But Car Audio seems to be unique in that a lot of people who have a slight interest in it, and hear 1 technical word, like to assert that they are an expert and that their knowledge has authority over yours. And then you have people that really know the technical side in depth and never say anything. That's why I have taken a stance nowadays to correct someone and educate them when they come up with whack info. Case in point. Last summer I was working a retail job. When I first started, a guy boasted about how loud his stereo was and that he cracked his back window. When he told me the story I looked into his eyes and said "No you didn't" Now, I was able to to this with confidence, instead of saying the usual, "Prove it with evidence" Because of the evidence I had already gathered. For one, it was a single 15" Power Bass entry level woofer on a 500w amp. In a sealed box in the trunk of a Monte Carlo. He claimed that he broke the window 2 days prior. I remember seeing the car 2 days prior, as well as the day after the claimed incident. On both days, the window was intact, with very dark tint, with a powerbass stick and K&N stickers in the same spots. So I explained my evidence after stating that he did not break the window. At first he said that the window place came out right away to replace it. So I asked him about the tint and stickers. He said that he did that in the middle of the night. I again said, "no you didn't". Then he ducked his head and told me that he was just kidding around, but almost broke it. The thing with that is, I was not trying to be a dick, but anytime anyone makes a claim about anything outlandish, I'd like to see some evidence to back it up. If a guy comes to me and says that he has a box of Ipods that he will give to me for 1$. Id like to see that box before I take out my money and not just take his word for it. If the weird guy at the gas station tells me that Jesus will save me if I repent, I'd like to see Jesus come and at least show me he is real first. If someone tells me that their neighbor's cousin's friend's brother did 194 dB and blew a windshield out 50ft, I'd like to see some pics of the install or recording of the metering process or at least a stats on a competition orgs website. But usually I get them telling me that he doesnt compete because he'd feel bad for winning all the trophies and not giving other people a shot.
