ncc74656
a friend has a ZX2500.1 that he is no longer using and it cuts out from time to time on him. he pushed it very hard on a shit electric system. he offered it to me for 30 bucks and im thinking of hooking it to a spare 1KW computer power supply i have and using it to power my 8OHM computer sub. any thoughts? has anyone done this before? lanman31337
Your computer power supply isn't going to have enough juice on the 12 volt line to feed more than a few hundred watts. Azagtoth502
You'll need something with enough amps. andale927
Go to newegg.com and look at the amperage on the 12v line. Something with 200 amps can be found but its not cheap... This does 180 amps at 12v http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194092
ncc74656
my spare PSU is a single 12V rail at 87A. the amp i figure can put out 625W at 8Ohm, the sub i have on my computer speakers is 560W so that seems to be close enough no? ive got a couple PSU's lying around, i could combine a couple of them. Tim Lam
yeah, you're going to have to get a seperate power supply for it(obviously haha) but there's a reason why home audio uses lower power for speakers. plus a house is a much better listening environment, so 2500rms is a bit of overkill. not to mention your electric bill after using that for a month, ouch... Omega5002
You don't need that much power for a home environment. Tim Lam
another thought is if the amp is cutting out, you don't know what could be wrong with it. next thing you know, you're house fuses start bursting like popcorn
