well i'm starting college next Wednesday and i'm curious about what you guys are majoring in.

i will be majoring in Integrated Production Technologies. and here is what the program is

http://www.ftcc.edu/...mp=home&pid=491

Program Overview

The Integrated Production Technologies (IPT) program provides specialized academic and technical skills training to prepare students for careers as technicians in the oil and natural gas production, many operators are currently requiring that new employees possess an AAS (2yr) degree in a related curriculum.

Technicians are specialist in instrumentation, automation, computer, electrical, mechanical, safety, and process systems. Technicians need academic and technical skills in computer applications, instrumentation, mathematics, physical science, electronics, fluid mechanics, process diagrams and process systems along with communication, teamwork, and employability skills. Salary & Career Outlook

Graduates of the IPT program can expect to work at state-of-the-art production facilities, offices, and control rooms equipped with advanced technologies.

The industry advisory board projects the starting salaries of IPTN graduates to average $60,000 with an opportunity to increase earnings with overtime. With 50% of the industry labor force eligible for retirement within 10 years, continued development of new technologies, and new deepwater discoveries, the industry need for qualified employees should continue to increase.

this is a cool thread. I'm going into my 4th and last year of Mechanical Engineering Technology. Everyone thinks it's a 2 year tech major because it has technology in the name, but it is not a tech degree.

My bachelors was in Music Education.

I am going back to get a masters in CIS starting this fall.

My advice, don't go into education! :)

my room mate is in CIS and he really likes it. I don't understand much about it, but I understand that it is a great major to get into.

good luck :good:
