suckerfreebass
Guys, of course this cable is required to start the engine! That's it's purpose. Last I checked, all cars came with one from the factory. If yours was "bad" then replacing it or repairing it is the natural course of action if you'd like for your vehicle to start when you turn the key. What I'm asking, is why are people slapping another one on a vehicle as part of the "Upgrade" ? this is not true on my last car i just had a ground from battery to body an it started
alaskanzx5
i think its really vehicle dependent on this one. my alt grounds to the engine so upgrading the engine ground would only help the alt ground more. i did the alt to batt positive, batt ground to chassis and engine to chassis. when i can im gonna do a engine to batt ground to. Blackedout
Since when does snafu ask simple questions? Snafu makes our complicated questions look simple. So my point... I've always followed the "rule of thumb"... I thought it helped the alternator produce current. What are you getting at snafu? alaskanzx5
basically some cars dont need the engine ground upgraded. the only reason to upgrade the engine ground for a car audio reason would be to if the alt is grounded to the engine. although i have heard people say they did big 3 upgrades on some of their drag cars because it can give a very slight increase in performance. AMI CUSTOMS
Exactly it isn't necessary, My truck only has one but I have 8 1/0s coming directly off the alternator case(s), if you DON'T run a ground direct from alt case then you have to do this battery neg to block, that provides alt a better ground, but as we know, the best thing to do is go directly to the source, the alt case. Jessica
All i am going to say is i think you are saying ground from battery to the alternator bracket not the block.
