SnowDrifter
What physically happens to an amp when it blows say from... Voltage drop/high voltage? Too low of impedance? Thermal? Or something else? I have always wondered which parts fail and what causes them to fail in a given situation Edited June 26, 2012 by SnowDrifter Quote ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
STEvil
Short answer: Magic smoke appears. Long answer: Lots of thermal induced electromigration (arc welding) in whatever part gives up the smoke first. Quote MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..." Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed. SmallTruk
most common thing I've personally seen on dead amps; fried mosfets
Zapanater
Mosfets are very common. Otherwise I've seen power supplies roasted off the circuitboard. Quote 2015 Subaru Outback. That is all, I refuse to touch it.
