(solved) Improving the performance of a virtual machine?

Recommended Posts

I am running win7 with win8 in a VM using VMware Workstation.

I expected it to be a bit sluggish just because of the nature of such methods, but overall performance is very disappointing. Think skipping frames when switching between windows or waiting a few seconds for a window to close.

I have 4 cores devoted to it (Intel QX9300@ 3ghz)

5 gigs of ram (out of a total of 8)

and 60gb of hard drive space.

Any ideas on ways to up the performance besides new hardware?

You could make it looks like windows classic to see if that helps, think my dad told me the videocard doesn't work well in a virtual machine, I know he runs 2 to keep himself organized.

how many cores does your laptop have to start with? You may be overcommiited? Do you have vmware tools installed and hardware acceleration enabled.

he said without new hardware. I dont think the speed of the drive is the issue. Its more of a config issue.
