ColumbusJBR
I was toying with the thought of getting two matching sets of coaxial car speakers and making some cabinets for them out of either 1/2 or 3/4 mdf to hook up to a home theatre receiver. For example, two 6.5" speakers per cabinet, wired in series for 8 ohms. I'm not looking for great bang for the buck, just thought it might be a fun project. Speakers would just be going in my dirty basement powered off a lower end Sony receiver. Anyone ever tried anything like this? Any red flags with this idea? Thanks! Watch the bass
If you had them, but if not , i wouldn´t buy caraudiospeakers for homeaudio. Here is a nice 6.5 Focal for 9 $ each add some tweets and a crossover and you have something with fun. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/125538-focal-6m115-9-midbass/ Quote "in the abundance of water, the fool is thirsty" Bob Marley

HHR Ed
Sure you can do it. Car speakers and home speaker to differ, and some home speakers are of better quality in large environments with an enclosure attached, but car speakers can do well. basshead8569
I have some rockford fosgate power t1 6X9 in my garage. 2 pairs of them and 2 rockford fosgate t2 12" subs on there own amp and breaker. Now if you are doing a huge area then I would stick with home speakers. For my 2 1/2 car garage, it is enough. chiefofmytown
How do u plan on running it at 8ohm? That's the only problem I've had with wondering how I'd do it. The damned ohmage
rock4016
The OP said he would use 2 pair so he could wire 1 pair in series to achive 8ohm load per speaker. Typically you'd have 1 wire from the amp positive to one speaker positive. Then another wire between the 2 speakers with one end going to from the first speaker negative to the next speaker positive. The one more wire from the 2nd speaker negative back to the amp negative.

Most car audio speakers are designed to work on a infinite baffle setting so if you box them try to make the box on the large side to get the most from them. Other than that they will work fine wired in series as you say.
