need help converting 12 Vlt to 24 Vlt for faster Actuator! help!

Recommended Posts

i dunno how it would affect drop, but i also dont know if that would back feed into the system somehow.

this is very true also. best off to just have the batts not connected to system and connect them seperatly to a small batt charger to the DC to AC converter i have installed. that would work right?? and just get a volt meter to c when i need to charge it?

If you have a clamp meter for DC amps, hook two batteries in series, hook the actuator up, and measure it while it's working. And make sure they're hooked up to whatever they're moving, because I BELIEVE they use more amps depending on how much physical resistance there is. Then you'll know how many amps the converter would need to put out.

Or you can just keep 2 batts in series, disconnected from the rest of the car's electrical, and just charge them separately as needed.

You won't be able to hook up two 12v batteries in series and have them charge off your regular charging system with out doing an isolater/solenoid system that cuts the batteries out of the main system when they are being used. Then goes back to a 12v battery bank for when charging. In my other hobby, high power CB radio we have things called "motor maul's" which allow us to run big amplifers by using 4-8 large 12v batteries that charge off the main charging system but then when you key the microphone a solenoid switches the charge feed off and runs the batteries in series allowing us to use anywhere from 12-24 volts on the battery bank.

I wish I knew how to build a unit like this for smaller applications. I sold my old motor maul a long time ago so I don't even have anything to reference off of any more. But the unit I had was good for 400 amps which is WAY to big for what the OP is needing. He only needs a 5 to 10amp circuit.
