Really Confused

Recommended Posts

So my buddy put an alpine type R 15 in a sealed box, and its hitting way lower than my 10^ft box tuned to 35 hz with two 18s in it, similar to the dc lvl 4's. Granted, im giving them 1k a piece but they rms at 2500, but what's the deal here ? I mean, I THOUGHT 35hz was fairly low. But that sealed box he has his subs in is giving incredible bass response. Now, I didn't build the box the 18s are in, but it looks like it has enough port area ? I'll post pictures when I get to a computer, but any idea what it would be ??

Current setup in my 96 Hoe

Subs - 2 Crossfire XSv2 18's

Alt - Singer 330A

Front stage - Random JL & Eclipse mids, Eclipse tweets

Sounds like there is something seriously wrong with the design and tuning of your box.......Those 18s ought to be all over that 15".............Of course the types of vehicles you guys have plays a huge role as well...........If his 15" is in a CRX....lol......and your 18s are in a Suburban or Expedition that's not exactly a level playing field......get us some dimensions on your enclosure/port.............

port area, power issues, tuning. if they are quality 18s then one of those 3 may be an issue. power issues the sub category of wiring as well. make sure you have big enough wiring going to speakers from amp. make sure amp has big enough wires and can do proper power.

the next item is that you may be way to under powering subs which means they wont reach near full excursion so they wont be able to displace as much air which helps to make lower notes.

that port gottta be big enough to move air too. and if you are tuned higher than 40 lower notes start to disappear because box f3 point starts to creep up into the 30s sometimes which makes subs unload at lower hz unless you are a great box designer.

Subsonic right below tuning or lower if you know what you are doing. And start your lpf at 80 hz
