so a few of us honda guys got to talkin in pm and in our little thread about when our belts would start slipping.

basically what we want to know is since DC power makes a 270 amp alt for our vehicle and no one else on the market even comes close.. would our belts slip on their 250 amp and 270 amp units?

if no load is applied at idle then the load is applied at 2-3k rpm would we still get belt slip?

if we rolled into the volume knob would the belt slip not be a factor?

correct belt wrap is the key. All of us chevy guys with multi alts get slippage

You should be fine tho. when I had a 270 on my Toyota 2.2l I had belt slip, then I tightened up the alt correctly and I never had a problem after.

Can you define belt wrap for me?

I just want a full answer and not have any more questions about belt slip lol.

Basically just make sure it has the proper tension on it?

But doesn't the slippage hinder the output amperage of the alt. So wouldn't having a lot of slip defeat the purpose of having an the 270 over say some of the smaller ones

yes this was the question raised in our discussion.

with the proper tension on the belt, would a 270 amp alt be too hard for a 650 rpm 1.8L engine to turn properly?

I have a triple DC Power alt setup on my Avalanche and have never had belt slip. I don't think it has anything to do with which company you use but like everyone is saying the belt wrap.

define belt wrap.

I believe belt wrap is the percentage of the pully the the belt actually comes in contact with. This contact introduces friction. Less area with pully/belt contact = less friction = gretaer chance of belt slip. More area with pully/belt contact = more friction = lesser chance of belt slip.

The above assumes a properly fit belt and a good working tensioner if applicable.
