow Reference fanatic. :D

LOVE old school Reference Soundstream...

I had a Reference 1000 10yrs ago and had to sell it to make some ends meet.

I never gave it proper electrical to get its full potential but it still sounded good.

...wish I still had it.

You're telling me, brother. I had a Reference 405S I had just re-capped (with audio-grade electrolytics that were quite pricey...) and a Reference 500 in the original packaging that was used for maybe a week. I accidentally left them in a storage unit along with two functioning and two KO'd but fixable PPI Art Series amps when I moved from Texas to Florida a while back. What a shame.

I'm gonna hate

PPI Art....

Not too long ago I went on an eBay buying spree and picked up an A100, two A300's and an A600.

I wanted to integrate the A600 on my highs, but I'm not sure that I can squeeze it in physically. So I switched to my 1993 Punch200.

Since the P200 is close to 20yrs old, I wanted to refurb it and replace the caps. I'm in the middle of that so I switched again to my A300.2

Damn, that hurts...Ref500 in original packaging left behind... :cray:

Wow, still have all those Art series amps? I know it's a shame about the Reference 500- box wasn't in the best shape but the amp was mint besides a big scratch on the back cover. I bet whoever cleaned the unit out didn't know what they were and junked them since to most people "old" electronics aren't too exciting..

I'm gonna hate

Yep, I still have them. Didn't get them too long ago. I couldn't afford them back in 1996 but I can now so I've been adding to the collection lately.

I'd post some pics but I don't want to threadjack this from the OP's REF1000 pics above. I'll get some good pics and start a new thread.

  • 2 weeks later...

i think the older 1000s could handle a 1/4 ohm load the new ones cant even handle 1/2 ohm

Yah they can? They put out 1000 RMS at 1 and 2 ohms, tightly regulated power supply like on a JL Slash amp. It's an improvement not a detractor if you ask me. I've ran my new 4.400 bridged at 1 ohm to some pioneer 250w RMS D2 10s I had as a hold-me over and it did it like a champ on stock electrical and cooked the subs (wal-mart subs).

I'm gonna hate
