subwoofer ported enclosure help

Recommended Posts

so i have recently(2 hours ago) bought a

fi ssd 10 dual 1 ohm - running at 1000 rms

and a MB Quart ONX1.1000D - running at 1000 rms at 1 ohm

the car i have is a 2001 toyota echo

so now i need to figure out if i should build a box or use the bassworx ported enclosure that came with my Kicker C104 (150 rms)

***may i add i dont know how big the box is.. and i dont have a tape measure handy at this point***

the fi ssd 10

Ported box: .6-1.2 cuft @ 33Hz

kicker

1.25 - 1.75 cubic feet ( doesnt say at what frequency)

any help would be wonderful

and a side question

capacitor or battery??? ill probably need one or the other...

You should build your own box to get the best results.

Battery definitely, they help alot more than a capacitor when needing extra power, or having to deal with voltage drops. Big 3 is recommended as well if you haven't done it.

You're gonna have to either wire that sub to 2 or .5 ohms, and I don't know if the MB Quart can handle .5 ohms.

as long as you arent wiring at .5ohms, i personally wouldnt bother adding a batt. pretty much any stock electrical can handle that amp. an extra batt def wouldnt hurt any though!

and to me, big 3 is a must in ANY vehical, whether it has a system or not. thats just me though.

His post wasn't helpful?? God knows how you would have wired it if no one said anything...

If you just ordered that sub 2 hours ago, contact Fi and see if you can change your order to dual 2 ohm.

The ONX1.1000D will deliver 750W (they say) at 2 ohm and it won't be a night and day difference in output BUT you can call them and get the dual 2 ohm, that will be better.

Usually Kicker boxes are tuned high and likely won't be optimal or that sub, build your own, post some dims and me or others can get you a cut sheet.

The amp is gonna be more efficient at 2 ohms then 1 ohms, which is very normal for amps, so electrical shouldn't be too bad but Big 3 is a big definitely, and 750 watts should be fine for the SSD, you're not gonna horribly under power it.

This is a very helpful tutorial on designing a ported box

And there's Torre's calculator topic as well for more details
